I just got my 2007 GSX-R1000 from Berts 4 weeks ago. I now have about 1,400 miles on her. Yesterday I rode down the 55 and out to Newport. (I live about 10 miles east of Disneyland) Went up the coast through Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Malibu and then up Mulholland Drive. I headed inland through Beverly Hills and Sunset Strip and took a scenic ride back home. I left at 6:30 and got back at 2:30. It was a good ride, about 230 miles.
I'm thinking of heading to Santa Monica and going toward Santa Barbara and on to Salvang. We just moved up here from San Diego and I don't know the area, so where are there good rides?

A huge number of bikes go to 33 at Ojai ever Sunday. Seriously, it's amazing. People come from all around.
As far as the Santa Barbara/Ventura area goes, it's 33 for sure. There are some other sweet canyon roads, but 33 is by far the best. It's around 30 miles of perfect pavement and intese twisties. If you're there at the right time, you'll find tons of us. Not to mention, the scenery is breathtaking. Worth the trip for sure.
If you want to head further north, checkout 58 (beautiful) or the pacific coast higway (cool, but too much traffic).
33 is everything from all my motorcycle wetdreams combined. Just watch out for the cruzers.
Buelton has some rad pea soup and Solvang is a (dutch? czeck?) tourist town.
I'm from Lompoc, BTW
