Mr. DOBALINA 11-07-2007, 07:27 PM Hey guys,
Just wanted to tell you all about a thing that is happening Thanksgiving weekend at the California Speedway in Fontana. Last year Fastrack Riders got together with the Roadracing World guys & the Red Flag fund people & did a fundraiser to benefit injured motorcycle roadracers. What we did was allow AMA Superstock racer Chris Ulrich to take passengers on the back of a specially reinforced GSX-R 1000 (that being the tail section) for laps around the track while we put on a track day that weekend. The minimum donation was $50 & that got you 3 laps around the track with Chris doing pretty damn fast lap times & dragging his knees through turns in the infield. Fastrack Riders helps sign up those who are interested, provides the full leathers, gloves & boots the passengers need & of course the track time to do this.
This type of an activity is very, very rare in these United States as you can imagine so if you ever had the urge or want to show your girlfriend/wife what it is REALLY like to be roadracing & doing it at speed here is your opportunity. Bikes passing you while you are out there & vica versa. And the funds go to a very good cause as well. The link to the article on this at Roadracing World's website is HERE (http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=30709) & the link to some on bike video footage of this 2 up ride stuff shot last year is HERE 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9G1kVY0OPo) at this You Tube link. I will be out at Tech in the AM & then doing the Pregrid stuff that weekend so if you drop on by say hi & take a look at my black & white GSX-R 1000 track bike which will be parked at the pregrid entrance as usual....

ZookPilot26 11-07-2007, 07:50 PM AWESOME! That vid is ridiculous. I would LOVE to take my g/f to do this, but we already have set plans for Thanksgiving, bummer! Well, at least our plans are moto-related (dirtbikes, anyone?) :arsenal
Hope you guys have a good turnout!
n1sniper 11-07-2007, 08:31 PM that is just awesome !! I hope you have agreat turnout
Lyte- 11-08-2007, 08:13 AM OMG im so there! im going to get the boyfriend to video tape it!
Mr. DOBALINA 11-08-2007, 08:28 AM The guy that shot the video that is posted up in that You Tube link, Dan Schaffner will be out there & available to shoot more video as well. There is no "pre-registration" for this so it is done on a first come, first served basis. Of course that means at around 2PM there is a line that forms so you are forewarned to get there a little early if you have some time constraints. Last year I helped a little with putting passengers on the rear of the bike & had to literally peel some off the back of the bike & off of Chris Ulrich after they pulled back into the hotpit lane! Some passengers had no clue what they were in for & had a rather intense experience.

M_Easy 11-08-2007, 08:29 AM Man that's pretty freakin' cool.
Doinks610 11-08-2007, 06:16 PM I just don't know if I trust anyone that much to drag a knee with me on the back. It is definitely cool though
mladinracer 11-09-2007, 07:07 PM I think my wife would shit herself. :laughingr
Mr. DOBALINA 11-09-2007, 09:15 PM Yeah, I can see that happening!
I'm not kidding about the peeling some riders off the back of the bike when they pitted. Some passengers were not responding to verbal commands nor my non verbal cues to let go of the rider now. So I had to grab arms & slowly move them & then pull some passengers off the back of that bike. Some people have no clue how intense it is out there - no, this is not some video game on a big screen T.V. folks!
Get the word out people - this is a pretty damn cool & rare experience & it raises money to help injured motorcycle roadracers out during the holiday season. Given AMA Pro Roadrace manager Morgan Broadhead's rather nasty crash at the end of September out @ Jennings in Florida during a WERA race event it goes to show racers out there need help. FWIW - Morgan spent a month of his life in a medically induced coma due to a massive head injury he sustained in that highside. Some of us WERA guys stepped in & he was transported via medical ambulance to a hospital closer to home this past week. Morgan's "out of network" medical insurance was running out & his medical insurance provider refused to transport him to their hospital for needed treatment. Nice. The fund raised some $15,000 in a few days to pay for this very needed air flight so Morgan who is still in critical condition could get care. This a very, very good cause & it hits home when racers you know well can get help from it when they are in serious need...
Mr. DOBALINA 11-09-2007, 09:59 PM FWIW - Here is the link to the WERA BBS thread dealing with the serious injury Morgan sustained & how they (Morgan's family) arranged the air ambulance service with the Red Flag Fund stepping in. This link takes you to page 13 of the thread where it goes into asking riders/racers to help Morgan get home by donating in his name to the Red Flag fund. Pretty amazing stuff how quickly the community got together for this one. Link is: http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=153289&page=11

Mr. DOBALINA 11-22-2007, 04:31 PM Bump - that's happening this Saturday & Sunday
Tungue 11-22-2007, 04:52 PM Forget the g\f or wife, I'd want to get on the back.
Mr. DOBALINA 11-26-2007, 09:14 PM WOW! No one from this forum came by & checked it out!
Typical Southern California rider stuff. Well over 100,000 riders out in this region & you have an AMA Superbike national taking place in their backyard & not even 10,000 show up for a national championship race event! Not to rub it in your all's faces but that's piss poor peeps. Way more fans (like 4 times as many) show up to a race at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin & that track is smack dab in the middle of no where. People drive for hours on end to attend that race but the 40 minute commute to the track & having to walk around freaks out those "hard core" So. Cali sportbike riders!
:laughingr
Just a word of caution you So Cali folks - if you like AMA racing & think it's cool you had better plop down a little green & make it out to the Cali Speedway this year for the national. Given my connections with the track doing the stuff I do out there for many years it looks like this AMA race will probably be THE last AMA event out there. They are losing so much money on that event as no one shows up they are pretty much convinced it is time to pull the plug on it. There are meetings being held already to try to get things more user friendly out there for the 08' race & to get the word out that the event is happening this year as a last resort. But I know the vast majority of sportbike riders already know it is going on but just need to go shopping or see a movie or go to the Universal City Walk with their girlie, etc. Geez, how embarrassing it is at times to live out here & listen to all the B.S. from the riders who just refuse to support their sport.
FWIW, If you take a look at the infield tunnel entrance at the Cali Speedway you will find the mural of Matt Mladin has been painted over & replaced by a mural of an antique car. Just great.
That's my ranting & raving for the week.
:hmmm:
falcon 11-26-2007, 11:18 PM Damn...if I wasn't stuck in Korea I would have been all over this. Hopefully next year when I'm in Vegas something like this will be going on again(the ride on the back part, not the riders get hurt part) :infrandom
