Skipstr 03-05-2005, 09:27 PM 2nd Day? sweet man!
Well second day on a street bike..
dirt bikes I started years ago.. but they are 2 different things... I couldnt even get comfortable with the wheel up on the street bike untill yesterday..
Motojoe_23 03-06-2005, 04:05 AM lookin good man, but you are going to need to lean back some more to get a comfortable balance point established.straighten your arms a bit and you will be floating long ones in no time
Skipstr 03-06-2005, 09:55 AM Is that what I am doing.. cuz really I am just riding it through with power instead of riding the balence point... which is what I want.. Do most of you use the passenger pegs or riders pegs... and do you guys use the rear break of the down revs to keep you at the balence point.?
Nice job, im jus to scared to wreck my new bike to even try wheelies yet.

Most peopl use the riders pegs. And the rear brake and engine braking are only for when you go past BP. In second on my 600 for standup wheelies i standup and give it a bounce on the pegs, and let of and open the throttle at the same time. Then I am leaning back and as it gets close to balance point I start easing off the throttle. I have a hindle highmount and my right heel is resting on the pipe when I am leaned back doing a standup.
Walk04 03-07-2005, 09:30 PM Aight, what do you think I am doing wrong, I have already read the wheelie 101 thing, maybe someone can fingure this one out for me though, I have really just tryed power wheelies with my 2001 GSX-R with no luck, I usually do it in first gear, go to 7-8 rpms let off the throttle all the way, than get on it again hard. Have had no luck in getting the front end up, am I just not getting on it hard enough because I am scared or what. Kinda off topic, but I have been trying to do Endoes to, going about 30mph, cant get the back end to come up, I did however lock up the front tire the other day and it wobbled, that was some scary shit, how hard should you grab the front brake?
Motojoe_23 03-08-2005, 03:57 AM IF you are not getting it up in first,it is you not the bike. I especially on a standup. Idostraight throttle stndups in second on my 03 600 wich is pretty much the same bike.
usdm420 03-08-2005, 06:35 PM i have an '04 600 and have just started fuckin around with it....it'll most def. come up at 8K if you close/open the throttle.....dont be too scared, its not THAT easy to loop your 600 on power alone..and when i say dont be TOO scared, its cuz having a little fear is always good!
I have a 04 and I power up in first gear. But I have to sit far back on my seat then take it up to 7k or 8k and drop it and once i feel the forks compress then i just rip it right open again.
Motojoe_23 03-09-2005, 08:42 AM If you run it sitting normally up to 6-7K and just WHACK it open it will come up, no need to clutch or to let out.
Skipstr 03-09-2005, 09:55 AM I can be rolling at about 5k RPM (in first) and lean back with a throttle crack and thats how I start my wheelies.. and I have a 93' 750.. I dont have the power you all do and its no problem in first gear.. Second is a whole different game.. I have to be way up in the RPMs or dump the clutch, and thats scary...
Stoppies are giving me a lot of trouble.. I can do them for days on my dirt bike but keep haveing the front wheel lock up on me. I think I need a new front tire and a lot more lean to get it..

jeepboyyj 03-09-2005, 03:24 PM I generally step back onto the passenger peg with my left foot and keep my right foot on the rider peg to cover the brake just incase. I personally tend to pull to the left if I don't step back so using the passenger peg feels safer for me. I used to have a problem with leaning forward, i guess instinct from years of dirt, but I found that as long as i keep my head up and my back generally straight i can find the ballance point much easier. I don't really like 1st gear wheelies onlt because it seems to come down hard. First will come up with just a roll on, second a small bounce and roll on. I have an '02 750 though. I used to clutch the crap out of my sv and the first time I tried a wheelie on the 750 i did it the same way i did on the sv and about looped it in 2nd. scared the :poo: out of myself. Just keep your head up and you will find it requires alot less throttle and you will feel like you can go for miles. Just watch for cops, they don't like it very much.
Motojoe_23 03-09-2005, 06:31 PM the half passenger peg and half driver peg feels WEIRD to me....... I can do first second and 3rd standups and 1st and 2nd sitdowns..... 03 600
jeepboyyj 03-09-2005, 07:52 PM Yeah i don't know why but i seem more comfortable and stable like that. Haven't tried third yet but I'm positive it shouldn't be hard. 1st gear sit downs come up the same with just roll on, second if i clutch it a tiny bit or get a decent bounce, kinda hard to bounce when sitting, it comes up easy. I just like to see where I'm going so I prefer to stand. But everyone is different. I want to try spreaders on the tank but I'm affraid I'm gonna pull to the left like when I use both rider pegs.
ZgixxeR 03-09-2005, 10:22 PM skipstr, you are very close to the balance point. I found that with speed you don't get quite to the balance point but you stay a little under it because of wind resistance. I couldn't do first gear stand ups. I can do first gear wheelies but they are no fun at all. Second are fun and third are the best for me.
Anyone just beginning needs to be very careful in first no matter what size bike they are on, even a six will loop. It's not as easy to loop a six but it will come up on you. Most people don't do wheelies like skipstr on the second day. It took me months to learn sit downs and even longer to learn stand ups. Take your time and be careful.
bigjimbo 03-11-2005, 07:40 AM hes also wearing full gear! good job
Got2josh 03-11-2005, 09:10 AM looking good, but did you notice that you're hunping the tank? Next time you go out try to pay attention to what you're doing with your body and I'll bet you'll notice that when you get it high you through your weight foreward.
Pretty much find a position and stick with it, if you're not bouncing it, which you really don't need to do when clutching 1st and 2nd, you don't need to move your body much. When you feel like you're getting too high give it a little taptap on the rear brake to bring you right back down. Sure looks like you're almost there though, good luck and keep wearing the gear.
