gixxersvnfty 08-24-2004, 11:16 AM Whats up all..just picked up a 04 gsxr 750 3 weeks ago. I love this bike. It's my first bike and I don't know much about bikes. In 3 weeks I have put 800 miles and already stacked once. But i take it as a good learning experience. The bike is all fixed. pretty minor.
Anyway I got a nail in my rear tire. can that be repaired or should I get a new tire? Thanks for any help.
skibum91 08-24-2004, 11:20 AM Welcome to the site.
Get a new tire, you can get kits to plug them, but they are usually only rate at 55mph and when you only have 2 tires, and one has a chance of blowing, your not looking at good stats there. Just buy a new one, might be expensive but worth it if the other one blows and causes even more damage.
1ktime 08-24-2004, 11:31 AM Amen Brother, gods angels only do the posted speed limit, so whatever over that you on you own, minimize the risk.
9ty2point5 08-24-2004, 11:53 AM hell iu did an indicated 173 on a plugged tire!!
but buy a new one if you have da $$$
skibum91 08-24-2004, 11:55 AM I wouldn't chance it, i've seen what can happend when a tired blows at those speeds.
gixxersvnfty 08-24-2004, 12:23 PM Thanks for the advise. Anyone know what model and brand tire is good...and where to get at a good price?
skibum91 08-24-2004, 12:54 PM ronayers.com is a good one, i like the michelin pilot sport tires.

skibum91 08-24-2004, 01:39 PM and mladin at like 180 had one go.
scottatbhm 08-24-2004, 01:53 PM If you can't afford a new tire, the second best solution is a vulcanizing patch applied from the inside.
skibum91 08-24-2004, 02:00 PM still taking a risk with that. It would be best to just buy a new tire.
Reyd1 08-24-2004, 02:07 PM Yup, I agree on that too....Don't want to gamble with your new bike on a tire repair.....
Congrats on your new bike except for the nail though....
gixerfast 08-24-2004, 05:08 PM man its better to go ahead and fork out the $$ for a new tire than to have it pluged and it blows on you at 100+ then you got fork out the $$$ for those medical bills and worst of all bike repairs plus a new tire. BTW I like th pilot sports
skibum91 08-24-2004, 05:09 PM very good advice ^^^^^^^^ :)
kneedragger 08-25-2004, 10:00 AM If you can't afford a new tire, the second best solution is a vulcanizing patch applied from the inside.
I will second that. But the patch is only as good as the person who puts it on. I have ran a tire down through the threads and started showing the patch. At that point i got a new tire
Reyd1 08-25-2004, 10:39 AM Yup $$ for a new tire is way cheaper than taking a chance and spending $$$ and time on fixing a bike, injury...skin grafts...etc, etc....
9ty2point5 08-25-2004, 12:57 PM pffft...safety :D
skibum91 08-25-2004, 01:08 PM stop whoring now 92, wouldn't want big bad gsxrsrad yelling at you and getting pissed, hahaha  :D
lshybrid195 08-27-2004, 05:54 AM i would have to agree with everyone else don't patch the tires save yourself the trouble and get a brand new tires. because i heard alot of thing about patch tires

lshybrid195 08-27-2004, 09:04 AM let who whore?

skibum91 08-27-2004, 09:06 AM 92 don't whore, he's over all the whoreing.
how can all those people be wrong in ama when they go with dunlops or motogp and fim superbike with michelin perelli and now bridgestone , but if your a racer , stunter , or corner carver no no no to tomahawks colored tires they are just for stunners and flossers , stylin and profilin...lol
r_meintel 09-12-2004, 05:00 PM I like the Metzler M-1s.
wickmaster 09-12-2004, 06:40 PM Man, I rode my old bike last summer from Pittsburgh to Mid-Ohio with a rear tire that had 5, yes that was a number five, plugs AND a nail in it. I ran out of plugs so I had to ride with the nail in it. Had no problems withit though. We were hauling ass all the way out there. But thats me. For you having just got a new bike and being new to the scene, get a new tire.
