AlvinLee 08-18-2006, 10:50 AM Was just wondering what everyone from ontario, or maybe even all of canada's, insurance rates were, so I/we can all compare prices.
Please include, Company, age, experience(?), province, bike, record (tickets? accidents?), coverage, price.
So far, my best results were through State Farm.
23, Male, M2 for 1 year now, Ontario, GSX-R 600, 0 Tickets, 0 Accidents, Liability coverage only.
$184/month x 12 = $2205
I was browsing through the entire forum, and the American rates are so insanely low! I'm assuming that its because the motorcyclist population there is much more dramatic than in ontario or even canada.
gsxr4400 08-20-2006, 12:09 AM Its private out in bc which is good. Full coverage for a year is 1800 bucks. But remember you dont ride for 12 months so cut that in half for the ridding season. ALso if you have had your bike licence for 10 years you can go private on the collision and w/e else you want and going that way its about 1300.
slapnuts 08-20-2006, 05:15 PM I also use State Farm.. 42 Year old male, 0 accidents or tickets. Licenced since about 1988. 2004 gsxr 750..Full coverage...$ 800/ year
gixxer750W 08-22-2006, 10:25 AM I'm 37, in Ontario, M2 since Jan 2002, 92 GSXR 750 since Sept '05, 0 accidents, 0 points, Liability only, $1438. per year with Kingsway.

gsxr4400 - you only ride for half the year in BC? I went til 3rd week of Nov last year and I've been riding since last week of April this one . . . in Ontario to boot! :infrandom
What's the matter - too much rain out your way? :headshake
(yes, I am a sarcastic f*_k . . .) :bounce
69scooter 08-22-2006, 06:42 PM Ontario, 40 years old, perfect record, over 20 yrs with licence. I am insured with primmum for about 950.00 liability only. they will not insure a sport bike for any comprehensive without an alarm. oh ya 02 GSXR1000.

Well actualy Im in kamloops, so it bearly rains at all here, maby like 4 times a yea. I was rounding it off, I have been riding since the start of march, up until prob end of November so 9 months about. OH im 23 no accidents or tickets, licence since I was 16.
How could you ever ride a bike worth anything with just liability, thats kinda stupid unless its a beater old thing. I get full eveything with 200 deductible for eveything. ANd in about 2 more year or if you have had your licence for 10 years take about 400 bucks off of what I said in my first post. Thats pretty damn expensive for just liability, not to mention if you crash your fucked. SO saying that I would never ride without full coverage. Unless it was a cheep old beater.
gsxr4400 08-22-2006, 11:09 PM It also doesnt help our rates any by those people that ride like idots, doing tricks and treating the steet like a race track, crashing and what not. One big reason why our rates are so high.

I hate not having theft or collision coverage. I also think it is bullshit that I have to spend over 500.00 on an alarm so I can insure my bike. My guess is the bigwigs at the insurance company own the alarm companys because they do nothing to protect a bike from theft, bike thiefs will be stealing bikes just to get the alarms off of them.
SILVERK5 08-23-2006, 08:43 AM Bike: GSX-R1000 2005
Me: Male, 40, 25 years experience on bikes.
Driving record: 1 speed ticket (in car) still on record (+20kph)
Insurance record: One 2000$ claim on car in last year, 100% my fault.
Price: 1500$ for 1 year (tx included) with PRIMMUM (a subsidiairy of TD Bank)
Insurance contract: both sides covered, 1000000$ civil, 1000$ deductible (high deductible but it's covered by another policy I purchased with the bike that replaces it by a brand new bike in case it's totaled... side benefit: they cover the deductible of other insurances).
I had to install a Viper alarm on the bike.
gixxer750W 08-23-2006, 09:01 AM GSXR4400 - I only ride with liability because with a $1000 deductible it would literally DOUBLE my premium to $2876 per year & I can't see the point in paying that per year when I paid $3000 for the bike originally. Keep in mind my bike is a '92.
Besides, if I had to pay almost 3 grand for insurance for a motorcycle I wouldn't ride, (and I ride my bike almost every day, both as a commuter vehicle & for pleasure).
Brgds,
Darren

69scooter - you might want to check out Kingsway. I originally looked at Primmum but they were about 1K more for just liability.
One other possibility: a friend of mine is with State Farm & he's always found them cheaper than the others, (FYI).
Brgds,
Darren

Ya thats what I meant more or less if your primium is more then what the bike is then dont botter, same as if its a older bike. Between my dad and I we have 3 81 honda cb900 supersports, we just insure them with liability and out in bc they have a thing when your bike is 25 years old(this goes for cars as well) you can get colector plates which is super cheep, one year for just liability for our old bikes is about 150 bucks. As in that case we dont need full eveything seeing how the bikes are only worth 1500 bucks.

Will they insure just a bike or do you have other stuff with them too? I am not to happy with the way my rates have been creeping up with primmum either.

GSkyX-R1000 12-29-2006, 06:53 AM I'm in Laval, Quebec. 41 y/o woman with a brand new Gix 1K 06 with only 1 1/2 year experience .
Full coverage is 831$ a year .. but they also have my other bike ... an 05 Kat, my car ... my house ... hubby's 2 bikes and car !!!
Well .... they must love us with all our toys !!!
avsagain 01-04-2007, 04:51 PM i'm in BC and pay ICBC $642 with $1 million liability to be on the road, and i pay ING $550 for comprehensive on an 06 750 and all my gear is included.
the 00 ZX9 i had last year was just over $1300 combined with the same coverage, but a lower declared value.
summing it up then, the 750 is 6 years newer, worth twice as much on the open market, has 53,000 less kms than the ZX9 had, is 30 pounds lighter, it only has 1 less hp, and it costs me $100 less per year to insure.
i like the new math
add in fuel injection, a steering damper, inverted forks, radial brakes, best sport bike ever made honours, and the list goes on.
but after all of that, i would still like to deal with state farm
