Track day on June 3. anybody going?
texas motorsport ranchmikeb12 05-11-2005, 10:39 AM Track day on June 3. anybody going? you da man 05-11-2005, 11:31 AM Nope...just did trackdays there on May 2nd & 9th. I will be at Texas World Speedway on the 23rd & 30th though and back to MSR in the middle of June. I usually don't do Friday trackdays due to CMRA races are the very next two days and "A Group" (racer group) is crazy fast and is just too crowded for me. Some of the racers that couldn't get in A Group will spill over into B Group and that leads to a lot of close calls with the newbie B Group riders mixed in with racers. I'll stick with Monday trackdays. Have fun if you go. The paddock area gets crazy packed on Friday trackdays due to early birds using the trackday for practice for race weekend. I'll be there watching when they do sprints since my R6 isn't ready yet. mikeb12 05-11-2005, 01:09 PM I will be there. any suprises on this track I should know about? This will be my first real day of riding in texas. I moved from so-cal last july so feeling a bit rusty. you da man 05-11-2005, 01:34 PM MSR is a very technical track. It can be run in either direction. It has a ton of elevation changes and most turns are off camber to way off camber. In the counter clockwise direction (regular direction) two of the turns are downhill, off camber, decreasing radius, and are blind exits...how's that for a turn. If you ran those same two turns in the clockwise direction they would have blind entries. The "Rattlesnake" section is a really tight double chicane that in either direction starts out entering it uphill and exiting it downhill with off camber exits. The track is slippery in the first session...especially if there is dew on the ground. If in the event of an off track excursion, there is plenty of grass to run off in (it's by far the safest track in that aspect). Overall the facility is top notch except for no covered paddocks so bring an E-Z Up shelter. Limited power outlets so get there early if you have warmers and no generator. The clubhouse (2 story with balcony) and bathroom/showers are very nice. The cool feature of this track is that if you have friends going, spectators can see about 90% of the track from the bleachers by the control tower near the staging area. If Lonestar Trackdays puts on the event they have always had Quiznos cater lunch. | |
