Yoshimura Race ECU on Street Ridden GSX-R

I'm not racing or track riding, at least not yet, but I came across someone selling a Yoshimura Race ECU that supposedly has two maps on it. I was considering plugging it into my street bike to see if it works and potentially using it on the street. I have a friend who has a ducati and he is running a race ECU on the street and hasn't had any issues. Two questions:

1. If the ECU does actually have two maps and its going into a street bike, how would I go about switching between maps? I assume a computer is required to control this or at least a switch of some kind, can I do this with an aftermarket solution?

2. Would a stock engine survive a race ECU, I assume that a race engine is built to some degree to be able to handle the extra power it is making?

What do you guys think, worth it or no?

I believe you have to download the EMS software to make adjustments.
Timing adjust, maps, side stand and clutch sensors, and some other stuff.
A TRE is a timing retard eliminator that plugs in, the Yosh ECM has timing adjustment so no need for a TRE.
Stock bikes retard the timing in first gear, it helps the bike to run cooler, but you lose a little bit of punch taking off.

I used a TRE a while back and didn't notice much of anything. But the cooling fan did seem to come on quicker.

Is that software open source, or something more difficult to find?

I remember installing a TRE on my 05 SV650S, I also didn't notice much of a change. Did not know GSXR's needed those.

So basically, if I can get this for very very cheap, it might be worth it if I can find software to control it?

Well, I spoke with Yoshimura today and the general overview of the conversation was that all the Yoshimura race ECU/ECM for the 04/05 GSXR 600/750 will do is increase the RPM by 500 or so. And even then you would want to have a motor that has been modified to handle this increase as slight as it is. There is another version they offered that would allow for some engine control features similar to that of a Power Commander.

In short, I'm going to keep my factory ECU. My friend who got a race ECU for his Ducati did so because it opened the ability to tune the bike as a whole as well as increase power. I would not get that benefit with the Yoshimura ECU.
