Best year for a GSXR 600

Hey there, New to the fourms and I wanted to ask a question or two

Ive been riding for about 3 years now, Started on a little 50cc scooter, moved up to a 125, and then finally to a 250 ninja that Ive been riding for the past 2 years. Im thinking its time to upgrade. The options in my area for a used gsxr 600 with about a 6k budget to spend on go from 2000 to 2009, even the odd 750 here and there within that price range, so I was just wondering, what year would you say is best for a used bike? Mind you it will be used daily for a short commute to work and a weekend fun bike

What country are you in? Typically the newer models have improvements over previous years so the newer the better in that respect. I prefer the 2008 to 2010 model myself based on looks alone.

My least favorite in that wide range of dates is the 04-05 600 and thats based on looks alone, and they dont look bad at all its just my least favorite. I have a soft spot for the look of the 00-03 and 08+ is sexy. The only ones that would have an "issue" to look out for is the 06-08(and a few hear and there above) have issues with the R/Rs going bad but there has been recalls for most to help with that and even if not the replacement aftermarket parts are cheap and easy. There is also a brake MC recall for any of them after 04 I believe.

ALL GREAT bikes. Just take your time and pick the best one for you!

Also GREAT job progressing through your bikes. Good to see some one do it right. Would love to hear how you think it helped you as a rider.

06/07 are the best looking GSXR's ever made IMO.

There's one good thing about getting older.

Most of them have their own little issues. k4 and k5 have STVA issues that require some soldering when it happens. It depends on what look you prefer. go sit on a few and see which fits you nicely.

I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it. -Mitch Hedberg-

Thanks for all the feedback guys, Seems I dont have to be too picky about the year so I can save a few bucks on an older one. Also In response to SRAD's question, I think it helped me the most by building up my confidence, Knowing how to ride on two wheels on the road helps a ton before you throw a clutch into the equation XD

Whatever you choose, take a good luck at the rear sprocket and chain. If the sprocket has shark fin teeth or the chain is rusty or dirty the owner hasn't bothered maintaining it so I would probably either walk away or hammer down the price.

If you end up with a k6/7 the issues many of us face with the charging system are easy to solve as long as you don't use cheap parts or ignore warning signs of impending doom (blowing head light bulbs) or battery running flat etc

My pick is find a smokin deal on a 11-12.

Current gen and a great bike.

In my area these are on craigslist for $6500 which after negotiations $6000 would be achievable.

I got my mint L2 600 for $7000 OTD. NADA value was $8900, so I feel like I got a good deal. It had 3,400 miles on it when I got it in March. Don't forget that you have to pay taxes on the full purchase price of the bike when you get tabs the first time, unless you buy it from a dealer. So you might get it from a private seller for $6,000 but it's going to cost you another $300 come tab time. I don't think people usually figure that in when considering price.

I personally think that sportbikes from the last 15 years all look pretty outstanding. Some look better than others, but I don't think any of them are ugly. One thing they all have in common is being balls-out fast, and in that regard, you can't really go wrong. I'd be more concerned about mileage and mechanical issues than aesthetics. You can always buy new plastics or paint the ones you have if you don't like the color. As for which years look the best...I generally prefer the look of K9-K10 but I've grown to love my own.

I would jump on that so hard if they were in my area, but sadly anything pushing up to 2010 and past will usually pop up for around close to 10k which is a bit over budget for me, I will keep an eye out for deals though, Theres also the option for a 750 which seems to be a bit more prolific in these parts

I'm with redmist on this one ... I think the k6/k7 is the all time best 600/750 that suzuki made. I actually have a k7 6er in my garage that I'm working on

Buuuuuuut k5/k6 1k is the fastest/sexiest bike ever made

Got a mind that a map wouldn't find

I have an 07 750 and 08 750,
I like both bikes but prefer my 08 . 08 tank and front fairing slightly narrow and front light looks diffrent , the 08 has the throttle mode switch the 07 don't. they both have same riding feel . pretty sure the 600 are the same.

On my 08 I had the Recitfier recall done twice
and did the R1 mc and caliper swap on 08
and front caliper on 07 I swaped out with 09 GSXR 1000

My buddy has a K8 600 and he swore my 11 750 was lighter. Dunno , I like newer things . With exception of the 1k Gixxer , newer has always been better .

I live in hawaii, so like everything that comes here has at least an extra 1k attached onto it (as far as i know anyways) But yeah, so far some standout deals are an 06 750 for 5.5k (23mi) an 06 600 for 4.5k(15kmi), and a k5 1000 with 15k mi for 4.8k, Still gonna be a bit before I have the cash in hand, so this may all just be irrelevant XD

Do yourself a favor and skip the 600 go straight to the 750!! It's the exact bike with 20 more hp and if you're riding it in the street that's what you want.

I'm partial to the 06-07 as its hot as hell and parts are very abundant for it by now. Good luck man!

I mirror the same sentiment here, I suggest you buy the newest model you can afford.

2004 Suzuki GSXR600 - Sold
2008 Yamaha R6 - Sold
2007 Suzuki GSXR750 - Current trackbike

2010-2011. That's based on the forums. You just don't see a lot of problem threads for these years. 2006 introduced the narrower rider position and it's huge. I love my 05, but the 06 and newer are much more rider friendly. With a 6k budget, you should be able to find something as new as a 2015. If I were in your situation I'd search 2010-2015.
