Well before the big meltdown i had a queastion and it still is unanswered. i am getting ready to polish the top half of my frame. i was told by various people that i have to leave the I.D. stickers on both sides of the frame, is this true? any help appreciated.

You can remove it no problem at all and who told you why not to remove it and

I never polished my frame, but I removed the stickers because I didn't want them. There is one sticker on there, if you have a california model, that you might need, but as long as you keep them you should be fine. I don't think they can do anything to you for taking them off. I've seen many bikes without them.

I live in Missouri so no california sticker. I dont know why people would leave them on. I have a couple of friends who polished around them because they thought they had to stay.

No, all your information that is really neeed, the VIN is stamped into your frame.

Thanks, I will probably take off the stickers after work. It should look better even before i polish it. I also was wondering, I had read on here before about some sort of 3M pad you could use for all the rough sanding to speed things up. anybody used anything like that before?

I used a 3M pad that was incorporated into a D-A like drill attachment. It helped a lot for the initial anodized removal. Just be sure to have a steady hand and remove your radiator hose and anything else that might get cut up before starting. The best results I got were hand sanding. It takes a few layers of skin to get it right, but it was worth it in my opinion.

When you guys talk about "stickers" are you talking about the plate with the vin # on it?? I always thought that had to stay on there? Is the vin # stamped somewhere else? :headscrat

Is the vin # stamped somewhere else? :headscrat When they are talking about "stickers" they are takling about the sticker with the vin number on it and also on the other side about other info. The Vin number is stamped on the stearing head on the right side of the bike, at the very front. It is also stamped a few places that most people don't know about.

The more pics the better. my E-mail is cawalker3425@hotmail.com. I took off all the stickers and put them under my solo seat cover. that way they arent visible but if necessary they are still there.

thanks guys! i used a d/a sander up to 600 grit. started at 80 grit. after the 600 i hand sanded with 1000 and then 2000. i have seen people stop at like 400 and then use the shit out of the buffer. with the 2000 grit, there is less maintenance. shine lasts a long time. thanks again for the compliments! :D

I live in Missouri so no california sticker. I dont know why people would leave them on. I have a couple of friends who polished around them because they thought they had to stay. after i removed all my stickers, i found out that i needed to keep the emissions sticker for the dmv here in nc. and supposedly, it is very difficult to get a replacement from suzuki. so if you remove it, restick it under your seat. friggn govnmt! i can't imagine the scenario where i'll need it, but that's what (the better) dealer told me...

when i did mine this is how it went...strip bike down so that frame is easy to det to.... 1) strip the cadium with oven cleaner, mask areas that you do not want striped, then take a scotch brite pad a get with rubber gloves on and get all cadium off. 2) I then sanded the cast part of the frame with an electric da with 180 grit paper till it was smooth and no pin holes left in the cast. (use a light on the cast to see if smooth).then take some 320 and dry sand everthing in the same direction. 3) now comes the blood, sweat and tears...wetsanding. Start with 400 wet and go until it feels like it it getting smoother. this is where sanding the same direction comes into play, when done with each grit make a mark across the frame horizontal from what you was sanding. this will help when you move onto the next grit to see if it ready for the next grit. 4) repeat this process till you used 600,800,1000,1200,1500,2000, and 2500 for the last grit. 5) this step can be done with mothers aluminum polish or go buy a cloth wheel and some white rouge from westlakes. this is the part that will make it all worth while. Buff the frame to a brilliant shine using one of the above methods followed by several coats of mothers aluminum polish. then you can seal the shine with 100% pure carnuba wax. it helps on keeping the water spots down.
