16177 05-03-2007, 07:19 PM So I am getting ready to start doing some track days. First one is going to be late June. I am hoping to be able to do at least a couple of track days a year. I am looking at some boots that would be good. I already have a pair of Sidi Champion Airs that I really like for daily riding.
The two boots I am looking at are the Alpinestar S-MXR and the Sidi Vertigo Air. The Sidi's seem to be a more track specific boot. But the Astar looks like it could be worn easily on a daily basis. Both are about the same price. I really like Sidi, but I know that Astar is quality stuff as well.
Any thoughts?
scott2t2 05-03-2007, 07:22 PM I have two pairs of SIDI's I have the older Vertabra and the newer vertigos. The Vertigo has a lot of adjustemet for calf size. They vent well too. I really like the SIDI's. Very comfortable. If I were to go with A-stars, I would buy the SMX PLUS or the SUPERTECH.
kliffton454 05-03-2007, 07:43 PM I'm really like my Vertigo Airs. Very lite and cool--good air flow. They look better than the made-in-China or Pakistan or wherever the fuck A-stars are made now. I have a pair of old Alpinestar boots (15 years ago) that were made in Italy and I still use them--they still look awesome. Two weeks ago I bought a $375 pair of their track pants (made in China), and the freakin' crotch zipper fell out after one day. I'll never buy their crap again. Especially after that totally GHEY ad on TV with Hayden.:headshake I cut their logos off all the remaining A-star gear I own. I really did. Whew, I feel better now. Yeah, get the Sidis....
16177 05-03-2007, 07:47 PM haha. Yeah, I have been leaning more toward the Sidis. I am really impressed with the Sidis I have now. I am going to be doin my track days in the south (FL mainly), and need good venting.
kliffton454 05-03-2007, 08:03 PM I forgot to say, however, that the Sidi boots are really for the track, not for going for a cruise in the country followed by a hike through the woods--you don't want to walk much in these, and they squeak! But you said you were looking for a track boot. I highly recommend them.
Did I mention how much I think A* SUCKS?
16177 05-03-2007, 08:15 PM I already have the Sidi Champion Airs so i'm not too worried about a daily riding boot thats good for walking around.
Yeah, I think I kinda picked up on your hatred of A star
Thanks for the input.
NESLIDR 05-03-2007, 09:57 PM All my gear is alpinestar and I dont have one single complaint about there equipment! I have the smx plus boots and I love them. After a recent highside I cant say anything bad about them cause it saved my ass:thumbup:
BallHawk3 05-04-2007, 01:14 AM I'm an alpinestar guy. I got the SMX-Plus are great, but I would go on ahead and get the supertechs!
gixxer750girl 05-04-2007, 06:10 AM I've got the SMX Plus boots. I found them a bit stiff at first, so I sat on my bike to find the exact spots that needed some breaking, then wore them around the house for a couple of days to break them in. After I started riding with them, they're awesome. Very well ventilated; I can actually feel the air coming in at the toes & going out at the heels; very cooling. If you're stopped somewhere and walk around in them, they're not bad; just a bit bulky. Me likey.
splymale 05-04-2007, 06:41 AM I also have the SMX-PLUS and I am pretty impressed with them, but like someone said already these boots squeak. I dont know if that's all boots or what the deal is but it's kind of annying sometimes, at least to me. I do like the looks of the Vertigo Air though, pretty sweet!:D
I too have the A* SMX Plus boots. Yep, they squeek, but welcome to the club because ALL SMX Plus boots squeek :P
I crash tested them last month with a 90MPH+ lowside and my feet are perfectly fine. In FACT the boots held up so good they don't even need to be replaced.
Bottom line is, BOTH boots listed are great boots. Go try them on and buy whichever feels the most comfortable.
BallHawk3 05-04-2007, 09:09 AM LoL. All my stuff is alpinestar. Suit is great, gloves and great boots are great. The gp tech gloves are one of the best gloves I've ever had. The smx plus sweak, yea no biggie. WD-40 can fix that.
But yea that hayden commericial had to be the gayest shit I've seen in my life. I'm glad I only had to see it once. It made me want to burn all of my gear.

Please tell me you don't really put WD-40 on your boots.:funny:
All my leather gear squeaks; I don't think the boots make that much of a difference.
Sometimes, just for the $hits and giggles, I'll wear my leathers around work, just to pi$$ everyone off hearing me squeak around all day.:bounce

How do you do that? Surely you wouldnt just spray it on there, do you just use a rag and wipe it around? Please tell!:)

I never really thought that the squeaking was so much of an issue....I mean, if you were gonna wear them in a library or something, I could see trying to get rid of the squeak.....

I don't have A-stars. My girl does ,and the squeek doesn't bother her or me.

It bugs the hell outta me after a while. Mostly when I ride to a friends or something and I go somewhere with him (not on the bike) and I'm squeakin every step. After a while I get tired of hearin it.:)
16177 05-07-2007, 06:56 AM So I went and tried on some boots this weekend. Long story shirt, ended up ordering a pair of the Sidi Vertigo Airs. Part brand loyalty, mostly for the fit. The Alpinestars fit well, but the Sidis were a bit better.
Also went kinda nuts and ordered a pair of Joe Rocket Speedmaster perforated pants (full 360* zipper to my blaster jacket). Looks like I'm all set for the track now. Now I just have to wait til June 23rd to actually get on the track. This is going to be a long month and a half.
