http://www.11alive.com/video/player.aspx?aid=77743&bw Six law enforcement agencies hit the streets Sunday to crack down on reckless motorcycle drivers in what is being dubbed “Operation Fast and Furious,” as fast motorcycles are making drivers furious. Police said some riders are turning Atlanta’s highways into their own personal speedways. “You see motorcyclists that are going in excess of 100, 110, 120, 140 miles per hour,” said Bob Dallas with the Governor’s Office for Highway Safety. “It’s dangerous to themselves, it’s dangerous to everybody around them.” The operation started with a briefing at a south Atlanta police precinct, and during that briefing there was a motorcycle fatality, Atlanta’s third in two weeks. Chasing two wheels while on four have some disadvantages. Motorcyclists on the run can accelerate faster and maneuver easier. “This is not just one jurisdiction’s problem,” said Sgt. R.P. Miniatis, of the Atlanta Police Department. “This is a metro-wide problem.” The agencies teamed up on the ground and in the air to make sure any run from the law is a short one. “Unfortunately as part of our business in law enforcement, people are going to run,” said Trooper Larry Schnall with the Georgia State Patrol. Riders have also gotten elusive in avoiding those required tags that help police identify individual motorcycles. In Sunday’s sweep, some were pulled over and ticketed. Police said they are not targeting all motorcyclists, just the fast and the furious.

Nothing really all that new. Except introducting helicopters and shit into the deal. Hell, Florida has a law that I think kinda works well, if the motorcycle runs thats it, the cops cant chase him (too many cops have died from chasing bikers) BUT if the cop gets the bike's plate # they can literally pick it up out of his garage and its now theirs.

That happened to a guy here but it didn't stick! He had let a guy that wanted to buy his bike test drive it and the guy got chased and didn't tell him about it! He didn't know the guys name he just held his bike & licence until he got back with his bike. When the guy got back he just said that "No I don't think that I will buy it" They could never make that stick. They couldn't tell who it was because they never saw the persons face.

The ones riding like idiots deserve to be caught and punished, I just hope the cops don't turn on all the other riders because of those few jackasses.

The ones riding like idiots deserve to be caught and punished, I just hope the cops don't turn on all the other riders because of those few jackasses. unfortunately there aren't only a ''few'' of them.. especially in the ATL.. so again, unfortunately, the cops act accordingly.. meaning they do profile ALL motorcycles and it's getting worse everyday... The fuel to this fire is the amount of revenue being generated from ticket fines, probation fees, and everything else.. It is so large that law enforcement will continue to evolve with their ''endless'' money supply and not all, but most riders will suffer the consequences..

Funny that the show Superbikes on SpeedTV featured a "club" (if you want to call them that with their little black vests) in Atlanta that "blasts" the loops and interstates around the city. Jason Britton even went with them on one of their little escapades around the city at very high speed. Just adding fuel to the fire and that episode was one of their first shows and that's what turned me off about the show. Some of the show is good but the motorcycle clubs they show on there are showing some highly illegal, dangerous, and squidly stuff. I wish I could be on a police equipped sportbike to catch riders like this...I would do it for free on the weekends. Hell, all you would need is a GSXR750 with the right rider and 99% of the guys running from the cops would get caught. No average rider would try to top out a 1k or Busa in traffic...too scared and under skilled.

I just meant he openly admitted the reason the cops are such pricks towards sportbikes in Atlanta.. on national tv...:headshake

Here in Lincoln, Nebraska of all places the state patrol bought a helicopter and now they spot light bikes every weekend. They basically have all of us in the system with our picture and pic of our bike..HA

Yep...it's pretty exciting riding around the city and seeing the helicopter spot lighting people. Some idiot kid pulled a wheelie past a state P....he got away. Then the neighbors called him in b/c he came flying into the neighborhood. State P was then there to take him in...LMFAO. OWNDE

Cops for the most part hate crotch rocket drivers. I have a good friend who is a state cop and although he dont, many of his friends pick on the race bikes. For instance he said if a cruiser has there license plate tucked under the rear fender and is hard to see, they usually let it go.... Sport bike rider, Instant Ticket. He's also told me before how they will usually wright any ticket that will put points on the sport bike drivers license. Which in turn will raise there insurance and hopefully make it to where they cant afford to pay the insurance to drive the bike. It will probably only be a matter of time before we adopt some law like France, where the bike is limited to just a tad over a 100 horsepower or something in that range. Its only a matter of time. These bikes are getting faster and faster. And more and more people are getting killed on them. Not to mention in the 13 years I have been ridin, the sheer amount of squid sightings have went up 10 fold.

I saw that episode. They would fly by really fast on a freeway. Like I am suppose to be impressed by that. I think they should focus more on track days where there is true riding skill.

as usual some people dont know th@ the # 1 rule n all things "wrong" is DONT GET CAUGHT :bounce pretty much the best advice I've seen so far... We all know the laws even though we like to stretch their limits... Either way... it all relates back to the ol sayin..''If a tree falls in the forest, and no one's around to see it.. does it make a sound??'' translation : If I do a 2 mile standup on the highway and there aren't any cops around to see me... is it illegal? nah on the other hand, I don't get mad at the cops when they catch me red handed..
