So I took my bike to get dynode tuned (07 750)
the mechanic is basically an ex racer and track day guru.
we got in to talking about my bike and my wish list.
he recommended to change out my tires that the CT2 are more of a road tire and not a good track tire, he also mentioned to go with a Q3 or Bridgestone tire. said I have higher chances of going down due to heat cycles it will destroy the rubber and eventually cause me to go down. I currently am moving up to B group riding and plan to invest in tire warmers in the near future. what do you think are these tires made to handle the track?? its now in the back of my head

The Pilot Power 2CT is perfectly fine for the track. I usually use the regular Pilot Power in intermediate, and the tires aren't holding me back at all. If your tires have a lot of miles on them you should change them, obviously, but if they're pretty fresh they are fine. Really, the Q3 may be a smidge more capable than the PP2CT, but it is a newer design/model. It is still a street tire, too, so if your riding is too fast for the Michelin it will also be too fast for the Dunlop.

Heat cycles really aren't a thing anymore for street tires. For full on race tires, yes, they are still sort of a thing, but not nearly as bad as they were 10 or 20 years ago. What he may have meant was that the PP2CT's softer rubber on the extreme edge of the tire could possibly overheat and get "greasy" if you're hammering on the gas on corner exits while leaned all the way over.

As for warmers, you really won't need them until you're using track-specific tires. They're nice to have even with street tires, but not a necessity.

Thank for your input much appreciated.. ya these tires are new only used once on track. I haven't dragged the knee so I don't think I'm that aggressive to over kill the tires. he told me he would lend me a pair of tire warmers so I wouldn't mind using just to see. from what your saying, it now makes sense what he was telling me. thanks

The Pirelli SuperCorsas SP V2s are a great tire. To me they are the best of the street/track tires before you move to a full race DOT. Riders Discount has great promotions on here on them for us as well.

I'm pushing mid-front pack I and burning through these in one track day. Great tires that don't just let up. Perfect for Novice>Intermediate trackday rider.

It is hard to find warmers that will only heat to a temperature street tires are compliant for. Track specific tires (Evo's, Cups, Slicks) are a large percentage warmer at operating temperatures than street tires could ever dream of.

I've ridden Pilot Power 3, Q3's and the SP's that LW mentioned on the track and have preferred the PP3's and SP's with the SP being my favorite so far. The Q3's stick, but I felt like there was nothing under me, very little feedback. The PP3's were a good amount and the SP's took some time to adjust because they gave so much I thought something was wrong. Now I love them. As Chango mentioned, at your pace any of the tires will work just fine and none require the use of warmers, but it's nice to be able to better maintain temperature and pressures between sessions. Gives more confidence on the first lap out. Just go out and have fun.

If you are going Track only, I would get the Supercorsa V2's from riders discount. If you are going street/track probably the Q3's. I'm not a dunlop fan but you don't have to wait for these to warm up. The V2's do cold tear if you don't have warmers and they will slide if you don't warm them up. After a couple laps you can rip on these. Really not meant for the street. I got ~ 5 days out of them in advanced class. Also more feel than the Q3's. I had to put a front on at the track and they only had dunlops so I put a Q3 on. They're not bad, but still prefer the v2's.
The 2CT's are a street tire unless you are in novice/beginner. Any kinda pace and these will slide. I slid my friends 954 around for 1/2 a session in intermediate before I took them off.
