Hey guys just curious as to how far away from San Diego the good roads are. Are the good roads to the east where it snows in the winter? I would greatly appreciate if some one would give me cross streets and addresses so I can Google it. Soon to be your neighbor (their goes the neighborhood) Psyg

Go 805 south, get off on "telegraph canyon rd./L st." exit and go east, telegraph canyon rd turns into otay lakes rd. and there you have it very easy and fast to get there. From there you can just explore because it forks off into other roads. Its cool to get lost out there. I like it alot. If youve got a little more experience you can go to Palomar Mtn. Ive been there but not riding. I hear there are many wrecks out there and they happen often. Go to http://www.ridebehindvideos.com theyve got some of palomar mtn. Also just so you can see what it looks like go to http://www.palomarpics.net  be safe

Telegraph is cool, thats my usual ride. Take it SLOOOOW the first few times as there are some messed up places, and the cops are always at Barret Junction before the uphill grade. Palomar is a joke. Its nothing but hairpins going up the mountain. Its a nice cruise but if you're pushing it and go down, you're either going off the mountain, or into a rock wall. People DIE on palomar every damn year. There are a lot of good places to ride in SD. I'd suggest finding a local club.

Funny you say that, dude I met quit riding after he lowsided on a turn at palomar and the only thing that kept him from going off the mountain was a fence. I think he busted his femur and hip.

hey, on the right side of the map where otay lakes goes off the map is where I crashed. the corner that is only half shown on the right side. ROFL are you kidding? Thats turn 4. EVERYONE crashes there. We try and tell people to watch for it and not eat shit but i've seen at least 10 people go down in that corner in the last year. For those that have never been down tele, that corner is nothing special either. Just an off camber left, but I think people actually get target fixated on the lake. And its almost always thier first time through.

Is that the left turn after the long straight? I didnt know anybody had gone down there! You gotta watch that oncoming traffic out there too!

Ya, its right at the begining. 2 turns, a left and a right, then the long straight, a little right hand kink thats turn 3, and then the off camber blind left... Everyone goes down there. We are thinking of puting up a sign that says SLOW DOWN, and LOOK THROUGH THE TURN!!!

yeah a mixture of dirt in the corner, and some asshat going the other way in a car came close to hitting me.

Hehe, the dirts there cause people keep runnin off and kickin dirt onto the road. I've spent probably an hour total in the last year, kicking dirt clods off the road and onto the shoulder in that turn, after people have gone down. Cool part though, is that (knock on wood) no ones ever gotten hurt. Just a dent in thier pride.

I don't live in SD anymore :damn: :damn: but I'll live there again as soon as I can. Anyway, I want to indulge my fond memories of it so I'll reply. oh hell dude, there are SO many great places to ride in SD. Get a big map and look for squiggly roads. Some of my favorites Palomar (yes, lots of crashes there) BUT nice and technical. The West side is super tight, the East side is less tight and faster. So so little restaurant on top. Highland Valley Road Head into Ramona from Poway. Just before town make a left on Highlands Valley Road. Some tight twisties here. LOTS of people crash here though so take it slow the first few times. Some turns just keep getting tighter and tighter. Nice scenery and change of pace. Further into Ramona is the road to the San Diego County Estates. I forget which road. Maybe 2nd st or something? RIght in the middle of downtown you go right. GO down some boring road and it will slam you into some nice twisty stuff. Lots to explore out that way. Go far enough and you end up at the 8 Or, go THROUGH ramona and continue on to Santa Ysabel/Julian. Julian is a great little touristy town with lots of small town character. Continue through Julian to the east and you'll go down to a little podunk town (forget the name... Banner?) SUPER crazy dropoffs on the way down. Be careful! You might as well turn around there unless you're in for a LONG ride. If so, From the podunk town follow the road through some canyon twisties. (by the way, if you continue straight it takes you to Ocotillo wells desert dirtbike riding area, pretty kick ass... just don't ride on the street or ticket you will get) Anyway, turn on SR3 (left) gotta look for it. takes you into Borrego Springs. SOme decent eats to be had there. Head West on the road out of Borrego up the grade, longer sweepers. That will take you back to SR 78 Make a Left on that (which connects back with Santa Ysabel) OR, you can turn off on SR76 to Palomar. Sunrise highway Take the 8E to Sunrise Highway. It's a ways out there (like 20 miles or so) Head into the Mountains (N). This is a nice long ride through mostly sweepers. Telegraph Cyn Road Already detailed above. Nice combo of twisties and sweepers Nice long ride combination Telegraph all the way out till it hooks up with the 8 (there's a turn or two to make. Check your map) THen 8W about a mile to Sunrise Highway. Take that into Julian and then from Santa Ysabel, hang a righ on SR78. Then L on SR76 to Palomar (SR2 or SR3 I think) When done, take the 76 out to the 15. LOTS OF shitty drunk ass drivers on the 76 BE CAREFUL! Lots of casino traffic near the 15 too. Oh well. This is a FULL days ride. Enjoy the weather you lucky bastard :twofinger

Your "long ride" is my typical long ride :) You're ass is hurtin after that ride, but its damn fun. And watch for cops between Ramona and Santa Ysabel. People get popped there a LOT!!! Yeah it is. Love that ride. I forgot one! It's how I always went to Palomar yet I forget some of the road names (lots of turns). Its kinda the other way to Palomar minus puke freeways. From 1-15, take Pomerado road E. 1st stoplight left, follow it around a long way through twisties until DAMN, somebody help me out. What is the name of that road you make the left on instead of continuing straight? Crap! Well, if someone can help, please do. I'll finish anyway .... the left turn I mean almost immediately takes you down the grade. Take the road till it ends then hang a Left (onto SR78?) Follow that until you hit "citrus" Hang a right. At a little convenicence store (OG Market), it will connect to damnit, what is that road? Well, you won't be on it for long so just merge onto it and off you go. Wow, my directions suck for this one. Right at the connection point is a school on the right if that helps out in the map book. Go for a mile or so and make a right at Lake Wholford (nice twists up the grade) Follow that around ....waaaaay around until it ends up at Valley parkway????? make a right and go down the long, sweeper grade with long drop offs (fun though) When the road dead ends at SR76, hang a right and go a few miles till SR2 (good ole Palomar mountain tight side.. careful on those damn near u-turn type turns) ok, now, someone help me with my missing street names. or just go out there and find all the bitchin roads out that way and find your own route. That's what I like to do.

Not telegraph by a long shot. Telecrash runs from 805, North East out past Otay lakes and connects up with the 8 about 30 miles further east. Only road I know that runs parrallel to the 8 is Old Hwy 80.
