Front sprocket change question

How exactly do you remove the front sprocket? I took the cover off and saw that wierd nut and gave up because it was getting dark.

Does the allen bolt need to come out? Once that is out does the square part come off so you can access the big nut?

This is on a k7 600. Trying to swap the stock sprocket back on. Shop changed it last time.

if you take out the Allen key you can get to the main bolt. its just like a safety lock thing.

just get a long allen key or a small pipe on the end of a short one so you can get some leverage, they are sometimes a bitch to get out.

Good luck!

Your going to have to take out the speed sensor rotor (the allen nut your referring to), then when taking the bolt holding the sprocket on, you will need to run a bar through your rear wheel against the swing arm to keep the wheel from spinning. You may need a breaker bar. The Sprocket nut is on VERY well. Make sure you retorque everything back to specs. Why are you going stock?

if you use an impact wrench to take the sprocket bolt out you wont need to put a bar inbetween the swingarm and rim.

+1 do it that way and get a long braker bar to help you out cuz it is on there very tight!! dont waist your time with an impact wrench!

I have a Snap on electric impact. 800ft lbs of torque anyone?

I am trying to sell the bike so I want the speedo to be correct again. Or if I keep it I am tired of the speedo being so messed up. Plus I want to keep the mileage down some. Its already to 7600 since last March.

good luck with getting the sprocket off. I also have a question
i thought i would post here. I need opinions from people who own
a 1000. i own a 2006 1000 i'm wanting to change the gearing
does the -1 on the front change the gearing that much. is what
i'm looking for is lower quarter mile time but also i want to
clutch third easier for wheelies or is the -1+2 a better option just wanting opinions before i spend the money.

A speedo healer would have solved all your problems.

How much does it throw your speedo out by? Are you only -1 on the front or +2 on the rear too? I am thinking about doing this myself but probably won't be able to get a speedo healer til next month at least :(
