The thread seemed to be a little more about height rather than gender.
I’m 5’5” have a ’06 600. The dealer “softened” the suspension so that it would give a little (about ½ inch). I'll most likely stiffen it up when I feel comfortable on the bike. I wear thick sole shoes that my friends call my “stripper shoes” to get my feet down. The ’06 is important because it comes with adjustable rearsets and the shifter is not connected to the foot peg on the left. This allows me to get the boots in and out more comfortably. I also had a friend teach me to lean the bike coming to and at a stop. This took some practice but the foot plant makes all the difference. Hope this helped. have u ever rode before? I had been riding dirt bikes and quads for a while before I got into street riding. It helped me alot allowing and teaching me to make stops with one foot instead of two.
For a beginner that never rode before I would start on something smaller. I of course started on an 05 gsxr 600 but also had a ninja 250 for a week and couldnt deal with the slowness and it kept breaking down on me. Everyone is different on which bikes to start off on. It all on what you want to pay and what you want to ride for.
If you just want to be a poser and ride to bike nights only then go knock yourself out and get a new gsxr :) not knocking it because thats what I bought my bike for originally. But then I wanted to ride it all over and to the mountains and track etc etc.
If you do decide to get a new bike be prepared to pay for the expensive damage you are going to put on it. Also do u have friends to ride with would teach you? MSF? Feel free to PM me for more info

Just Joy 05-22-2006, 08:42 AM I was told to get some boots with some inches to help me at least tippy-toe, do you wear regular gear or biker boots?
yes, I wear Alpinstar riding boots and full leathers....I wouldn't recommend boots with "inches", firstly, they will get in the way with the shifter, secondly, on uneven ground (pot holes, road slants, ect...) your ankles will be at risk and if that happens you WILL drop your bike. But, that's just my opinion, you, have to make your own decision.... ;) Just Joy 05-22-2006, 08:52 AM Also....I would recommend a riding course.....simply because there you will not only learn how to ride, but also control.....there are riders out there that can rail with the best of them....but can't do a slow turn around, or hill start in traffic if their life depended on it.... chkrdr 05-22-2006, 10:37 PM 5'4 here my bike 05 gsxr 600 is NOT lowered i haven't had any probs yet. i wear boots w/thick sole (i would like to shave the seat, but havent gotten to it yet) last night i had to move my bike to the other side of the garage with no shoes i was standing on 2 big toes  my husband rides an r6 the reach to the bars is much closer to me & i can see close in front of me better since im shorter, but im perfectly comfortable for now. when i bought my bike i talked to a girl who was 4'11 before her bike was loweres she said she had to stop on one foot. now that sounds crazy to me Katztrix 05-28-2006, 11:22 AM I went online and searched for the Icon boots, but they all seem bulky for me, since I'm only 5'0.

This is a great post, my girl is 5' 2" & looking to get her first bike too. I would agree with "Just Joy" about fitting yourself on a bike first. I'm 5' 9" & ride a 03' 750, I can get good grounding with both of my feet at a stop but not completely flat w/both feet.
My girl is also very concerned with the footing issue & was willing to settle for a 250 or 500 for a safe stop. But I think the new bikes are lite and easy to manuver, & a 600 for a beginner should be okay since majority of the noobs know the importance of taking it easy; after the training class. ookime 06-02-2006, 06:39 PM Thanks for the info, but where would I be able to find a place that offers riding courses? Gadget45ACP 09-04-2006, 10:24 AM I'm a guy, but this thread seemed to be about hight and riding comfort associated with it. I'm 5'6 170lbs and cannot flatfoot. I have a '04 R6, in which I shaved the seat, and i feel very comfotable on the bike. The other day I was on a '06 gsxr750, which i fell in love with, and the seating was much better suited for me than my R6 with the shaved seat. I'm considering the purchase of a '04-'05 gsxr750 now, eventhough the model changed slightly in '06...anybody know if the seating dimensions changed between the '04-'05 modles and the '06 model? Anyways, this site might help ya out if you are considering shaving your seat... http://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51561&highlight=shaving+seat Gadget45ACP 09-04-2006, 10:38 AM I also figured that the kickstand maneuver may help shorter riders. This is done by placing your right foot at the base of the kickstand, and rotating the bike about the kickstand, and allows you to rotate the bike in a fixed position. Been doing this with my R6 with no problems, and the R6 kickstands are of less quality than that of the gsxr.
Things to remember when performing this..
Make sure that your foot is placed in a sturdy position
Place so that there is no way for the kickstand to close (i place mine slightly behind the kickstand)
Grasp left handle bar with left hand
Grasp sturdy part of bike such as passenger footpeg w/ right hand
Carefully lean bike towards your body, finding balance point about the kickstand (this will get easier and easier, but be carefull)
Rotate bike clockwise (Never counter-clockwise as the kickstand will naturally want to close)
When bike is facing desired direction, carefully set bike down on two wheels

My friend wants to start riding and she is about your height. She is super slim and clocks in at about 110 lbs.
Have you ridden any other bikes besides the CBR? Any suggestions for a tall girl such as herself to start on?
I have a 2002 600 gixxer and she said it felt like it weighed a ton to her, so I am not sure what options she has.

I'm on my tippy toes on my
'07 GSXR 600. No lowering or softening up the suspension like some have posted up. I don't really have any problems as I learned to lean alittle at lights on my left foot.
My wife is about 5'2" and a buck ten. She had a lil 250 Ninja when we met. She didn't like it because she felt like it was too big for her. I really think this is a confidence thing for her because she rode it.
Back in August, I put her on my 600 about a week or so after I bought it. She dang near dropped it because she could barely touch. It kinda shook her up but then again, we were in the garage (which is slippery), she was wearing flip flops of all things and she wasn't really into getting on the bike at the time.
NOW, she's pestering the crap outta me and I am stumped as to what to get her. I went to the shop today and checked out the closeout GSXR 600's and '08 Ninja 250's but don't really know what to do.
I'm thinking a used 600 or Ninja 250 and lowering and shaving the seat. This seems to be my only option as she and I both agree that she will not ride a Rebel or a cruiser period. Not that she doesn't like them, their just not her style.
She just wants to go ride together and I can really tell she misses riding. Gixxryder 11-27-2007, 05:36 PM 6'1 here Hey yo 11-27-2007, 07:45 PM ehh, 4ft 11.... I'm unable to plant both feet flat on the ground and I hate it. I see a lot of you lowered your bikes and I've been debating about doing it myself but will there be a considerable difference in handling?? SIC06 02-29-2008, 06:08 PM im 6 3' 220lbs my 1000 is fine haha... idk why i even stepped in 6ixxerGixxer 04-01-2008, 03:38 PM how tall........... tooooooooo tall BoilerGrrrl 04-13-2008, 04:41 AM Im almost 5'7" when I bought the bike I lowered it an inch so I could almost flat foot. Well...I have started getting into the track and after a day of CONSTANT nagging about my lowered bike's handling and my control rider letting me know that on the last lap I came milimeters from dragging my pegs I lifted her back up.
I'm ok with it now...I am on the balls of my feet in my Sidi's...but backing the bike up sucks and windy days tend to blow me around more than I like. So I decided to have the seat shaved. I stopped in a place and he said he could take of 2-2.5 inches if I wanted. I went for an inch. And decided to have it covered with charcoal carbon fiber look vinyl. I will let you know how it goes.
If she ever wants to be serious about the track...my understanding is that the bike being lowered will hinder her. But for street riding...lowering the bike one to two inches and shaving the seat should give her the comfort she needs. Flatout 04-13-2008, 06:45 PM I'm a guy, but this thread seemed to be about hight and riding comfort associated with it. Anyways, this site might help ya out if you are considering shaving your seat... http://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51561&highlight=shaving+seat
I'm 5'8" i sat on an 05 750 It didn't feel as comfortable as the 06 750 I bought I don't know why. The 06 just felt right. I can't touch flatfooted but I'm comfortable with how it feels. pinkfloydscorpio 04-13-2008, 07:43 PM I also figured that the kickstand maneuver may help shorter riders.
Goodluck

:) I'm looking like you on my motorbike! GSXR CHXR 04-29-2008, 03:36 PM 5'9", the GSXR is perfect for me, my feet lay flat on the ground when I'm sitting on the bike. I've found that Honda's are too wide and hurt my inner thighs and Yamaha's are a little tall and Kawi's are a tad bigger than the GSXR but still managable. youngjah1000 05-05-2008, 12:34 AM Ok im not trying to be the ass of the forum but im 6'3" on a K6 1000 but the reason im posting is that my 5'3" cousin was sitting on my bike trying to move it when i wasnt around and he ended up tipping it over. So for the more vertically challenged people out there please be able to touch the ground when your on the bike. please MSchumiFAN 05-14-2008, 07:49 PM Great forum! I noticed a lot of folks here are flat footed on your bikes. Anyway, I have a few questions. I will be getting a 2008 GSXR 600 soon. I'm a guy and am 5'8", but my leg-length is my problem (30"). I don't need to be fully flat footed, but want to feel a bit more stable. How much do you recommed lowering the bike? Should I shave seat first then lower of does it matter? Finally, does anyone know how the bike is actually lowered? Any help would be great. Thanks! nater 05-21-2008, 08:00 AM Great forum! I noticed a lot of folks here are flat footed on your bikes. Get the bike first and then decide if you want to lower it. With you height, lowering should not be needed. MSchumiFAN 05-21-2008, 11:56 AM nater thanks for the input. I've been reading a LOT on the web and that is what keep reading. Will do that. Also plan on getting sliders, just in case. nice!...I'm 5'2" / 118lbs and I ride a K7 600. I cruized around for a month or so before my lowering links came in the mail, and I installed them. I had a rough time at first, and yeah I had to stop one footed sometimes, usually I could at-least get the ball of each foot firmly on the ground though. after I lowered it an inch, I'm flatfooted and more comfident on uneven ground. not like [I]I'll[I] be riding anytime soon though.
