FastGsxrRider 08-16-2006, 05:18 PM I have looked at alot of pic of you people, I guess many of you have not fallen off your bike yet. All i see are people in shorts, no gloves, sneakers, i hate to be ya all if you fall off your bike. I have to say when i ride i wear it all, all the time. Arai helmet, vanson coat, Agv boots, teknic gloves, full pants, never shorts, and ear plugs.....Yes i can hear everything around me, it kills only the noise i dont want to hear, like wind noise.and i can hear the bike better when i ride. :twofinger
Are you sure you live in FL?
JK.
Personally I don't hit the twistys or ride hard for that matter.
I do however understand the need for protection and I know that I can't tell what the other person is going to do...ever.
But holy shit it gets hot here. I was in Brooksville two sundays ago and damn near died from the heat! I saw guys wearing full leathers and just don't see how you do it. :hmmm:
wasntme 08-24-2006, 07:10 PM So what you are saying is that if you do not ride hard or ride the twistys you will never crash therefore never need protection? Hhhmmmm interesting concept except it is BS. It is not a matter of if you are going to crash but when you are going to crash. I am stealing a line from ShortyR6 "dress for the crash not the ride."
I have alot of tattoos...several grand worth...so my personal favorite is seeing the guys who have alot of ink riding with no shirt on. First slide on the pavement and all the ink is gone.
Be hot and wear the gear...it is much better then the alternative.

Nope, I would never be so stupid as to propose a concept such as that.
Your right gear is much safer.
Just wondering how you keep the old brain from frying.
:hmmm:
wasntme 08-28-2006, 08:08 PM Ride on the track. 15 minutes on 30 minutes off. Safer, faster, and free from tickets. Get to sit down with a cool drink in the shade and haul ass again when they call your group. Street riding does not hold a candle to the track.
That IMO is the best way to keep the old brain from frying.
pinto 08-29-2006, 07:52 AM ok so your saying if i just wear my jacket and gloves i am still dumb i just like riding and when i get to where i am going i dont want to be soaking wet!

mr_cox 08-29-2006, 08:04 AM do you guys in the south wear your helmets?
pinto 08-29-2006, 08:13 AM not if you live in south carolina you dont have to but i live on the state line and my life means more to me then me looking cool without one so i wear mine

Most accidents happen at intersections. And most are a result of motorists not seeing us. So a crash can happen anytime. I always wear a jacket gloves helmet and jeans. When I ride hard I wear the full leathers. Just me though, not saying anyone should follow suit, it is up to personal preferences.

Yes I am a puss because I like to have my skin attached to my body, I like to have my head without any extra holes in it, I like to be able to use my hands, oh and I really like to survive a crash. All of that put together makes me a giant puss...you got me.
It is your life and your body. If you want to have a disfigured body or no life left it is your problem not mine. But rest assured you will be called squid by those who do not agree with you and be certain if you post about your road rash when you wreck I will be there to rag on you. Be safe when you ride so you can ride again.

so :headshake ............its a overkill on the street or are ya just scared to die ?? because when your #s up aint no amount of gear gonna save ya bubba !!!
Vigelante 08-30-2006, 11:02 AM Personally i always wear my helmet no matter what, and gloves... Gloves can mean the difference between you wiping your own ass or someone doing it for you... Always jeans or thick BDU's and if no jacket always have the body armor on... I wrecked doing 65 on a 12 o clock wheelie in the jacket a year ago on my f4i, and when you are down its always nice to get up and find no broken bones or road rash to be able push your bike away before any cops got there... seeing where the damage was on the jacket showed me it woulda been that much harder to push my bike away had i not been wearing it... lol to each their own i guess... :arsenal

well jacket and gloves are not going to stop broken bones but i wear my jacket and long pants so i will only have half the rash:fu:

So what do you need a Gixxer for? All the "posers" out here in CA, at least, wear their Valentino Rossi or Mladin jackets with their tennis shoes and jeans. You see 'em cruisin' the strip Friday and Saturday nights, but never up in the hills with the real riders!
Huggies 09-10-2006, 06:22 PM Yep always atleast go with helmet, jeans, boots, and gloves being upnorth wore a jacket gotta find a nice mesh for down here:thumbup:

If you've been riding for 16 years and you've been down but you still don't wear good gear then you are still a squid.
It's not necessarily about saving my life (though by wearing proper gear you're a lot more likely to survive a bad wreck), but if you're in a minor spill proper gear will prevent months of agony and humiliation as someone else has to wipe your booty every time you take a dump, or help you pee, or anything else that you take for granted. I don't want to suffer through that, and I don't want anyone I love to have to do that for me either. That's why I wear gear appropriate to my riding for the day.
If it's too hot to wear proper gear, it's too hot to ride.

CNY750Rider 09-11-2006, 04:25 AM I just called my mom to let her know this thread exists. Maybe she can log on and lecture with all you guys too. Since you've been debating the gear issues....I have been riding. It's nice. Funny how I can throw a t-shirt and shorts on and nobody will say shit when I roll up to the hang out....never, not once. Then you get online and see a bunch of keyboard jockeys going at it. LMAO. Not that I don't ride with gear...usually always do. But if your telling me you wear full gear all the time, no matter what....I call BS. We have all done it atleast once. There are three threads that always turn into debates....tires, gear & religion.
STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE NEIGHBORS.....your not going to change everyone so put your energy into riding instead of lectures. It's freaking common sense to wear it......if they can't achieve that level on their own....what makes you think they will listen to you?
Ride on people, ride on. Winter is almost here. There is no time to dress other people.
As always, my amazing two cents.

CNY750Rider 09-11-2006, 10:49 AM Do you wear full leathers when riding into the office? Just curious...
sp3cialk 09-11-2006, 11:03 AM Don't ride to the office... I don't like riding with a backpack and I have no other way to carry my laptop in... I mean do they make saddle bags for gixxers???
but I hate straight roads... considering I was at the Playground yesterday full leathers would have been nice... I had to slow myself up because I about drug my knee on a few occasions... and that's not a bright idea in jeans...

thanks guys, your graphic photos have changed my mind. Wow, what a reality check. You have really woke me up and changed my mind with all your efforts. If it wasn't for you guys....I wouldn't be able to do anything on my own. Thanks again.

Chango 09-11-2006, 12:47 PM Will someebody actually take a good look at that pic before posting it up again? One racing-style boot, one tennis shoe, the damage to the helmet does not match the damage to the "head", a back protector that obviously wasn't being worn, etc etc etc. Sure, it's messy, but there's an awful lot about that pic that just doesn't add up. Gear nazis agree that hitting a telephone pole at 186 mph will kill you no matter what. That's not the argument. The argument for wearing good gear is the low speed stuff, like low siding on an onramp or whatnot. In cases like that, which happen a lot more often than hitting telephone poles at 186, good gear will prevent some injuries and lessen the ones you still get. It's sense. Try it.

they said he had a backpack on that contained all those out of place items ....makes sense to me
This topic has been covered so many times and always has the same outcome.
I could care less if you dont ride with gear, Im not going to be the one paying for your medical bills and wiping your ass. Its plain and simple if you dont wear your gear you are an IDIOT!! Why dont you take up skydiving and decide to go squid style.......
On Sundays we usally put on 200-300 miles hittin the twistes all over Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas, I always wear full leathers on those days. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Riding back and forth to work I leave the leather pants at home but the rest of my gear does not change. If one of the guys showed up with no gear for a twisty session that would be be the last time he rides with us!
As it has been said before" Dress for the crash not the ride"
If gear was not so important why do you have to have it on a track........Why? Becasue its the rules, and the only reason rules are made is beacuse some people are just to fucking stupid to have any common sense.:hmmm:
1radgix 09-11-2006, 03:36 PM a rule:headshake .......just like some states dont have a helmet law :)
a rule:headshake .......just like some states dont have a helmet law :)
Its called natural selection, Also a good way to weed out the shallow end of the gene pool! Simple fact if you ride with out a helmet your a fucking moron!!
I have no symapathy for fools who ride with no helmet!
I can almost guarantee that 95% of the members of sportbike motorcycle forums will agree with me! And to the other 5%......... well........good luck FUCKTARD!
I am back riding after a ten year absence, and would not think of riding without a helmet, or jacket, or pants.
I am 34 now. I can remember how much of an idiot I was at 24, NOT wearing a helmet, taking twistys to fast, wearing shorts, riding after a couple of beers.
When you get older, you realize that there is way too much to lose, especially if you are married or have kids....OR have an awesome job, that you cannot afford to lose to stupidity.
Anyhow, most crashes occur close to home, and at slow speeds. That one guy is misinformed about not wearing gear, because he does not do twistys, or travel at a high rate of speed.
Ok...Ride like a dumb ass...die like a dumb ass. Like the guy in the pretty picture, Period!
What kind of speed does it take to obliterate a body like this?!
Why wasn't he on the track at that speed?!
Does anyone have statistics on the ratio of Harley riders biting the dust compared to sportbike riders? If you do I'd like to read them.
Harley riders = no gear.
Why would you lowside on an entrance ramp? Could it be because your tires were cold and you were riding a little too fast??? I know at the track pro riders use tire warmers to heat up their tires before entering any turn at speed.
Again at the track where speed is supposed to be tested.
The only time I've ever gone down is because I've done something stupid.
Me NOBODY ELSE BUT ME!
I've watched this thread and seen myself get slammed word after word.
I've also seen stunt riders in vids on THIS forum wearing NO GEAR (I do wear a helmet and jeans by the way) and the same people that have been slamming me are praising the shit out of these guys. CAN SOME ONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME!!!
Granted I can't tell what the other driver is going to do but I do play heads up ball when I am on the street. I don't ride around pulling ass hole stunts or cut in and out of traffic like the guys who give sportbike riders a bad name do.
So before you continue this, YAY IT'S FUN TO SLAM SOMEONE!!! crowd mentality I'd suggest you look in the mirror and ask yourself why you went down the last time.

You mean you never saw the "pile up fairy"? I have seen him at least four times. He goes around organizing body parts into a nice pile. The guy has been around forever. He has been around so long he piled up the body parts of Fred Flinstone's other neighbor Tom. He had a bad accident where he left his feet down and the rear wheel took off his legs....tragic. Anyways the Pile Up Fairy has been around.
1radgix 09-18-2006, 05:52 PM show me the police report THEN i will believe it what about the bike why dont we have one of it in a pile? ITS FAKE
its about 500 ft away thats not the only pics of it ........it was in brazil the guy went through some trees and ended up back on the road ....he was on a red/white yamaha ....IT REAL!
1radgix 09-18-2006, 05:56 PM another pic
M_Easy 09-18-2006, 06:58 PM Disgusting as this picture is, LOOK at it- the skid marks stop right at the pile of body parts?? where's the tire that caused the skid? And what the fk was that skid from? There's a wheel off to the side there.. Could that be the culprit?
So I'm picturing that clump of body parts sliding across the street on a tire that disappeared when it all stopped?? Is that right? OR law enforcement/EMT/Coroner (in the pic wearing their shorts and sandals) piled all the parts up then walked away, for someone else to bag em all up? It just don't add up. In my world 2+2=4.
For the record, I respect my bike, and prepare for the idiots out there, as I think we all should. I have a daughter and a fiancee, and I'm trying to be here for them.
I will say, however, that I think that slinging this pic around to illustrate the potentials is about as much overkill as using a ricer streetrace crash to illustrate why we should not do 45 in a 35. Yes, you should obey the limit, but is THAT the likely outcome if you don't? Nah. Notwithstanding the fact that in this pic, 2+2=1
My vote: Gear up, but if nothing else, wear your helmet. Riding without a helmet is the type of decision one would make after having already incurred one too many head injuries.
Enough of my gear platform. Don't mean to be on a soapbox, guys. Just my .02.

Droppd 09-22-2006, 12:18 AM In a situation such as that wreck with visable bodily mutilation all civilian enteraction would be cut off from the accident site. Therefore, joe shmoe wandering down the road in his board shorts and beach sandals wouldnt be in the picture.
The picture is fake, plain and simple, there's a huge skid mark coming up to the body, however there is no damage done to the landscape inches away from the pile at the edge of the road. Also, the site would be left untouched while pictures were being taken, and there is no chance in hell that any person on scene would be allowed to pile up body/bike parts to take a picture.
Those are the simple facts. Until you post a link to a police report proving the accident is real, it isn't.
rocket 10-10-2006, 11:46 AM Since everyone else has put their 2 cents in ..
I live in Gainesville FL where there is no onshore or offshore breezes, so it gets hot. I always wear a helmet (not required in FL), gloves, jacket (mesh), and jeans.
The arguments of "when it's your time, no amount of gear will save you" and "you're scared if you wear gear" just does not work for me, though they are both right in some ways.
If you wreck at 150 mph and fly into a tree, you're a goner with or without gear. However, if you go down at a more legal road speed, a helmet, gloves, and jacket COULD BE (that's the key) the difference between a concussion and a cracked skull, a broken finger and a severed hand, a broken shoulder and severe internal bleeding, and for damn sure a lot of road rash.
Heck yeah I'm scared. I am riding a vehicle that can go from 0-135 mph in 10.25 seconds, that can't stay up right on it's own, that is connected to the ground with two quarters worth of rubber, that has no airbags, has no seat belts, has no crumple zones, surrounded by objects 10 times my size coming towards me at a combined speed of 100 mph at times as close as a foot away at any given moment. That's in best case scenario. I'd keep my distance from anyone who isn't scared of what COULD happen considering all those facts.
Either way, wear whatever you want, enjoy the ride, and accept the consequences.

Raleighgsxr 10-14-2006, 06:37 PM I'm with you 100% Rocket. (these days at least) I'm in NC now, but ironically used to ride my VFR 750 to class at UF balls to the wall with nothing more than a decent helmet.
If you ride 150mph everywhere maybe leathers is a waste as when you hit something they probably won't offer much protection. If I do hit the pavement and live to tell about it I damn sure don't want to spend the next 4 years getting skin grafts and dental surgery.
You guys laffing at each other for dressing in full gear to ride your sport bikes - I am sure you can imagine the shit I caught for showing up at the Harley bars in my full faced Shoei!
And Yes, gruesome and probably effective at making a point, that photo is fake. Looks more like the dude was riding in Iraq and hit an IED.

I think that the skid marks are from where they drug the partial torso across the road and not from a tire.
