hi im drummer03 07-27-2006, 09:00 AM I was wanting some feedback as im interested in these 2 bikes. If i could get some unbias feedbacks that would be really nice....I was wondering about performance on power and handling. Also general stuff like repairs...
johnnylovely 07-27-2006, 10:32 AM The r6 was new for that year while it was the last year of production for the gsxr 600 model 01-03. It was the first year yamaha switched to F.I on its 600. While suzuki made the switch to F.I. in 2001.
Sitting on the two bikes you'll notice right away that the r6 feels a lot smaller with a much narrower gas tank and more rear weight distribution which in turn makes it drop in to corners easier and makes it more prone to wheelies.
Even though they weigh about the same.
The gsxr on the other hand feels more planted at speed and seems to handle better the faster you go. The gsxr also has a steering damper stock unlike the r6 which in my opinion needed one more than the gix.
Onto the powerplants.
The r6's have always been known for their top end but also known for their lack of midrange grunt. The gsxr on the other hand has a much smoother power delivery and feels strong all the way up to 14k rpm with no real noticable hit in delivery. Where the r6 feels more like a 750 from 9k-14.5k but has no balls anywhere below 9k.
If I had to choose and I did ;) I'd go with the gsxr for a couple of reasons.
First because 2003 was the first year for F.I with the yammie and i'm sure they worked out some kinks and addressed some issues for the 2004 model. And since 2003 was the last year for the gsxr model it was a good as it gets from a engineering standpoint.
Second, there are way more performance parts and mods available for the gsxr.
Third, the engine is much, much better for street use than the r6 and has a better sounding exhaust note for the stock canister.
Fourth, I own one. :D It's a 02 but essentially the same.
I could go on and on but you get the idea.

RWOOD 07-27-2006, 01:44 PM I owned a 03 R6 for 3 years...the only issue with the bike was they had a recall on the coils...and it was repaired at no cost to me. No other kinks at all...on my bike anyways.
A good friend of mine had a 03 GSXR600...we traded bikes sometimes on mtn. rides..I didn't care much for the power of the GSXR...and I didn't think it handled as good. He ended up selling his GSXR and bying my R6..thats how much he like the R6.
But that's just opinions...if you have a chance to ride both.. you should..then you can make your own opinion..everyone is different on what they like.
I now ride a GSXR1000...because I didn't like the way the R1 feels.
Buy something that you like...not something someone else likes.
hi im drummer03 07-27-2006, 02:00 PM Word..The way i have seen it they both have there pros and cons like anything..Think the wider frame would be a better fit..R1 may feel like a pocketbike
bigdaddy5964 07-27-2006, 02:10 PM u got the same bike i have....no complaints over here, i got about 18k on mine though ( i likes to ride)
hi im drummer03 07-27-2006, 02:20 PM Think i came out ok?
integrarj 07-27-2006, 07:57 PM yea
Killerbones 07-28-2006, 02:41 PM I have an 02 750 and like the fact that its wider than most bikes, I went on my friends r6 and it did feel a bit narrow, and I'm only 5'8" and still like the wider bike.
hi im drummer03 07-28-2006, 08:06 PM Exscuse me...R6 wouold have felt like a pocketbike too me...
hardcorecycle 08-13-2006, 02:23 AM i had an 03 blk/silver 600 w/ adjustable swingarm, full hindle exhaust and a bmc air filter,,it dynoed 100 whp i traded it in on my 06 1000 they gave me 5500 for it...but i think it is one of the best looking pant schemes they have ever offered
hi im drummer03 08-14-2006, 11:10 PM Agreed..I lovew th paint scheme on this one...
hardcorecycle 08-26-2006, 10:16 PM hi im drummer03
well you've had your gixxer for close to 2 weeks how are do you like it??
I have an 02 GSXR 600, dynoed 100hp at rear wheel on third dyno pass, 97hp on first dyno pass. a friend of mine had an 03 r6 limited edition, ( or whatever that black with red flame paint scheme is) he dynoed 97 hp on his first pass, but he didn't dyno it three times to see what it would really do. SO it appears they both make about the same. My friend bought the bike used, had problems with it, found out it had recals, but he said it was somthing with the fuel injection, although it could have been coils, problem was fixed with no cost to him, even though he was 2nd owner. bought the same info as everyone else. R6 is a clean bike. However, i will never regret getting my 02 GSXR 600, it has been the best bike I ever got. I prefer the body of the GSXR more, but thats my opinion. I have never been impressed by any of the 1/4 mile times I have actually seen run by the R6's, but maybe they didn,t know how to ride to well, not that I am that great. I would say get a GSXR, no recal problem to worry about. Plus, if you get the R6 you will need to find another board to ask questions on. LOL
