CTK6GSXR600 09-14-2007, 05:39 AM Fn cop gave me a ticket last night in Shelton for my license plate not being lit. $75 fine and he said it is a moving violation. Hearing that makes me worried that my insurance is now going to go up, which to me if it does, is not fair. I am a safe rider, actually a pretty slow rider for the most part. Anyhow, I went out to Shelton last night to meet my friend to go for a ride. We usually meet at this one spot, get something to drink, check out the scenery, and then head to New Haven. We normally get to park right out front, but last night was busier than others, spots were not readily available. So I pass the bar and pull to the next light in front of me.. right behind a cop. I put my blinker on to turn right and then he see this, so he puts his blinker on. There are two places for me to go when I turn right. I can cross this bridge right there, or go right next to it to circle the block which I planned on so I can find another spot to park. After the cop sees me not follow him over the bridge, he gets off the other side and crosses under the bridge and follows me. I pull back out to the main road, obeying all traffic signals etc, and the prick pulls me over. Obviously as soon as he saw me behind him, he already had it made up in his mind to pull me over. Prick could have just said fix it and go home. Now I know why alot of people run from the cops.

Wow your state laws must suck... I've never heard of that being a moving violation. I've been pulled over for expired tags, brake/headlight/turnsignal being out, no plate light and none of those have ever been a moving violation.

Wrong person to qoute. Also you and I both know certain other brands that I won't name have numerous DOT vilolations from the factory that only get worse with supposidly "DOT" approved mods.
Also, it being a moving violation is just asinine.
I'd also like to point out that even if ALL motorcycle riders started following EVERY traffic law we'd still be targetted because of our reputation. Not for stunting and crap like that, but the reputation motorcycles had first thanks to jackass clubs like the hells angles and followed through with ruff riders among many others I don't feel like taking the time to name.
Now I know why alot of people run from the cops.

See the bike in my avatar? Notice where the plate is? It is in the legal location, where it is lit up at night.
I've never been pulled over for anything other than speeding.
If you want to put your tag on the swingarm, vertically, or way up in front of the wheel, or in some other way violate the equipment laws, you're giving them an excuse to pull you over. Don't whine about it when a cop pulls you over for it.
Man up guys. Take responsibility for your own actions.

Don't ask stupid questions like that. Of course I break the speed limit. On the back roads...limit is 55. I do 60-65, freeway limit is 70, I do 75-80....like all the other normal people. My bike never sees 70+ on the street. Not since I found out you can do track days and ride as hard and as fast as your abilities let you......so call B.S. if you want. I'm also 40 yrs old and not a 20 something retarded, immature, buck wild idiot. This is the olny time I have ever been stopped by a cop...at a insurance/lic. check roadblock. That's me on the far left in full gear on a summer day 100+ degrees. For you squids....that's what gearing up looks like...

its not a stupid question because if your philosophy is true it is stupid people like you that speed that get the rest of us in trouble. You may not be doubling the speed limit or stunting but your still speeding and that pisses cops off too.

I guess I had more common sense than most of the young jerk-offs these days. I was raised around and built fast cars/bikes when I was young. My dad taught me to respect what a fast machine could do. I guess I was lucky in that respect.

Zenith 09-15-2007, 01:36 PM Cops are dicks though. I go with the flow of traffic when I'm in my car or not on a back road I know very well. I was pulled over on the highway doing this. I was the ONLY person who maintained following distance, didn't swerve or do other stupid shit and had outs incase someone cut me off or something else happened. I went home the rest of the way going the speed limit after I go the ticket, I was almost killed 3 times in the two miles it took to get off the highway from people running up my ass and cutting me off. Went to court, told the judge I was being safe by going with the flow of traffic. He said speeding was NEVER safe then I told him what happened when I went the speed limit. He stared at me for a minute, one of those dumbfounded I don't know what to say stares then told the clerk my fine and told me to get out. This was doing 72 (which EVERYONE was doing) on a six lane highway that some jackass though would be funny to make 55. Typical highway to, relatively straight without obstructions, good view, clear day, etc, etc.

In some cases....yes. But in most, we are a guilty by association. And why? Because of the guys that run and speed, and stunt, drag knee,etc...
CTK6GSXR600 09-18-2007, 10:35 AM Wow, didnt expect to see all of this going back and forth stuff.
My plate is actually visible, but it is not lit. I was more ticked off of the fact of how bad he went out of his way to get behind me initially when her first saw me, I was behind him. The ticket is one thing, the fact that he went through the trouble to cross a bridge and turn around after me is another thing, whether I was right or wrong. Also my plate, where it is, is still very visible.
I also checked with a cop who is on my softball team. He told me it is not a moving violation and that the cop who gave me the ticket was probably telling that in attempts to get me to not fight the ticket, which I am going to do, at the advice of the guy on my team, and my cousin, who is also a cop.
Lastly, most cops are dicks. Whether on a bike or not, my dad and I could be out in my moms 67 GTO, or out in my brothers WS6, both cars completely stock, they still try to bust chops, and that is driving very slow and carefully with them.
Oh, one last thing. Driving illegal, yea 99% of the time. I have only gone fast on the highway, and I have chicken strips on my tire. I ride within my limits and completely happy with that. :)
Engloid 09-18-2007, 04:38 PM My plate is actually visible, but it is not lit.... Also my plate, where it is, is still very visible.
Do keep in mind that there's usually more to the laws and it must be "visible."
In my state, it has to be lit, horizontal, at the rear of the bike (that means at the back end, not on the back half), and has to be mounted such that if one fastener comes loose, it can't swing down within 12" of the road.

where and how exactly do you have it mounted? got any pics? im just curious considering I got pinched for having an illegal license plate mount not too long ago.
CTK6GSXR600 09-24-2007, 08:48 AM I do not have any pics of mine, but here is how it is.
I have a bracket that bolts up under the top rear peg bolts. The brack is angled so that the plate is visible. I will try to get a pic of it asap. Until then, here is a link to ebay to show the bracket.

When you are sitting in a car behind the bike, you can definitely see the plate. Mine is not lit, and I am looking into getting a custom light, however I am not changing how my plate is.
Funny, I was in Shelton the other day on my bike. I pass the same cop who pulled me over, and he gets ride behind me again. I am thinking, "not again!". Guy rode my but in a 25 for about 10 minutes. He didnt pull me over though.

yeah i was running a similar setup and i felt that the plate was legible from behind. it was also lit pretty well, but i was pulled over during daylight so that isnt really relevant. i think that some cops just have a problem with the mount way in there under the tail even when you know they can read it. the cop that bagged me was a statie who drives an unmarked dodge charger r/t. he swore up and down that the only reason i mounted the plate where i did was so that it was hidden from cops when i tried to run from them.:laughingr what a crock of shit. i'm done playing games with these clowns. I've already gone back to a rear mounted plate because I don't have time to deal with getting pulled over for dumb shit.
CTK6GSXR600 09-25-2007, 07:42 AM I really like where I have my plate. I am going to light it up the best I can and avoid cops the best I can. If I get pulled over again for it, then I will make the change. I sent my ticket in not guilty. Hopefully it will get thrown out. I really do not see the big deal about the plate as I definitely do not, and would not run from the cops, plus I ride like a b*tch half the time anyway. I am pushing 30, so I am always thinking about what could happen if I screw around on my bike. I do not heal from injuries like I used to, plus I think work is sick of me getting hurt and working from home alot hahahahaha
xxreb6xx 10-08-2007, 05:07 PM man i got pulled over for accelerate to fast from a red light. the speed limit was 45 i wasnt even going 30!! $129 ticket, and cuz im only 19 im going to lose my fucking licence for some stoopid ass shit...... Kingston NH cops suck..... so if ur ever in Kingston go really slow they look for riders
BallHawk3 10-08-2007, 07:04 PM I'm pretty sure in EVERY state, license plate is a correctable violation. And it is NOT a moving violation no matter what the cops says.
I dunno why he told you $75, he doesn't know, thats what the court deciedes. Don't sweat it, most likely its a fix it ticket and like a $15 processing fee, its not going to effect your insurance unless he did give you a moving violation ticket like speed.
Just make sure when you goto court you point this all out. Or you can always call the station and ask. Make sure you report that cop.
Cops do it all the time, they mark turn signal tickets as non-correctable which they are. Just another of their scare tatics and abuse of their powers.
BallHawk3 10-08-2007, 07:15 PM Why is it that most of the track/street junkies dont have many problems with the police yet 90% of the stunters and drag racers, seem to have a sense of being picked on all the time................:headscrat
thats cause your ass is riding on the track with no police presence or getting tickets, while someone like puts over 15k miles a year.
I still get tickets. Everytime I get a ticket and a cop tells me I'm going to end up on a car hood, I laugh and go put another 15k miles and wait for him to pull me over the next time so he can tell me the same thing.
I swear if they didn't have that badge, I'd sock him the face. You don't see me telling him to quit your job, cause your gonna get shot in the face one day when pulling over a drunk driver.
I've said it before, speed limits are posted lower than the actually flow of traffic for a reason. And a fool would be riding with the flow of traffic. Like i've said, if cars are passing you on the road, then your ass is doing something wrong.
Don't forget, its the cops job to enforce the law, not interpert it. He doesn't know right from wrong, only just that is the law. It's a bitch getting a ticket for "speeding" on the freeway one day when you were going with the flow of traffic, and you argued and argued with the cop and he said never go faster than the speed limit. Then you try that the next day so now your going 20mph slower than everyone else and get pulled over this time for going too slow. Haha. Enforcement my ass.

All this brings to mind whem i took my MSF, its was like 3days of Sturgis on the the east coast. 99.9% harley crowd (i was the 0.1%). A general conversation turn into in all out sportbike bashing. One of the instructors even said: "ALL" sportbike riders give "REAL" bikers a bad name (exact words)...I was like WTF "ALL", bad bikers giver bikers a bad name!!! Sportbikers arent the ones with the 1% patches. He than begin to tell of his long time LEO friend (of course one of harley's sheep) & how he pulls every sportbike over for anything. What gets me the most is the following day the "brotherhood" of 2 wheels and how Harley owners get a bad rap just for being on a harley without people even knowing them.
Me = :headscrat
I said without even thinking: werent you the one judging "ALL" sportbikers yesterday? Didnt really want to get inot with him, i just wanted to pass the class, which i did :bounce. He was a good guy other than those remarks.
The damge is done people. No way to repair our image just dont make it worst.
gsxr6k6 11-02-2007, 09:34 AM Cops are funny little creatures. I love when they say that a persons license plate is in a certain position its because they run from them. Like (your license plate is far back because you run from the popo) well lets see, you're telling me this so guess what, if it was there so I could run from the popo, you and me wouldn't be having this conversation right now. And a cop told me once he would have rammed me off the road if i ran. I was like... umm... u pulled me over for... nothing, what was I suppose to run for?
KevinA 11-05-2007, 12:03 PM the shit never ends
On my way to school the other day there was a cop sitting under an underpass. As i drove by, i thought nothing of it because i was going the speed limit. I have to move my arm a bit to see in my mirrors because the elbow pads on my jacket stick out a bit, so I didn't see him behind me initially. I get off the offramp and take a look and there he is riding right up my fucking ass. The ramp is long and slows to 40mph, so I'm forced to slow to a crawl, as he continues to ride up my ass. I come to the light, take a left when it turns green and he continues to follow me. I take a right towards my school and he is still behind me. I take a left into school and he keeps going, I can't see why a statie who was likely running radar on the side of the highway would have any business following someone on a bike who is doing the speed limit.
I posted here a couple months ago about how I was pinched for my license plate location. Well i have since relocated it, so this guy had nothing on me. The bike is stock otherwise. He was just waiting for me to fuck up or something and thats some bullshit.
BEAVER SNIFFER 11-05-2007, 06:02 PM I can't believe that no one saw the bigger violation here. The officer pulled him over without probable cause. The thread starter said he pulled up behind the officer, and then the officer turns around to pull him over to cite the rider for something the officer had no way of seeing. And supposing the officer did say he saw the violation after he got behind the thread starter, it doesn't explain plausibly why the officer turned around in the first place.
CTK6GSXR600 11-06-2007, 05:33 AM Yea Beaver Sniffer! Thanks for the support. I understand being a cop is a tough and respectable job, when they are doing things that are keeping their respective towns, highways, etc safe. When they bust balls like they have done to me and many other riders, that is when I cannot stand them.

culsean 09-27-2009, 10:39 PM Being a Police Officer I find it kinda funny what some people say about cops... Honestly almost half of my force rides bikes and have some preyty sick ones too... There are some cops out there that "aren't the nicest" but you can use the same thing half of you are saying about riders as you can about cops... Dont let a bad apple ruin the whole bunch... There are ALOT of people out there riding bikes illegally, and Im not talking equipment, Im talking no insurance no registration no license/suspended license... And they run because of it... We do our jobs just like everyone else, people just think of us in the worst way because were usually there giving a ticket, but what about when were there after you crash getting the amlbulance there getting you o n the way to the hospital??? Everyone looks at the "bad" cops do and never the good.... Try and open your eyes people, I dont wanna hear cries about being picked on....

blacknight 12-11-2009, 01:48 PM Personally, I don't think it's a moving violation.
Just like driving without your seatbelt on.
It's not a moving violation. But hey, this is in Jersey
Personally, I've been riding Since September of 08 and yeah, I've been pulled over a couple of times, but I've never been given a ticket.
Probably because I'm much older than the average sportbike rider (37) and most cops who pull over a SB rider assumes he's under 30 and is probably gonna screw with him, depending on the reason for the pull over.
Now, since I have a clean driving record (0 points) and I am licensed to ride a bike, that helps me out a little. Also I try to be friendly with the officer and joke with him like...R U suprised I pulled over or stuff like....I knew I should have pulled out the harley instead of the gixxer.
Stuff to make him smile and be at ease with the pull over.
You'll be suprised how the tension will be lessened.
Let's be honest, You'll be suprised how many bike riders DO NOT have motorcycle license or endorsement on their current license and you'll be suprised how many SB riders have 3 or more points on their license.
Basically, it's best to be as legal as possible as that may help you in the end.
I know some people who have no (expired) insurance, no registration and a riders PERMIT and gets upset when they get pulled over
NOW LET ME SAY THIS.
If you're riding like a total asshat, weaving in and out of traffic, doing triple the speed limit in a residential area and so forth, don't expect to get off with a warning
EDWIN PIZARRO 12-13-2009, 11:31 AM My brother is been on job for 15 years and he also rides being a cop is fucked up most of his fellow fucked up colleages have no clue he rides , all the stories I hear from some one who on the job is amazing like at the start of thier shift they make it a point to get as many bikes off the streets As they can. I my self got stop and harrass by these pigs I was ligit and they kept me for 20 minutes and found nothing but I still got a ticket for riding with my visor open in the up position I beat the tickett cuz the pig stop me and was behind me the whole time ticket Was dismiss. And that shit about bad apples spoils it no it does not if you get stop and did nothing wrong and is ligit then why can't cops keep it profesional and keep it moving. If you get stop and is ilelegal then Fuk you too you get what you deserve I can't respect pig s any Moore and my bro being a cop fuk him too
danoman27 12-13-2009, 11:50 AM I bet if you showed up to court this would be easily dismissed or if not you could plead your case and maybe they would changed it from a moving violation.

Huh?
What??
I bet if you showed up to court this would be easily dismissed or if not you could plead your case and maybe they would changed it from a moving violation.
I agree
Dispute the ticket and go to court.
I really don't think it's a moving violation

I did mention that i beat the tickett , meaning the tickett got dismiss in court. dam . lol.
EDWIN PIZARRO 12-14-2009, 09:18 AM Again for those who are completely legal, if you get stop and was doing nothing wrong , why cops still have to be asshats, why can't they keep it moving , All i do is work , when imma not working imma riding , who the hell has time to go to court and fight a tickett that was not well deserve , shit if i commit an infraction then ok , give me five tickets. but why ask why , cuz having family on the job as police officers , they come home and tell me straight out most cops dont like bikes at least in nyc. I can tell you stories of all the fuk up shit cops do to bikes and other shit, probable cause , shit i know cops that if they want to get you on the corner , they would go to a pay phone on the street , call 911 give your discription then pick up the call on the walkie just so they can say they got a call and you fit the discript. I took that bull shit cop exam and pass with hi score and even got a list number , but did not persue becoming a police officer , but its like every thing else i would go as far to say you have good cops but more asshats that good ones .
ps. excuse the miss spelling , :laughingr

Actually, I was referring to the grammer and sentence structure in your post.

I can understand where you're coming from
It's either a 21 year old rookie who thinks he knows everything or a veteran who wants to pull people and screw with them or something.
Personally, I've been ok with the cops.
The only time I've been pulled over is because of the display of my license plate. I have it bolted at the undertail so it's pretty hard to see. YOu can see that there is a plate there, but you can't see the numbers.
Cops who have pulled me over explained to me that they cant see my plate and my response is that I just purchased the bike and starting riding. I give them my insurance and they look at my license and are like...WOW>>> You're licensed to ride and I'm like, yeah, that's the legal way.
Next thing you know, they come back and are like you have no points on your record which is good. just take care of that plate.
I believe it all depends on how you handle you pull over. But remember, if you're doing something illegal, don't get upset if you get pulled over.
EDWIN PIZARRO 12-15-2009, 11:01 AM Hey man whatever floats your boat... Run all you want, but like I said, your the one who gives riders a bad name! Your actually proving me right by what your saying... And you will keep running, but one day sorry to tell ya but your not gonna make it home...
Are you part of the problem or the solution , I have yet to see the bike community and police agency work together. If you can't admit that there is a huge problem btwn cops and bikers than your bias , cuz one thing does not have to do with another , about that police are the first ones to call if there is a problem or a biker goes down , i mean shit if i ever go down i would call my mother , but she does not have the authority , lol , listen man if your a police officer , all i ask is to keep it professional and hey maybe your wanna the good ones , but have you ever wonder almost every biker has had a bad experience with cops , not only the ilegal one's , fuk them they get what they deserve , i be honest when a cop stops me and starts acting stupid i feel like running, i've been riding for 11 years imma not super man , but imma make it home every time !
Like papishampoo mention imma also a witness to how fast you cops and or the bus gets to a bike wreck , they just dont treat bikes wrecks as important as a 60 year old man having a heart attack, thats just the reality of it.
Bikes / Bikers wont be stop , cant be stop we ride for ever no matter what !
blacknight 12-15-2009, 11:12 AM But think about it.
How many sportbikes do you see going tripple the speed limit or people doing wheelies on teh highway.
Hell, I get upset sometimes when I see that crap
I can understand if it were in a controlled area or something (Parking lot, race track) but on a public road, you have to understand why cops would get upset.
OUTINFRONT 12-15-2009, 11:46 AM most copers around were i live leave you alone it is like anything else you got good ones and bad ones but i dont see them as being targeting bikers at least were i live.
blacknight 01-18-2010, 11:16 AM Just like I said. Attitude plays a big part during a pull over.
But remember, if you're wrong, you're wrong.
You shouldn't expect a break or to be let off with a earning. But if you do get one, be grateful.
Just don't expect to get a break when you're doing something wrong
