Norick Abe has been killed in a road accident.
Abe was apparently riding in Kawasaki prefecture of Tokyo, and collided yesterday with a truck doing an illegal U turn on a multi lane urban road.
Abe, one of the best known Japanese racers from the 90s, was 32 years old.
Local media sources say that the collision occurred on a four-lane municipal road, when the driver of the truck made an illegal U-turn, colliding with Abe who was reportedly riding a 500cc maxi-scooter.
Abe was renowned for his 1994 home GP debut, where he impressed team managers with his storming performance, narrowly missing out on victory when he crashed out. His take-no-prisoners riding style made him a fans favourite and Abe blazed a trail which riders like Haga, Yanagawa and Kiyonari all followed.
RIP ABE...
