Wow, what an awesome day! 18 riders showed up at the meeting point, we talked and met each other, talked out some safety issues (ride your own ride, regroup points, etc), and off we rode at 10am. The faster riders did their thing, and the riders who chose a slower pace did theirs. We regrouped often, and didn't lose anyone! Once we headed up Sunrise, the faster riders took off and had a blast. We regrouped at the point Sunrise intersects 79 and talked about the repaving on the 79 for the next 5 miles. No big deal, the gravel is getting worked into the pavement and it wasn't as bad as the other day. We rode into Julian, and down to Santa Ysabel to top off our tanks and eat lunch. Everyone had big smiles about the ride, and all was good. After lunch some took off for home, the rest of us rode to Palomar at the bottom of South Grade and started our rides up and down. More people started peeling off for home and other family and work obligations, the rest of us stayed and played. Unfortunately, one of the riders thought he'd try to keep up with his friend and couldn't, ending up going off the road and almost down into a ravine. He did not remember or did not think relevant the single most important rule of riding: RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE, NOT SOMEONE ELSE'S. By trying to keep up with his buddy, he pushed beyond his skill limit, with almost deadly results. So that put the damper on all our spirits and once the medics and friends arrived to help out, the rest of us headed for home by way of Leg 3 on the map I posted. We rode Old Julian, Highland Valley, etc and finished the day with more smiles on our faces. AWESOME DAY!!! Thanks everyone for great spirits and keeping it all together. Tonight I called and spoke with the crashed rider's friend and he's getting stitched up and is OK. Don't know the status of his bike, it looked pretty bad when I saw it against the tree 10' down the cliff. Ouch. So... please remember to wear protection (the rider had leathers on and heavy work boots), and more importantly RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE! Let's do another ride again soon, we have a good group here in San Diego.

+1 on the ride. Glenn set up an awesome route, and the group was diverse enough that we all managed to have someone to ride with. If you haven't joined the Yahoo group yet, do it, and next time we hope to see you out there! http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/socalrider/join

All is well with Noah... Amy & I gave him a ride home from the hospital. Other than a gnarly puncture wound on his leg, he is fine. Since his bike went off the cliff and smacked in to a big tree, it is totalled. We took him to dinner last night, and he was already talking about what his next bike will be. :) Of course, I was trying to persuade him to go get a new k6 1000  Glenn~ Nice job on setting up a great ride....I had a great time opening it up on Sunrise Hwy (and leaving you guys to eat my peeled off rubber :yumyum: ) Let's do it again soon..... Chuck

Awesome to hear that Noah is ok. I figured he wouldn't be too long without a bike, he is definitely one that was born to ride. So Chuck, is Amy a permanent fixture on the twisty runs now?

L, Thanks for asking about Amy..... I have watched her progress over the past year, and I think she rode a great ride for her first time up to Palomar.....I am VERY proud of her, and I am stoked that my lady rides....what more could a guy ask for???? :bounce Nice riding with you....see you soon, Chuck

In my post I chose to not mention him by name, some people get pissy if you broadcast their business. yeah, thanks for the compliments, there are many more roads to explore, I'll post another one for the weekend after next-- this coming weekend I have other plans. BUT I am available weekdays for other rides, if anyone's interested!
