Smokin80 06-22-2007, 08:03 AM Well. I got balance point on my second gear stand ups last night and let me tell you that was the coolest feeling EVER. pick it up at about 90km and hold it at about 135(around 10k RPM) So fun cause you can just ride it for as long as the road will let you.
BUT, i got effed hard by an undercover homocide detective. At first he was super choked and was telling us to call for a ride cause we were never going to ride again(we as in my and my buddy). I laid it on thick and calmed him down and he came around. I have never had a ticket on my bike in 6 years of riding. Long story short he chatted with us for awhile about not having a place to have fun with the bikes and ended up making us tow our bike home and got a 402 dollar driving carelessly ticket and a 115 dollar ticket for having an improperly displayed plate. He could have fined me 2000 bucks...as long as he doesnt take my bike away im happy.
The tow was 90 bucks each too....stupid part is we just got back on and hit the highway again. When you fall the sooner you get back up the better right???
Happy riding and be safe out there!!!
jdm_turbo_civic 06-22-2007, 08:21 AM damn that sucks.where was the detective at when he busted you guys?
illz302 06-22-2007, 08:22 AM Thats crazy but yes the sooner the better. I hope you dont get stopped by him again that would be really bad!!! All in all glad to hear you got off without him impounding your ride.
dubplaya 06-22-2007, 08:38 AM damn that sux, but you're really lucky
they woulda taken your bike for that where i live...that is if you can find your way around all the damn cars
Smokin80 06-22-2007, 08:56 AM damn that sucks.where was the detective at when he busted you guys?
He was parked down a side road and i has just set down a second gear stand up....so i was ripping to say the least.
I realllly had to butter him to get him to not take our bikes away. I have no idea why he had us towed. We got towed home..dropped thebikes in the alley behind the house and went out for another rip...lotta good that did.
But meh...im still stoked on getting balance point. SOOOOO FUUUNNN

Staggered or non-staggered? How long did it take you to achieve BP?
Smokin80 06-22-2007, 09:04 AM Staggered or non-staggered? How long did it take you to achieve BP?
maybe a stupid question but what do you mean by staggared??
Well i have been riding for 5 years...but ive only had the k7 for 2 months and i got balance point last night..soo 2 months really cause i never did much for wheelies on my old ZX7.
Im getting closer to balance point on the sitdowns in 2nd but its not as comfortable for me yet as the standups are.
splymale 06-22-2007, 09:08 AM SWEET!! I'm working on BP as well, close but not there yet! I can only imagine! Sucks for the tickets though.:headshake
Murph 06-22-2007, 09:17 AM Staggered, means putting the left foot on the left passenger peg and your right foot stays in the same place. Non-Staggered means your feet are positioned on the front pegs, when doing a standup.

HAH oh ok..no i had both feet on front pegs. Want to start learning with left on rear peg
Murph 06-22-2007, 09:28 AM Coo, you must have not been really into the wheelies when you first started off learning how to ride. I guess since you got the 1000, the opportunities are endless haha. I think the way that you're doing is quite fine, that's what I do. I tried staggered before but it just seemed so weird and it seems like there was less control of the bike, but they say you can reach BP faster with the Staggered. Keep at it and I want some pics, dont worry about the tickets haha, Ive gotten two already, you have to pay to play haha.
Smokin80 06-22-2007, 09:41 AM Yeah i wasnt too into wheelies back then......i was living in British columbia and i carved a lot of corners there and that kept me entertained but now i have no corners so wheelies are the name of the game.
And yes..you do have to pay to play. Im pretty happy actually..ive been RIPPIN for like 5 years and only got 1 speeding ticket and these tickets last night.

Smokin80 06-22-2007, 12:54 PM AHH..just curious. Wondered if you knew how hard im going to get effed on insurance in alberta....but since you live in the states.....
Cheers
tsenfw 06-22-2007, 11:59 PM Trying to learn standups.
I know you guys ride liter bikes, but how did you first learn standups? Did you roll on or clutch?
I've been trying roll ons staggered and not staggered, the wheel comes up pretty high with a bounce but won't stay up. I'm thinking I should clutch it because it's a 600, but I'm kinda scared because I never clutched a standup.
Murph 06-23-2007, 07:11 AM I dont ride a 1000, i have an 05 ninja 636, and I just bounce and do a power roll on from 55-60 mph, it should come up with no problems.
ScooterRash 06-23-2007, 07:33 AM Ticket sucks dude! I guess it's a biproduct of mastering the illusive wheelie?
If you will replace those PP's with a better tire, you'll find your wheelies will improve. The race profile of the michelin is not very wheelie friendly. Go to a tire with a street profile, more round than pointed. I find the qualifier not only a better tire but more wheelie friendly.

Interesting...ill try that. I havent ran enough tires to put the same ones back on twice yet. Im going to keep changing untill i find what i like.
