Best Year for the GSXR 1000

Which do you guys like, as far as performance, handling, and overall package? I'm looking for an 05-06, but I see a lot of 03-04s in my price range. What's the MAIN differences between the years? Anyone with seat experience on these bikes would help me out.

The major redesign occurred at 05 for the 1000. The 03-04's have the same body style as the 04-05 600/750. The main difference is the 03-04's are a a bit bigger, and have a more stable feeling than the newer bikes. The newer bikes have a lighter, more compact feeling and a quicker turn-in. They are also a bit faster, but the difference is academic on a 1000 anyway.

I feel cramped on the newer bikes myself. If you're a big guy, you might want to consider an 03-04 model.

Thanx for the reply. I thought the 03-04s looked a little bigger. I just sold my 04 750, which fit me pretty well. I'm not huge, but I'm no twig...I'm 5' 11" 190lbs. I rode a couple of my friends 06 07 750s, they feel lighter b/c you sit lower in the bike. I'm leaning toward the 05 06 1000s, i LOVE the 06 gray/black...but I just got $6000 for my 750 and I won't be getting an 05/06 1000 for that money...I could def swing a nice 03/04 1000 for that much. But I'm in no rush to get a bike...I'll prolly just wait and jump on a sweet deal in the middle of the winter. (That'll give me some time to make $1000 or so to get the newer 1000) I want to stay away from the 07/08...too much money right now, and Suzuki kind screwed them up too much for my taste. Are there any issues with any of the generations that I should be concerned about, or check for? And what about the 01/02 1000s, a lot of guys like those years?

SWEET DEAL!! Around here, NJ, they're going for $7500 - $8000...I wanna pick one up for $6500-$7000...I found a sweet one a few months back, but it got sold before I was able to get the money...sooooo the search continues. Also, I loved my 750, does anyone think that I will be anything but impressed with the 1000?? I have some doubts, but I think the first time i slam it into a corner and then crack the throttle on the straight, all will be forgotten. I hope I'm right

I have an 06 1000. This is/was my first choice. I wasn't able to buy a new bike until 07, I searched and found my bike. I didn't want an 07. I would say that 05-08 are much better bikes, and better looking. Performance is clearly better.
If looks are important, buy the year that you think looks best.
But the "best" GSXR year was 1985. The first 750, it set the world on it's head. If you raced, you won. If you cruised, you scored. If you posed, you were envied. That big leap forward hasn't happened again,...yet. But when it does, that will be my next gixxer!

07 GSXR 600- 10.36 @ 137 SOLD
08 GSXR 1000 Black and gold 10.04 @ 144, 1.71 60ft

my 06 did 100mph in first gear. sprocket changes cured that. but yes...100 mph in first gear banged to the rev limiter it will do it with oem sprockets.

I believe I hit 100 in 1st on my K6, was some time ago. If I didn't, it was just a couple mph under; I don't remember exactly, wasn't doing it for that purpose.

ok...Well the reason i ask is because I rode an 04 R1 and you could that that sucker up to 110 in first...It's cool to brag about, but the mid range on my 750 felt like it would own that yamahahahaha. I was just wondering if the Gixxer 1000 was geared the same way. I don't want to pick up a nice liter bike, and it feel less punchy then my 750...ya know? The R1 is beautiful, the one i rode was a liquid silver 04 R1, but i would never own one for the lack of mid range...wat fun is having a big bad liter bike if you can't beat a 750 from 0-60? But the videos I've seen of the k6 1000 seem pretty fast, seems like it would own my old 04 750.

No other model is better than the 03/04 1000 hands down. Its motor is virtually limitless as far as performance compared to any other model and its the only model that trully goes 186mph and SUZUKi states that.

i have to disagree on that one, any gsxr 1000 will do 186 mph with out a rev limiter, and for stock vs stock look at the drag times posted on sportrider.com and you'll see it gets progressively faster up tp k7-k8. in all out acceleration my k7 beats the k6's,k4's and k9 kawi's that are around this area the only bike that seems to give problems is an k8 gixx 1000. granted not all are stock but I think they've gotten faster over the years.
and all mods come down to $$$$$$

i have had a 03 gsxr 1000 and a 05 and right now i have a 06 (silver and blk) and a 07gsxr(org and blk) 1000 and i like the way my 03 felt when riding around town...but it dont compare notting to the way my 07 handles around twists and the acleraction it has on the straghit aways. if u cant buy a 07 buy a 05-06 1000 and u will be happy they handle good aswell and make pretty good hp.

Are you stationed at Ft. Jackson? You know soldiers aren't supposed to go over the speed limit. Just joking, I am in too and I work in Columbia. I have a K7 1000 with a TRE on it that begs to differ about that 186mph statement.

IF YOUCAN'T RIDE IT FAST YOURBIKE AIN'T FAST.

K7 Black and Orange
and K8 all black...

I happen to like the hydraulic clucth...

The k7 and k8 had some of the best colors, and they were pretty fast, and they came out with new features.

I don't remember where but search the forums. Somewhere someone posted the numbers of the liter bikes and the 06 k1 was the lightest and fastest even faster than the news ones I believe even up to the 08's. Now I do not know about the 09's. Search the forums.

well the BMW is 14800
ducati more than that
k9 gxxr 12,300

u pay for what u get though yeah all bikes no matter what brand are getting more expensive every year ...i think a ducati is just a name to much money i mean great bike but not for as much as they cost
like a harley cost as much as a car for what really though the name
but yeah for the extra 1000 dollars my personal opinion is the k9 is worth it it is the fastest bike and best handling 1000 i have ridin
i got mine for 12000
