how it all began ...
i have done everything myself besides the cct, which i wish i waited on bc im doing my cam chain in my garage now
ive learned sooooo much about my bike in the last month its unreal. im having a sh!t ton of fun with this one and am really putting everything into her.
for those who dont know, i sold my k3 busa to get my dream bike ... aka k5/k6 gsxr 1k
i sold my busa to have some coin left over start a turbo bike project. ill be doing the build and boost this winter, just need the $5000 turbo kit to get started :0001136745-facepalm
oh its totally chill time ... i get my garage all set up to work ... music bumpin, fans on, some weird diesel fuel that seems to have gone sour  its just my time to get away i guess, i get lost in every bolt i remove like its my personal zen ... even tho every bolt was fawking stripped
thx dude ... i will update this thread with everything i do ... im trying my ass off to get this fawking head gasket ordered, im just being waaaay too pickey, as this is a zero shortcut bike for me
im still trying to get my swingarm and stuff on before the end of the month so i can take a shot at botm ... blkout's ish is way nicer than mine atm so maybe ill hold out
head gasket, 530 drive chain, -1/+2 blk vortex sprockets, pielli diablos with a 200/50 rear, gsxr engraved handgrips, blk shorty levers and some other ish ... so there will be progress reports in here soon
pics would still be the same as my motor is still pulled
as soon as this head gasket comes in ima install my new cam chain then its straight to the shop to let them hassle with the rest of it lol
thats the dude i met on here back in the day
i paid 7 hundo for parts and labor: swingarm install, lower front and back, both fork seals, 530 chain, vortex sprockets, pirelli diablo rubber with a 200/50 rear with mount and balance, black steel braided brake line and something else i forgot
cool part is i really didnt wanna leave my bike on a jack and a bike stand while i pulled the wheels off ... theyre gonna call me when they pull my wheels so i can go pick them up and drop them off with my powdercoat guy ... gonna do my lip in the same red
Got these in today ... I think it's much better ... I'll give the red ones to a member that may need/want them ... pm me
hand grips should be in tmrw :0001136745-wait:
got same levers on mine.. does that make us "lever buddies"??!!?:Laughing:
I did have better levers on the Monster though - pretty much same as those we seemingly both have BUT with the added bonuses that they would flip up (if you take a spill it won't snap) AND length of lever itself was adjustable "on the fly" so that could fir winter and summer riding (thicker vs thinner gloves).. might see of they make them for GSXR
VERY NICE PROJECT!!! very envious your engine looks sooo much cleaner than mine and loom all nice and tidy..
Well done man! looking forward to seeing pics of finished article!
You could probably get someone to fab up the piping for the turbo kit and make it cheaper for you. Thats if you know someone who can weld and bend pipe. I want to turbo my k6 1000 and am going to go that route when the time comes.
My turbo kit is only costing me $2,500....... With a tune. But I'm going with a fully built motor, tranny, fuel system and ignition setup, so my build is roughly $8k.
Turbo kit includes, Garrett turbo, custom manifold, custom intake box with secondary injector holes, and all piping.
The rest of my build cost is high because i don't have the tools or skills to do the motor build. Plus I'm doing a Motech Guage, ams 1000 controller and tuned with 3 maps.
Are u getting it custom made or u ordering it piece by piece?
I haven't like dead set planned on one but found a whole kit on turbokits.com that comes with everything everything that I could bolt on myself in my garage and a pre tuned pc ... It comes with clutches too so that's the only thing I'd really need to have a shop do first
I thought about piecing it together but seemed like a pia and the wonder of if it's gonna fit right and hold up to as much kinda made me just want a kit that's set up for me already
I'm doing motor first too which is y I'm not really rushing to boost right now
What are u doing motor wise? I'm soooooo torn man cause i wanted to bore to 75 or 76 with a wiseco kit and port n polish my head with some good valves springs and retainers with the obvious cams and shafts buuuuut I also wanna be able to ride my bike on the street so idk lol
I just know im taking my time and taking no short cuts
I've always been told to pick one or the other. Big bore or turbo. Cylinder walls won't hold both. So I decided turbo.
Mine is all being hand built by Chris Cutsinger. He races a pro mod turbo bike. YouTube his name. Anyways, he is a little on the pricey side, but we've been friends forever, so I'm getting a deal. He only uses top grade stuff too.
I've heard different things about pre-ordered "KITS"....... Something always seems to be wrong. Either a cheap turbo, cheap clamps, wrong exhaust flange. ....... Always something. That's why I opted for a custom built one. I want it done right from the beginning.
I'm porting the head, and putting in valve springs, but that's it for now. The head and block are getting decked, diamond pistons, Corrilo rods, and ARP hardware. Probably going to get a billet basket case because I'm doing a "dyno day" tune with 400whp.
ya i hear ya and damn dude sounds like ur having a nice build going on too ... 74 or 75 bore should still be able to take some ok psi, unless its sleeved.
but ya thinking about it, ur def right ... bore idea gone, i wanna push out a whole lotta lbs cause i wanted the same build goal of 400 ... i honestly wasnt even looking into bore kits until i started trying to order a head gasket and i got side tracked
I just want a reliable turbo bike. I know that sounds odd, but this guy has built a lot of bikes that have been pumping out 400whp for over 4 years, so I'm willing to pay for the long run.
Being side tracked has taught me a lot of shit. Every new idea makes me research about it. So even if I don't end up doing it, I at least learned something. I love getting side tracked. .....lol
ya i know right  ive been weighing every option i have here ... i want the same thing as u, a reliable turbo bike for the street/strip
it can/will be done
just got these in :bounce
ill put my other ones in the pay it fwd thread ... bry already called dips on my red levers ... ill prob get those ready to ship this weekend broski
Refresh my memory.. What are you currently doing to the motor? New cam chain and what else?
