Last Week AM #77 CCS/ASRA 2016

Well I figured I should start a race thread based on this year's results running in the SE CCS/ASRA events.

recap up to this point 5/15

Season Opener Daytona; *double points

Wow that track is nothing short of awesome!
I opened up going all out in 5 events.
SS Unlimited, SS Heavyweight, SB Unlimited, SB Heavyweight, SuperTwins.

Did decent. Lots to learn there. SS unlimited placed 9th. SS Heavyweight placed 8th. SB Unlimited placed 11th. SB Heavyweight placed 6th. SuperTwins placed 1st.

Second round was at CMP. *Twin Sprints

Wow was it windy! 5mph gust blew up sand from the traps that was a thick as walls. Decided running in the unlimited was too much for the budget as well as I was out matched by built bikes based on my skillset

Raced in 3 events

SB Heavyweight placed 5th Sat then 6th Sun
SS Heavyweight placed 2nd but DQ'D for not teching. Finished 3rd second event.
Supertwins placed 1st both events.

Little Talledega Grand Prix Raceway for the 3rd round

First time here. Cool little track that's super fun and fast! Got my times down to low 15/4's with little to no practice. That's 4 seconds off Greg Melka's expert times on a built bike so not too bad.

Raced 3 events

SB Heavyweight placed 1st both days with 1st overall both days.
SS Heavyweight placed 1st both days
SuperTwins placed 1st both days

The SB Heavyweight was by far one of my favorite races this year. Me and another racer were neck n neck the whole race. I scoped out his weaknesses and patiently hung on his rear tire. I late braked him going it the last 2 turns to grab the white flag but overshot T1!!! Gahhh so I hurried up to catch him and closed in tight to pull the same maneuver. He was ready and tighten up. I dove in deep and on the rumbles to take the inside pass...it was head tucked and on to the checked for the win.

VIR June 10-12 4th SE round.

Hard weekend, plagued with clutch issues with the Gsxr750. Friday practice with TPM no issues. I laid down some consistent mid 39's in mixed traffic with the 750 according to my new Starlane GPS 3. ( That thing is nice! ) Got up Sat morning putted around in practice on the Ducati. Saturday was SS Heavyweight race. Gridded up, launched, the bike lunged with a clunk at the end....errrr ok that's a new sound... first lap good keeping with pack, then I hit the straight for the first time.... no 6th gear. What? Yea so I thought, no not the QS again. So I clutched it over, and over. I look down while in the kink... wait I'm in 6th but no power... I tried 6th the next lap, same result. So I managed with 5th gear, and limped home a last place finish of 8th :/ **Sidenote; I wouldn't of been much of a match for the riders who finished in the top 4 even if my bike was fine....those guys were movin! Sunday, Did some work/inspection on the 750. Seems no more than normal metallic residue on the oil magnetic plug. Checked the QS..not that. So I said screw it. Threw on a smaller rear sprocket for more top end with 5th gear for the Superbike Heavyweight race, and just try to do the best I could. Managed a pass lol, finished 6th. Listening to the announcer ' interviews with other racers seems clutch issues were a common occurrence on Sunday. I don't know, it was Freakn' hot as hell this weekend. My last race of the day, SuperTwins combined. Not much comp in my class. I took 1st, and 5th overall so I did manage to get some wood.

So long VIR... until September.

Well decided to head out of the Southeast to the Mid-Atlantic and race at Summit Point Main.

I come only with the Ducati. 750 is out as of now with a clutch issue that I'm fixing now.

So I show up Friday afternoon for Saturday, and Sunday CCS twin sprint round for the Mid-Atlantic. I have never been here, and all I'll get of track time before I race is the 2 rounds of 15 min practice the morning of my race lol.

Well it was going.... trying to learn the track, but I kept hitting a false neutral going into T10. After this happening for a few laps it finally caught 3. So I was ok next lap I'm going deep. Not a good idea. I go in deep and bingo a false neutral. I tried to save it but tucked the front...

I'm good, bikes good. I go out for practice 2. I settle for 4th gear for the race, but it kills my exit. It ultimately killed my race.

RACE 1 Saturday, placed 3rd

Race 2 Sunday, I come out with a different mindset.

We grid and I follow Zane (Yesterday winner) for a lap. I then pass him in T2 for the lead, and held that till T10 before the last lap. I decided to tuck in tight for that lap and take him on the exit of T10. Well the plan worked until I shifted early on my exit out... So I lost by a half a bike length lol! I'll take a second place.

So a 3rd and 2nd place for the weekend. Not bad for no experience there. I had a great time racing against Zane and Ted.

Here's Sunday's race from Zane's perspective. I'm the guy on the red bike that passes him on lap 2 outside turn 2.

It is a fun track. I definitely want to go back because I still have a lot I know I can clean up as far as time there. On what little time on the track I had there, I kept getting faster each lap I took. So it itches me when I know where I can do better lol.

The track itself was in decent shape. There were some really fun features there like the blind crest out of 3 into 4 (my favorite part) the banked turn at 5. The only downside was the obtrusion about a foot out at the entrance of T3. It made turn 3 a bit of an X game if you hit it lol. All in all it is technical like VIR N. T1 and T2 are almost identical to VIR N

The track staff was nice. They were prompt, and very thorough with track clean up. It would of been nice if they did daily trash service like most other tracks.

I'd say a huge bonus for us the way we came were the Vistas en route to the track! Wow!

Last time I was there was the end of March. During that track day they mentioned they were looking to replace all the curbing because the winter had been pretty rough on them, not sure if that was done yet or not. I've always found the track to be really fun. Turn 5 was always one of my favorite spots to pass. people seem to over brake but it was a great corner to get right because it carries into bowl and esses really well.

10 was always a tough corner for me just because its a fast trust corner. After the last trip to Thunderbolt I think I gained a lot of the trust I needed for that corner. The last corner and thunderbolt is very similar.

Glad you enjoyed it and congrats on the good results.

Decided to go up to NJMP, and run in the SuperTwins race. Never been there so I did a trackday with ACE on Friday. It was great to meet NewYork on here. Like he said it was hot! Took the first session to learn the lefts and rights. The rest I broke down the track in sections. Even after all that there was PLENTY of room to improve.

SATURDAY. Morning practice sessions went great! .... then hours went by because my race was 3rd to last lol. The wait sucks.

Race; pretty simple. Great launch. Hung with Expert racer Harry Wilson for 2 laps and then I settled into my overall strategy.... get the points! I look back in T10, and second place was heading toward T6. I was way out in front so I just backed off kept consistent, safe, and finished 1st.

Definitely will go back. The track facility in a whole was a beauty. Absolutely had a great time there.

Had all around great time at Summit Point Raceway with CCS/ASRA. Missed having my Wife Stephanie Brett-Williams, and my son with me this time...not the same without them there "spidah check" ha!
Race recap. Picked up a first place in Supertwins, but better yet I averaged a 2 seconds faster race laptimes than my personal best laptime here in both the Superbike, and SuperTwins class from last month's debut at Summit. Really happy with that. Thanks to Mark Dickerson, and Molly Calkins for helping me out with my back to back races big help there! As well to Harry Wilson, and his wife for the hospitality. Thanks to fellow Twin racer Ted Denbow for keep pushing me, and Kevin L. Malone for the NOS coffee that made it all happen Lol! Off to RRR.

Results from RRR, and NJMP

Haven't updated here in a while.

Went RRR haven't been there since 2012 wow track was way different to me now versus then lol.

Race recap.

began to draw closer on my points in the Supersport Heavyweight class. Picked up a 1st in Supertwins. Not a lot drama just clean racing.

Headed up to New Jersey Motorsports Park for the twin sprints season finale for the the Atlantic region. Only had chips for the Supertwins so I only raced that class Sat, and Sun. Came into there 3 points behind the leader so I had to beat him both races. Sat I didn't run my best but managed to stay in front of the points leader and place 2nd. Sunday I was on it, got a great launch and stuck in behind the experts closing in on our expert amatuer grid gap. Going into T1 second lap hit a false neutral allowing the points leader by I went deep. Managed to stay on track and close in for the stuff in T7. I was gone after that gapping him by 4-6 seconds a lap. Finished 2nd. The rider who won both races was extremely fast. Found out he's a former 2014 expert multiple class champion who allowed his license to expire so he was demoted to amatuer. He ended up passing all the experts as well. Lol! I finished up 7 points up for the win.

Season Finale SE and MA!!

The CCS/ASRA season has come to an end at the Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast finale at VIR. I had a blast doing my first full year with them. Started off Southeast region only, but well... lol I ended up heading north due to the Southeast's having 2 months off on their schedule. It was worth it. I learned a lot on some tracks I've never been on, and met some irreplaceable friends along the way. From Daytona to New Jersey, and all the tracks in between it was a year to remember. Definitely doing it again next year!

Results;

20 podiums. (34 total races)
14 1st place finishes
3 2nd place finishes
3 3rd place finishes

5 points championship over 3 regions

-Atlantic SuperTwins Championship
-Mid-Atlantic SuperTwins Championship
-Southeast Superbike Heavyweight Championship
-Southeast Supersport Heavyweight Championship
-Southeast SuperTwins Championship

Currently ranked 12th overall amatuer in the Southeast.

What better way of finishing up my first full Amateur year with CCS/ASRA than with a National Championship at Daytona's Race of Champions.

Unbelievable year

Then only to be humbled once more by being promoted into the Expert class.

New adventures for 2017! Gonna be interesting! ! Haha!

Thanks! You'll love it! Though racing should come with a warning label **Beware, Extremely Addictive** 👍

I *really* want to get back to it. Trackdays are fun, but racing is funner.
