How to change spark plugs K6 1000

How to change spark plugs on a 2006 GSXR 1000: Allow about 45 minutes to change plugs.

TOOLS NEEDED: 4mm/5mm allen sockets, 10mm socket,#2 Phillips screwdriver, 3" extension, 5/8" swivel spark plug socket, and (4) NGK CR9E spark plugs, which are OEM. I use NGK CR9EK's

Seat removal- 4mm allen socket to remove (2) frame/tank covers

Tank removal- 4mm allen socket to remove (2) front bolts
5mm allen socket to loosen long rear
bolt/ (remove bolt later)

Have someone tilt tank in the up position, then disconnect fuel line, fuel pump wire, clear/black vent hoses on rear of gas tank

NOW remove rear bolt from the back of tank and place the tank in a safe area. I chose a lawn tractor tire to protect the fuel pump.

Airbox removal- loosen (12) screws on top cover/ pull off cover
loosen (4) screws on the intake clamps
remove 1 10mm bolt on the frame
remove (2) airbox vent hoses on the Right side
remove GREEN sensor plug on the Right side
remove BLUE plug/sm black vent hose off rear.

PULL lower airbox by lifting up/back. You need to clear the front (2) intake vents by frame rails.

Disconnect coil wire and remove the coil to expose plug. I always move from LEFT to RIGHT. Using a swivel socket, remove plug and then REVERSE the order. You may want to check gap.

I took PICs of each/every step and I'll try to load them up.

I personally don't go to the extreme of removing the tank, but I guess you could.

Ummm yeah, you also don't need to remove the 12 screws on the air filter box, that just splits it in 2 so you can get at the filter. I just swapped out the plugs on my K6 1000 yesterday and once you disingage the air intake clamps, connectors and hoses the filter box slides back and out.

CORRECT on splitting the airbox, BUT I didn't note that I usually change the airfilter when I do a plug change.

How often do you change the plugs?
I guess it would be a good time to replace/clean the filter

Good how to, but I also dont take my tank off. I do split the air box tho so I can inspect my filter and clean if needed...might as well.

Glad to help. I change plugs every other season as I only make about 1K miles a season now

NO doubt!! My 1st season on a sportbike, I put on over 8,000 miles and this is WI. Our riding season is less than 6 month. Once a wife, house, and kids came along, my riding time was/has been tragically limited
