I'm not a big fan of trucks, because of 99% of ppl who drive them don't use them for their intended purpose other than to inflict much damage to other motorists but I love that truck. And a huge I6 turbo diesel in a toyota, perfection in a picture right there.

I know its a prototype but it appears to be a nightmare waiting to happen due having "medium duty" drive train componants on a dually which should be built for heavy or super duty. 8.0L motor can't be the most fuel efficent motor in the world compared to the already 6.4 and 6.7L motors already out. For 8.0L motor the numbers are very weak to say the least. However, with that said, Toyota has great trucks in the Tundra and Tacoma line. Trucks are the new luxury vehicle, especially the 3/4 ton and 1 ton deisels. The most popular vehicle in the U.S. is a 1/2 ton series truck. I will never own a gas truck ever...gas trucks suck. I love my 07 Dodge 2500 Mega Cab with 5.9L Cummins. I get 18+ miles to the gallon with combination driving and 20+ with only highway. My friend with the 06 Dodge 2500 Mega Cab with Hemi gets about 14-15 miles per gallon highway and about 6-8 miles per gallon pulling his 7,000lb travel trailer. I pulled his trailer and got 14 miles per gallon. Not only the do deisels out perform gas motor in every way (except cost of fuel today) but the motors can last up to 300,000 and 400,000 miles. A gas motor can't even dream of that and be efficent in a fullsize truck. Resale and trade-in value on a deisel is also night and day. You can trade-in deisel trucks in decent shape with 200,000 miles and get $10,000-$13,000 on the trade. Try that with a gas motor truck and you'll get around $1,500-$2,500. I'm done venting...sorry.

production trucks are light duty trucks, even though the companys label them super duty or heavy duty they are still titled light duty, so this truck being built on a medium duty frames means its built on a commercial chassis. I doubt any of this truck will make it into production but its definitely a step in the right direction.

Don't hold your breath, it will be years and you would see it in a SRW application before the dually for sure. I bet when Toy comes with a diesel it will be very effecient both in power and fuel economy. I sure hope its better than my 08 F450 at 6-8 MPG.................... MB

"JO8E 8.0-liter inline six turbodiesel, making around 300 HP and 600 lb.-ft." wow that is so soft. my cummins 5.9 puts out way more than that. toyota needs to stick to makin overpriced trucks and leave the diesel to cummins cause koreamax and power joke (international) are years behind.

Damn dude, you read my mind. I was kinda surprised to see suck low HP and Torque numbers from an 8.0 liter. I'm not sure about the medium duty drive-train. Judging by how Toyotas are built and the fact that most of a heavy duty is rear axle, springs, and frame strength, it might be OK. And the comment about the Hemi. That is a F*** sales pitch. It's not even a real Hemi. Those things are crap.

I have a 06 Tundra crew cab that I love. It doesn't get the best gas mileage but it does get around 17 and 20. It is a little underpowered but I am going to remedy that in January hopefully. So far since I bought it I have loved it. It rides good and pulls my 7x14 enclosed fine. There are better trucks out there and I agree that diesel is the way to go but the new Tundra is probably the best gas burner out right now. My next truck will be a Ford Superduty and definitely a diesel.

I have to say it's nice looking, but as far as engines go, cummins is and most likely always will be on top. plus, I believe they just made the last one even more powerful this year. with a programmer and a turbo upgrade, they fly.

very cool truck i am a total import fan i have a 06 duramax and love it Y????? because its a import  yep the good old american silverado duramax has a import isuzo engine in it wich make 350hp and 650fpt STOCK and the new ones make 365 by 665 and if just buy a chip for one you will get 650hp and 900fpt i have never gone 140+ in a gas engine let alone a diesell ---- was in a 03 duramax GMC were i live everything that is upgraded and or modded isnt cars its trucks and they get used for what they were ment for... if u have a truck that doesnt have four wheel drive it isnt a truck...its a car with a bed duallys are a waste u can go out and buy air boots for your reg truck wich will make it so u have the same weight limit as a dually for around 800bucks wich means.... u dont have to buy 2 extra tires evey couple of years for your stupid dually wich sucks ass in snow toyo tires cost 800 for 4 tires thats 1200dollors for a set for a dually what a waste

Yeah, I think America said the same thing about cars in the 60's:rofl: Thats awesome. I cant wait for these trucks to really get into the full sized market and start changing peoples minds. Toyota seems to put out a lasting product that puts american cars/trucks to shame. The best part about jap vehicles is they drive the same after 200,000 miles as they did the day it rolled out of the factory... if you maintain them correctly. Something the American automakers cant seem to figure out how to do yet. I cant imagine how smooth/quiet/efficient this diesel is going to run being built by Cat and Toyota.

I say we all buy american and support the USA where we live?? What's funny is toyota builds more vehicles in the us than any of the big three. 90% of all toyotas are made here, employing american workers. Ford & chevy have manufacturing plants in canada and mexico. Their cars are are almost all manufactured in another country. Toyota makes the new tundra and sequoia in indiana and texas. Camry and avalon are made in kentucky. Tacoma, 4runner and corollas are made in california. The only vehicles made in japan are hybrids and thats because they want a higher standard of quality control. So in summary I feel very patriotic employing more americans with my purchase of many toyotas. You can't beat there build quality, longevity or resale value. So before you buy your next vehicle research where you money is really going, are you employing paul or pablo?

Keep laughing at them, and watch as they kick butt, as they do in everything else they do. But wait NISSAN who is (UD) is also going to bring a truck out also. Ford, GM, Dodge, watch out, here comes Japan.

yeah the Titan is a nice truck too. they sound mean right out of the factory. That new tundra will be put into production... its been a fact for almost a year. I believe it will be out in 09, but dont quote me. I agree with ford having dirty motors... more spicifically poorly engeneered EVERYTHING! haha. I love the air pumps GM uses to mix in clean air for emmisssions... thats a classic. Never the less everyone has there own opinion but in general I think you will find most agree Toyota puts out an unmatched quality product. This truck should make major waves when it is releaced... then agan people will say they can get a ford/chevy/dodge for half the sticker price... but the toyota holds its value while domestics are worth turd in 3 years.

I think competion resulsts in better products , as for the buy american , my truck was built in Canton Mississippi , so it is as american as it gets , you do not see any Titans being built over seas , and heck if we want to buy american we all need to ditch the GSXRs and buy a nice american sportbike right ??? not that I would not give it a try if they made a competitive product in this country , hell if the Italions can why not us ??
