MO Survey: What Kind Of Helmet Do You Wear?

Quote:
A DOT approved helmet is the most important piece of safety gear that a motorcyclist can wear. Still, the range of legal helmets covers (or doesn’t cover) a wide range of protection. Since we’re street-wise enough to know that not everyone shares our belief in the importance of protective headgear.

Lend us your voice, oh MOrons! What is your preferred style of helmet?

+1 on JP's post.

Even on my wifes little scooter I wear a full face.

All it takes is 1 time to crush your jaw and look like frakenfuk the rest of your life.

I wear full face, even when I demo rode a few baggers with full batwings / front windscreens etc.

Cool

Since I started riding 2 wheelers in 1990, I've never worn anything OTHER than a full face helmet. I have a 25" skull (can't buy hats at retail shops, only online), so I barely fit a 3XL in some makes. My first helmets were by Bell, then AFX & HJC. I've always hated the wind noise and poor round fit of those cheap helmets. I treated myself to a Icon Airframe Pro Halo Helmet Green 3XL. My skull BARELY scrapes into the shell, but once inside, fits perfectly. I wear a balaclava to keep my ears from being literally TWISTED as I don the helmet.

Take a picture of the top of your head with your camera phone... and see if you need round, elongated oval, or long oval.

What Kind Of Helmet Do You Wear?

Hey, Lagarto. I like the color of your helmet! By the way, I always prefer a helmet that could protect me from accident and getting injured. Well, I like one of the best helmets here : http://www.motorcyclistlife.com/best-womens-motorcycle-helmets. You may check them out too. My choice for a new helmet is a Scorpion Tiffany EXO-1100. I haven't purchase it but I'll try to have it soon.

Is there any kind other than full face?

Sure the hog riders seem to love the piss pot open face style, but when they face plant, well, they'll still be as ugly af.

"They'll still be as ugly ..." 😅

The decision to wear an open helmet came from a long line of previous bad decisions. To carry this further I would say if you took away the helmet law most of them wouldn't even wear that.

HJC/AGV are the 2 I like for my dome.

Ohio has no helmet law and you pretty much never see ANYONE on a Harley or Harley wanna be wearing one. Definitely our fair share of guys on sport bikes with tank tops, shorts and backwards ball cap.

For the most part the sport bike community wears their helmets through...

I get asked constantly "aren't you hot in that?"
I finally just started ignoring the whole question.

I rather sweat than bleed is what I tell them when I'm asked.

Funny, if you think about it. They ask "why" as if they can't comprehend the value one has over their own life, and the impact your life has on others...they just chug a beer out of a brown bag, and ride off.

Thanks for the kudos! And for your choice: that is indeed a fantastic looking helmet, they did a great job on the graphics. Do be aware that if you ride above 60mph, wind noise on less expensive helmets can be deafening - so I recommend ear plugs. Once you get into the racing price range (above $300, certainly), a lot of the wind drag is eliminated, along with the noise.

For whatever you decide to buy, read reviews on more than one website to make sure it'll do what you need, and also fit your budget.

Welcome to the forum, and happy riding!

Same here in Colorado: no helmet law means MOST of the cruisers wear no gear at all. Just this past Sunday, I captured a shot of this squid who couldn't even bother to keep his hands on his stupidly high grips

and this one who thinks being a Broncos fan is enough to keep him out of trouble at 85mph
