brire6 07-26-2007, 10:28 PM I will see you there. The ride tonight was a great ride.
ZookPilot26 07-26-2007, 11:07 PM Today's ride was def. an experience! See you guys Sunday.
Vengeance 07-27-2007, 12:56 AM Yeah, I love that little power loop. A quick hour jaunt... Once you know the roads better you can really get movin through some of that.
Looks like we will pick up some of the rest of the group for Sunday, hopefully will be a good showing. Either way, I will see you guys there on Sunday...
brire6 07-27-2007, 07:38 AM I just got to remember where that damn pothole was at. Not fun hitting those.
ZookPilot26 07-27-2007, 07:42 AM I just got to remember where that damn pothole was at. Not fun hitting those.
Ha, I remember barely missing those and thinking, "I hope Brian sees that sooner than I did"!
Vengeance 07-27-2007, 10:02 AM We're not going that way, so it won't matter. You probably saw it, then stared at it trying not to hit it, in process making yourself hit it. One of the best things you learn at the track is to "see" things without focusing on them. That way you know they're there but you get right around them.
ZookPilot26 07-28-2007, 05:36 PM AHHH! I'm still gonna try to make the ride tomorrow, but I am HURTING! I helped out at my old job today and put on a corporate jetski event. I pulled my groin, cut my foot DEEP, got some bad sunburn on my back (I had sunblock everywhere else, doh), re-injured my broken toe from March... ah I'll quit bitching. I'll ride as long as my leg can operate the rear brake. I was having trouble today lifting/moving the ball of my feet on and off of the rear brake.
Anyway, I also got another guy to ride with us. He has a '06 GSXR750. Pretty good rider, many years worth of experience and a really responsible guy. Hope to see you guys tomorrow!
brire6 07-28-2007, 08:49 PM I am still showing up. Its still on right?
Vengeance 07-28-2007, 09:28 PM Ride is on .... Cody, the rear brake is for pussies, this is the street, the rear brake is only used on the dirt. You should be 100% front unless you're coming to a stop light / sign!!!
I know where you live you better come or I will come knockin!!!
brire6 07-28-2007, 10:42 PM who needs brakes?
ZookPilot26 07-28-2007, 10:43 PM Alright, I'm in damnit. I' not the flaky type, so I'll just have to suck it up. The "groin muscle" is actually feeling better already. Biggest issue is gonna be the sunburn, but oh well.
By the way, I didn't get hurt riding jetskis around... I kept having to push the 500+ pound MFers on and off the beach for friggin' tourists!
.... anyway, see ya in the AM :arsenal
Vengeance 07-28-2007, 11:25 PM Tourists!!! SHould of made them push their own damn jet skis....
SoCalrider 07-28-2007, 11:58 PM ahhh... this sucks im going to palomar tomorrow. oh well, im sure you cats do this more than once a year right?
Vengeance 07-29-2007, 08:05 AM Yes, we do this alot, almost every weekend, I just don't always post it up. If you join the YahooGroup "socalrider" you can stay up on what we're doing if I'm lazy.
Be safe on the mtn, it's total squidly time of year.
Vengeance 07-29-2007, 02:41 PM Good ride, no crashes, lots of burnt gas, good roads covered. Thanks all for showin up and not actin squidly!
ZookPilot26 07-29-2007, 02:46 PM Man, what a freaking blast. I definitely felt myself getting faster by the end of the ride. Thanks for helping me out last Thursday and today Len, your pointers definitely helped!
brire6 07-29-2007, 03:30 PM yeah I had a blast. I cant wait to actually get to know those roads better so I wont be so scared to go faster. We should do a BBQ sometime after the ride.
Vengeance 07-29-2007, 03:35 PM You guys need to come to the track in Sept for real! You will improve SO MUCH over those 2 days that it will be like 6 months of riding improvements. You reach such a different level of riding on the track it's hard to explain. Best investment you can make in your skills for real!
BBQ sounds good, we used to do that kind of stuff, but haven't lately. We usually get together for the MotoGP races too and have some beers etc...
You guys are both noticably faster after just 2 rides though, soon you'll be torching me like everyone else I'm sure...
If you haven't read this either, check it out, definitely helped me to understand some of the theory behind being smoother which leads to more speed http://pics.redles.net/twistofthewrist2.pdf
brire6 07-29-2007, 07:24 PM I will try to plan on going on september. The hardest part is finding a truck. I might have to check on the prices to rent one. Let me know what you guys plan on doing. I dont want to impose but if you are down I am down to share the cost for gas and lodging. But anyways how about the BBQ next weekend after a ride. I have a huge deck and plenty of parking at my place. Thanks again for the invite.
Vengeance 07-29-2007, 07:34 PM MMMM BBQ. I have a truck, and it's already full. However, my buddy Wally is trying to go and needs a way to get his bike there. If you want to go just sign up and figure out the details later. If you need a way to get the bike hit up the yahoo group and someone will either split a truck with you or something.
Craig rents a Cargo van and puts his bike in the back. I think it's like 40$ a day for it. I rented a V8 Dakota from Enterprise for 40$ a day once before I bought my truck. I think most of us with trucks already have full loads, so that leaves more than a couple of people looking to split a truck/van to get there.
brire6 07-29-2007, 08:36 PM yeah I will be down to rent a truck and split the cost with anyone else that needs to haul a bike.
Vengeance 07-29-2007, 08:45 PM Aiight I'll let Wally know. I was just talking to him a bit ago, he was trying to get me to put a trailer on my Frontier, which I refuse to do b/c you can't do over 55mph legally.
ZookPilot26 07-30-2007, 05:57 PM Been doing some number crunching, and I MIGHT be able to make this track day work.
Costs I am figuring in:
Leathers: I am figuring in around $500 since I can work some deals
Boots: Do I need track-specific boots, or are my Joe Rockets OK?
Gas: $75 for gas and vehicle (Doug and I would bring his cargo van, split gas)
Hotel: Not sure
Track fees: Pretty sure it is $320 total?
What am I missing?
Things that would really help make my decision:
#1 Someone has a spare set of super small leathers that I can borrow
#2 Len steps up and offers to pay my track fees, and donate roughly $700 extra dollars to my cause
#3 Chuck steps up and offers to pay my track fees, and donate roughly $700 extra dollars to my cause
#4 Brian offers to pay for my entire weekend
Any of the above would really help.
Issue I'm facing right now:
Debt > Income
...your thoughts?

My thoughts are go to the freakin track!!!! This will be an EPIC weekend, and I guarantee you will want to cry when we invite you to the video party after we get back, and you see the craziness that is the weekend you missed
So on to the other issues... Here is an excerpt from ti2tt.com and their Tech Inspection section ... ref: http://ti2tt.com/?q=node/25

Over the ankle motorcycle specific boots.

RIDER CHECKLIST
Valid Motorcycle License
Current Health Insurance
Bike Key
Leathers *RENTALS AVAILABLE*
You can also meander on over to Chuck's garage and try on one of his 10 suits... From the looks of it any over the ankle motorcycle boots are legal, racing boots obviously more desirable in the event of a crash.
Costs are as follows:
1) 2 Days on track @ 165$ per (group discounted price we have going) - $330
2) 700 Miles of Gas for the Van ... Whatever that would equal in 1/2
3) Gas for the bike ... approx 5 gallon per day
4) Hotel - 60$ / night usually split in 1/2 (Saddle West Casino - rate for ti2tt)
5) Food for trip ~ 50$, up to $90 if you do the Mad Greek
6) Tires, you will need them anyway, and you need new for the track. First track day, advisable to run Pilot Power, Pilot Power 2CT, or Dunlop Qualifiers... ~220-275ish + mount and balance from Lee's another 70$ (This cost is only applicable because you have to buy before, but you need them anyway.)
7) Canyon Dancer .. You can borrow mine... Tie Dows(Ratchet), Bungeeeee!
8) Leathers ( see above, possible to borrow, rent etc...)
9) Water Wetter - 9$
10) Optional Items: Cooler, Camping Chairs(Foldable), EZ up (must have or be under someone else's), Plexus, Rags, Tools, Tire Pressure Gauge(can find there), Pictures from track day, misc expenses..
Pretty much a track weekend in Pahrump will cost you about 850$ up front if you count the cost of tires into the track "purchase". HOWEVER, the money spent will pay full dividend in extreme riding skill increase and confidence. Not to mention the track is just about the most fun thing you can do hands down. I feel like a little kid of 8 years old riding my favorite ride @ Disney World over and over and over and over and over ... well you get the idea.
Vengeance 07-30-2007, 07:10 PM Don't let me push you though man. If you can't afford it that's just how it is, the track will not go away. WOuldn't want to get you all hyped then you go broke for it, wipe out and hate me forever...

Yea, but man have you made it tempting. I like the idea of being able to go, and still having the option to hate you after the fact if I go broke and/or wipe out
I'm gonna look into gear rental/borrowing, and make my decision pretty soon. I've got plenty of credit that I could use, but I'm trying to keep a financial 'safety net' (see: liquid assets) with all of my new financial obligations (mortgage, gsxr being the big ones) Then again, a track day does sound more appealing than paying my mortgage... sounds a helluva lot more fun actually :D
Oh yea, I assume it wouldn't be a prob. that this would be my first track day? I was planning on doing the school in August, and I'd def. have to scratch that in favor of this weekend if I choose to do it.
Vengeance 07-30-2007, 07:45 PM Hard to say... The pace in C group was pretty laid back when I went to this track the first time. However I had 1 day of SuperBike school and one day of CLASS under my belt. ALso though I was terrible for a long time on the bike and you are much more natural / skilled just from your dirt bike experience.
You will probably need to learn to lean off the bike / watch some racing, because you really need to get that down to go fast around the track. You can go fast without dragging knee, but you do need to lean off the bike or to the side to acheive speed and lean safely. You can start doing this on the street though to some degree.
Ti2TT doesn't care that its your first time on a track, in fact they will have rider coaches to work with each session if you like. The people are really nice and give great advice. I'm actually going to get my bike tuned Thurs. by the guy who helped me last time I was there.
Either way, there will be more Rump days. It's my favorite track and I always push to get out there when there's days. Making the trip isn't life or death, but I doubt you will regret it unless you crash on the first day before lunch or something :infrandom
brire6 07-30-2007, 07:47 PM I have been researching suits for a while. There is a company in florida that sells some pretty nice leathers on ebay for 300 dollars. I havent heard anything bad about them at all. I just bought my 2 piece from cycle gear though. I have to get the pants custom tailered though because all the ones i tried on are too long so I am going to have someone take about 2 inches out of the thigh but it shouldnt be too hard to do since there is a seam there they can just cut and restitch. Overall I paid 400 dollars because they actually have alot on sale right now. Frank Thomas is the brand of all there stuff and they gaurantee it so if you have a problem with your leathers you can take them back and they will fix them for you. I know this sounds bad but have you ever though about looking into leathers for girls? Just get them all black and it shouldnt be a big deal and any chance you got room in the van for another bike to help cut cost?
Here is the link to the leathers I saw on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220132609492&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012
Vengeance 07-30-2007, 07:57 PM Frank Thomas is pretty good, that's all that Craig wears... You really have to take out 2" from the legs??? Are you sure, I've never heard of that, aren't you just about as tall as me?
I would suggest putting them on and getting on the bike in riding position see if the bend makes them fit any better.

I think that 850 is on the low end but  :damn:  it sucks being broke
but as soon as some real $$$ comes my way I am in. Hopefully November

If you plan your tire wear around your track days you totally eliminate that cost from the equation. All a track day does is make getting a highway strip a lot harder...
Then you're closer to 500 for the weekend.
If you have the investment money, you just get a 2nd set of wheels for the track...
brire6 07-30-2007, 10:04 PM Frank Thomas is pretty good, that's all that Craig wears... You really have to take out 2" from the legs??? Are you sure, I've never heard of that, aren't you just about as tall as me?

Yeah I got in the riding position and everything and they fit fairly ok but not as good as I want them to fit and unfortunately I have short legs.
Vengeance 07-30-2007, 10:30 PM Ahh do it up then... Wonder how much they'll charge for that, they wanted to charge Brandon 100$ to install a new zipper on his FT jacket. SOmething about curing the leather and blah blah blah.
