medicmatt 05-09-2007, 11:49 AM So i'm curious what you guys would do in this scenario:
You're cruising on the freeway and come across another biker going the same direction, obviously no one you know, just a random biker. In such cases i like to ride together, even with strangers. You know, safety in numbers or something like that.
Anyhow, cruising along at a pretty high speed, like 110mph or 115, when a CHP bike officer pulls ahead, turns on his lights, and hand signals to pull over. So the stranger riding with you in the lead position acknowledges and pulls over. The CHP officer pulls over too and does not wait for you.
My question: even though the CHP Officer makes no apparent effort to get you too, would you pull over anyway?
How about same exact scenario, but the other rider is a buddy you know and he's getting pulled over?
aznthug22 05-09-2007, 12:01 PM No Way Dude .... Unless He Asked For Me To Pull Over I Would Just Go On With My Merry Business

wonder what the top speed of a poliece bike is?
gsxr71983 05-09-2007, 12:44 PM a good example of this is, i did a wheelie through downtown area, and a cop pulled me over (i was with 4 other people) my friends proceeded straight. i got off, gave the cop my info.......more cops came.......then my buddies came back.......well the cop/cops let me go because my friends came back and didnt try to avoid or run from the situation. it might not work everytime but if you show them they can trust you, they may respect you back..........give a little get a little..........
or there is the one cop that will ticket his own mother.......then you are SOL
gsxr71983 05-09-2007, 12:44 PM my point is, if my buddy is getting pulled over so am i........if it is some random......IDK, i guess it depends on what he was doing, and if i even talked to him, like at a light or something.
Mister Tee 05-09-2007, 12:53 PM I would absolutely not pull over unless specifically directed to, whether or not a buddy was involved. You can always meet up later. Conversely, if I was specifically directed to, I would.
The top speed of police bikes are only slightly slower than that of sport bikes, and both are a lot slower than the speed of radios.
aznthug22 05-09-2007, 01:41 PM I Would Only Pull Over If The Person I Was Riding With Only Had A Permit This Way He Won't Get His Shit Towed Because He's Wit A Liscense Rider ..... Other Than That I Would Keep Going Unless The Cop Told Me To Pull Over .... You Can Always Meet Up Later
LEWNITIC 05-10-2007, 11:30 AM Screw pullin over. Either You or the stranger is takin it for the team. Let it be the one Ya don't know to take the hit.

you might not be able to out run the radio but i can out corner it
jay06gixxer 05-10-2007, 12:49 PM Here's a quote from a best friend of mine,

wonder what the top speed of a poliece bike is?
i think that our bikes would beat a police bike off the line but at high speeds the police bike will hold up..so did my uncles harley when we rode together he passed my buddy (who was riding on 05 750) and beat him in the long run the question really is how fast is the cop willing to go???
gixxergirl 05-10-2007, 04:30 PM oh yeah...i would pull over! for a few reasons #1 i wouldnt be doing 100mph+ on a highway, #2 i'm a licensed and insured motorcyclist so at least th cop knows i'm legit #3 if he did chase me i would never forgive myslef if the worst happened to him and finally because thats just the kind of rider that i am!! my buddy runs from the cops 9 outa 10 times and i always bitch at him but the 1 time he actually pulled over he got out of a ticket with a warning
Funny thing is, this happened while we were riding. A friend of mine was running lead 82 on a 65, the guys in the rear noticed the patrol vehicle parked on the side. Lead rider noticed it too late and it ended up to a stop a mile down the road. Me and my other friend pulled over at the rear of the police vehicle about 1/4 mile, just so the patrol officer doesn't feel threatened. We all turned of the bikes, dismounted, took helmet off and wait it out:cool: Too bad my friend still got a ticket though:headscrat If we ride together and someone gets pulled, over then we all pull over. If we had kept on riding it would only show the type of friends we really are.
There was a group ride that went on about 10 bikers one had an accident and the rest just kept on going:damn: Those are the guys that will leave your ass in a heartbeat to save their own.

I understand your point and I respect that, but the original poster included in his scenario speeds in excess of 100 mph, which is a very expensive ticket, and in some places it can even be considered reckless driving. No point in more than one of you having to deal with that crap. I would not want or expect my riding partner(s) to take bullets just because I'm getting one.

Yeah you got a point but if the police officer only pulled one over and the rest are just waiting for their friend, there is no probable cause for the police officer to even cite you. Unless it was officer dick, he would try to find something on you.

heres an idea...if you arent doing 100 mph on the road then u wont have to worry..take those speeds to the track(just my .02 cents)

Your uncle's harley outran an 05 750 top end? Am I missing something?
Most cops won't bother with you when you run if they have your tag number, if they don't thier buddy a few miles up the road will. More than likely I would ride on unless the cop specifically pointed me out. If he points out one person and everyone pulls over it may intimidate him and make him uneasy. This day in time it's prolly scary as hell to be a cop due to the fact that people will kill you for looking at them, if I only wanted one guy to pull over and 10 of them pulled over it would make me nervous.

Slightly slower to me means around 10-15 mph slower, will they do 170? 160?
Mister Tee 05-11-2007, 01:03 PM Slightly slower to me means around 10-15 mph slower, will they do 170? 160?
A BMW 1150RT tops out at about 150-155 mph, so if you factor in some turning and maneuvering (traffic, not sweeping curves), that brings the differential down pretty close. I'm not claiming that one could spank a gsxr, but they could certainly pace a mediocre rider in typical road conditions. As far as the HD Road King Police version, well, you could probably beat one of those with a tricycle.

True dat - but don't hate on me. I don't know where you are, but on most of I-5 North of LA, you will get rear ended if you go less than 80, and you can go 100+ mph and STILL get passed. My NORMAL commute speed is between 85 and 95, and that's going with the flow of traffic. 100 mph in Cali is no big deal, other than it's just a more expensive ticket. It's sort of like being in the upper tax bracket, the more you make, the more in percentage you have to pay.
It's a tax - a speed tax, and like any other tax, I try to minimize it, but I pay my fair share. I could go on for hours about how I'd restructure the traffic law system but I don't feel like getting in to it.

I can guarantee that unless you're doing pro/am racing or doing trackdays every month that a bike cop will out-ride you. The periodic skills check they have to do every couple of weeks or so makes the MSF look like a cruel joke.
NoviStar 05-15-2007, 11:53 AM cop bikes the bmw 1200r top out at 145 lol asked a cop myself for shits n giggles and the harley 1200 only do 125 so u can smoke some bike cops in even a car,
NoviStar 05-15-2007, 11:55 AM those niggaz couldnt catch me on a bone stock 600 and i weight like buck 90 lol so me on my current 1000 lol rofl with my helmet cam u see a cop in the rear about 10 cars bacck light me up less then 15 seconds u can no longer see his light lol 15 seconds all it takes me to get away
MITSUFINMGR 05-15-2007, 11:58 AM I want to see that it has to b cool :laughingr
AaronJP 05-15-2007, 08:26 PM Me... I would pull over if my buddies or other riders pulled, and same damn thing for a wreck too...
Its crazy some people dont even stop if you get in a bike crash! Its like you should stop because you would want the same for your self. Let you buddy get a ticket & lesson learned and you guys go back to riding.
Now if it was a person I have never seen before then it doesnt affect me.
Me I dont think I would ever try running from the cops, 1) If they ever do catch you (you could wreck), you are in more trouble than where you started!
2) Like I said earlier you could wreck and die, I would take $200 ticket and a couple pts on my license over a wreck! 3) Besides jutst you wrecking, someone else can get into a wreck because of you.

It might make you nervous but all the cops that have pulled me over in the past would be giddy as fuck. They would love the chance to write 10 tickets up. They would probably win the free donut pool at work the next day, and not have to work the rest of the month because they met the "quota" which doesn't exist.
I realize all cops aren't bastards; my dad wasn't, but all others I've met are.

if I had to do this kinda riding for MSF I would have never passed....

I would say that 60% are cock smockers while 20% are decent people and the remaining 20% are good. I won't ever knock a cop for doing what is right but sometimes they get a little excited when it comes to writing tickets and nail you for everything even if it's the smallest infraction. IMO traffic cops are overpaid while the patrolmen are underpaid. The traffic cop writes tickets and busts drunks while the patrol cop gets to arrest drunken idiots with no shirt that just beat the hell out of their old lady.
r.p. 02-750 05-20-2007, 08:47 AM I talked to a cop who said most won't chase past 120mph,'cause they have families to go home to.
Sidez 05-20-2007, 10:15 PM I do not see why you would pull over unless specifically directed to do so... sometimes it will be you... sometimes it will be your friend.... I guess...

Hemi06 06-10-2007, 03:57 PM not everyone in california talks like that...
but on topic.. i was riding with 3 of my other buddies and we all pulled over, dismounted, and sat there. The officer did not feel threatened and let us off with a warning. It was for my friend's plate, it was tucked and the other's plate was stolen (somebody stole his plate). He did not ask me, nor my other friend anything.
M_Easy 06-10-2007, 04:34 PM in that scenario, i would not pull over if my buddy (or especially some random rider riding with me) got pulled, unless i was specifically pointed out to do so. my buddies and i have an agreement specifically for this scenario. if one gets pulled, the other(s) will continue on until 'safe', and pull over and wait. the one who got pulled just calls the ones who went ahead and we meet right back up again. unless you're really crushing it, the cop will typically be 'happy' snagging one of you without effort. cops and crooks alike will usually go for the path of least resistance- in this case, the one who stopped...
someone (aaron i think) mentioned a crash, i'd DEFINITELY stop if one of my buddies, or anyone else, wiped out. no matter what.

I don't know about the rest of you but I really doubt any cop on a BMW or a Harley could outride my ass. Worth a try I guess. Just kidding. I'm not running unless I'm really breakin the law.
On topic, why would you pull over. Even if he gets more cops to catch up with you, you can say you thought he was pulling the other guy over so had no reason to stop.
Mister Tee 06-11-2007, 10:01 AM not everyone in california talks like that...

Yeah he's saying that he would talk a few turns to lose them. What's not to understand?
murdoc92 06-11-2007, 08:43 PM If there is an agreement between riding buddies to just keep going then I would otherwise I would stop as well, if it's some random rider maybe a different story
But if there is an accident I will stop for sure, never letting anyone down like that, I wouldn't want it to happen to me either
