Drove to floridia last year from NY in my van wit the family. Seem like cudnt go couple hours without seein retreads on the hwy. Espec south of the boarder in the hotter states (guess of course heat a factor in blown truck tires). Recently had a friend who was hit by one on his bike doin bout 70 on the hwy. He was on a heavy cruiser which prob saved him cause it hit and bent his footplate instead of hittin his leg or sometin. I have another friend whos buddy was killed some yrs back cause a the same thing. I don personally know anyone else who was cought or injured cause a them things but I have heard of it not only for bikes but cars too. I was hit by one not too long ago in my car. A truck ran it over n a piece flew up n pow right into my left front side. Fortunate all except for a lit car damage was ok. But the point is theese thins shud not be allowed. Prob the single most hazard on an open hwy there is. The expense of replacin tires instead of retreadin them is jus somethin theese truck companies shud hav to eat. Jus seams savin money is more important then accidents n possible injuries n deaths. They shud be illegal. What you think bout this???

During my MSF course, the instructer told us how he once saw someone in a convertible get whacked in the face by a truck tire.

If you can be fined for littering, they should at least have to stop and pick em up.I live in Florida and you cant go a mile without seein at least a couple big chunks of retread on the side of I-4. I almost got smacked the other night by one in my car.IMO they should be Illegel, but they NEVER will be. Tire companies make alot of money selling them,The Gov makes money off the tire companies,The Gov makes money off the truck companies, and the Gov can raise taxes to fund road cleanup, either that or have prisoners do it on our dime.

Hate to be a postwhore, and sorry to go a little off topic, but this reminded me of a story... I can remember it like it was yesterday...
I was crossing the bridge from tampa to st.petersburg and there were these two gay guys in a little car next to me, they kept pulling up to my truck and, like waving at me or something, like they were trying to hit on me...disgusting. So I pulled into the next lane, so did they, pulled into the next,so did they (The bridge is 4 wide) I get a head a little ways, pass some cars and think that I'm away from them... Then I see them comin up from behind(no pun intended) and they go to pass me on the left.Well... Just then on the other side of the highway,as we're getting off the bridge, theres a big rig and one of its wheels just FALLS OFF!! Its rolling about 60mph bounces into our side of the highway, and plows right into the guys car, dead center middle of the hood!!! We were going about 80 and those wheels weigh a ton, so his car is totalled. Im dying laughing, and just then the wheel lands right next to my truck! Like inches away from me, the force of hitting the first car shot it straight up in the air. Didnt hurt my truck but the Gay guys car was toast, it looked like it went all the way into the engine. Anyway sorry to ramble but I felt that story need to be shared.:funny:

I can't imagine a tire impact on the highway being anything but horrid, for someone on a motorcycle.
It's not only tires though, I've seen bricks fall right from the back of semi's.
The force of one brick flying down the highway made my car bunny hop from the impact.
It'll always be one thing, it not another ...
I wouldn't want to worry about someone's tire blowing off and knocking me out ...
As interesting as that story might be at my funeral.

I think recaps should be banned on everything, trucks, cars and planes! And yes the airlines use a lot of them and they too come off. As for Calli making them illegle I think that only applies to the front or steering wheels at least that's the way it was.

Got the tire tread hazzard beat!!!!!!
I ran into an empty refrigerator box a few days ago. I almost shit my pants ant 70 mph! The thing just flew right out of the back of a truck while I was riding behind it. I thought I was gonna die!:laughingr (funny now:thumbup: )
I hit it and it kinda just bounced forward and to the right...LOL. I never even TRIED to react. I didn't even know a prayer to flash through my head...LOL. Just an "OH SH.....BOOOM!", then it was over. The Mexican in the truck tried to give me his last $3 to cover my damages(:funny: ). There were no damages, I just think he had no insurance or liscense and this was his way to make it "OK" hahahaha

Retreaded tires suck!!! They fuck up my car and I've had a few foot long chunks fly by my head on the beltway before (also in MD). Vassago we gotta move to PA now O'Mally's gonna run MD into the ground.
