ZookPilot26 07-11-2007, 06:58 PM Was thinking about organizing a ride to Vegas from Socal sometime at the end of the summer when it starts to cool down a bit. This is kind of just a feeler thread. Anybody from the SoCal area (LA, San Diego, ect) interested? I figured we could meet at a center point and all cruise up together. Also the option of just meeting there. We can figure out hotels and split rooms in order to save more money to go towards general debauchery. :D
Ride up on a Friday afternoon (everyone can get the day off, or take a half-day), and come back either Sunday night or Monday morning.
Not sure when the desert starts to cool down (below 100)?

My friends did this couple years back. HEre's some advice. If you guys could, ride at night. Have an extra vehicle follow you guys, in case someone runs out of fuel. The only major problem they had was over-heating.
brire6 07-12-2007, 07:48 PM I am down
ZookPilot26 07-16-2007, 09:56 AM Geeez, this has been up for a few days now, and there are only 30 views!?

LOL that's what I'm saying.
n1sniper 07-16-2007, 10:19 AM the thought of ridign in the heat is torturous !! LOL .. Night would be the best & a chase vehicle is a definate must
H0useofz 07-16-2007, 03:19 PM i have a few boys that would be down to do this including my self!as for the heat yes its super hot.Was in vegas this weekend.did not ride.
ZookPilot26 07-16-2007, 03:48 PM Heat doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I'll go out of my way to ride in it to train for MX.
That said, I know everyone else isn't as stupid as myself. Wouldn't mind doing it later in the year when it gets cooler. Wanna see if their is even enough interest at this point. I think at least 10 people and it would be worth the trip
Chase vehicle could easily be arranged.
aacjm 07-16-2007, 08:19 PM Me and my friends thought of the same thing but, I need new tires first. I'll let you know:thumbup:
909GSXR 07-16-2007, 09:10 PM If I got the time, I'm in... +2 on the chase vehicle.... Also what I have done before on overnight bike stays, is rent a 1st floor hotel room, flip the beds against the walls, hang the do not disturb sign, park all the bikes inside the room...
ZookPilot26 07-16-2007, 11:26 PM aacjm, I wouldn't wanna run brand new tires all the way from SoCal to Vegas... talk about a flat spot by the time you get there, haha!
909, that'll work if we stayed somewhere off the strip. Good idea though
Draconius 07-16-2007, 11:55 PM Depends on when...since I get friday's off in August...I might be down :)
Mr. DOBALINA 07-17-2007, 01:36 AM It's just not that great of a motorcycle road (or car road for that matter) IMHO. I head out to Vegas for track stuff about 10 times a year & there are lots of idiot car drivers on that stretch of interstate. For the most part it is a straight ahead road with just some hills, very boring scenary & most of the time during the year it's pretty damn hot. Especially near that giant thermometer you pass by in Baker, Cali. They named that town Baker for a reason folks! I've driven past there a month ago & temps were at 115 degrees at 11:30 AM. What a nice motorcycling experience that would have been! Yeah, I'll stick to rides down the coast any day compared with that B.S.
Traffic on the I 15 East completely sucks ass on Fridays if you pass the 215 interchange any time after 11AM. Then it is a mad rush with lots of "what you do in Vegas stays in Vegas" wannabe SUV racers. You know the ones that watch nascar every weekend & now want to slam their mini tanks off other vehicles to move them out of their way. I have seen some unbelievable crashes on that easily navagated roadway. Why? Because there are lots of complete jerks driving that stretch of road. No thanks. You couldn't pay me enough money to ride a motorcycle down that stretch of interstate much less do it for "fun." Thanks, but no thanks.
khmai_guy 07-17-2007, 07:19 AM Hahaha well said! :laughingr
ZookPilot26 07-17-2007, 08:15 AM Dobalina, well when you put it that way! :laughingr
My original intent was based more on the destination than the actual ride itself. If I were trying to setup a cool ride, it sure as hell wouldn't be to Vegas. I've driven that in my truck on a dozen occasions, and I know it wouldn't be a very fun ride. I just think it would be a good place to have fun with some new people.
If anyone has any other ideas, post up! It's difficult to find any good group rides when you're not in the loop, and the bike meets at local parking lots just aren't cutting it.
n1sniper 07-17-2007, 08:33 AM what if you went the back way .. out thru 29 palms .. past laughlin and up ? well never mind.. still idiot drivers and cows ...

I think if you would to take the back way, that means more gas and less resources. :headscrat
