05 gsxr1000 shifting issues

I have a 05 gsxr1000 with a brand new clutch. the clutch was set up to be a racing clutch is what the guy said. so its shift up is 1st and shifting down for other gears. The bike has always done this but since the new clutch it does it worse. While shifting from 1st to 2nd its shifts into gear fine but its like a real hard shift. The mechanic says its something with the dog something something in first gear. Does anyone know anything about this and could help. Ive never had this issue before on any of my other bikes. Also how hard is it to switch it back shifting normal where 1st gear is 1 down and 2-6th is up? thanks you in advance.

also i live in houston tx. does anyone know of any realy good shops here in houston to work on my gsxr that isnt a dealership.

Welcome.

I don't have that particular year or model but on most recent GSXRs it is as easy as flipping the lever mounted on the engine to change back to standard shift from GP. It takes about 10 minutes including adjusting the lever height.

BTW, this has nothing to do with the clutch.

If it is shifting easily otherwise, I would suspect the linkage may be set too high for your foot or possibly hitting something.

Post an intro, with pics of your bike, in the "new riders and members" section when you get a chance.

If the clutch was incorrectly installed and/or the clutch was not properly adjusted, it will shift as though it has transmission issues.

once it get it in the shop ima have the go back to regular shifting. i suspect something with the clutch isnt right. but the mechanic says it was the dog something. i dont remember the last part. but he would have to get into the tranny i would think. hopefully someone has heard of this hear.

ill get pics and stuff up of the bike once i take a few. thanks

If it only happens from first to second, it's entirely possible that something in the transmission is damaged. However, it's easier to check the clutch adjustment and clutch installation than it is to inspect the transmission

My honest opinion is that you should dump that thing and get something cleaner. That looks like, and sounds like, it led a highly abused life. Who knows what's going to fail next.

Yikes....

Firstly....with out knowing the history, I have no idea how that one pic suggests highly abused.

Flip the shift over your self like John said, its easy, I have the same bike it takes maybe 5 minutes, 10 to set it up for your boot.

1->2 is ALWAYS the hardest shift and will always show it worse if your clutch isnt adjusted properly. Dont just throw money at a problem that you may not need.

Flip it to standard and adjust the clutch per the service manual, I can email you one if needed.

Lastly as I said in your other post...the K5 1000 is NO joke and honestly you sound like you might be in over your head. Sure Im jumping to conclusions just like the post about it being highly abused but there have been many examples of it that lead me too. Good luck.

yea i really dont see how a pic could show its been abused lol. but yea ima try a few things out myself and see if i can get it to shift correctly. first going to just flip it back to regular shift. the more im looking at the bike it just doesnt seem like the previous owner even cleaned the bike. im going to just go ahead and do all the regular maintence on the bike as well. also ive had a ton of sport bikes and bobbers. from r6, r1, hayabusa, etc. i know somewhat how to work on these bikes im just not a pro. i plan to keep this bike and just keep messing with it.

also if you could email me the service manual that would be great. thanks you. Jknguyen80@yahoo.com

thank you very much.

so today i switch it back to normal shifting instead of gp shifting. the shifter isnt hittin the rod now. im just waiting right now for my bobber to get out of the shop and put this bike in the shop to get the 1st gear fixed and general maitnence done to it. at that time ima go thru the bike and see if anything else needs fixing or replacing.
