I am going to be running my first drag race this upcoming tuesday night at the local drag strip. I have been riding awhile but never doing drag racing. I am looking for advice: How long to keep it in first? How many revs to have it up to while waiting for the green? Making sure the front wheel stays planted? Any advice you can give for someone that is ready to start racing is much appreciated!! Any quick tune ups you can suggest also, I am running complete yoshi exhaust system and I have already lowered the bike. I am going to change the plugs and airfilter this weekend- any suggestions on good high perf. plugs?

feather the clutch a lot coming out of the hole. Don't bog it, keep the revs up and shift a little before redline in every gear.

feather the clutch a lot coming out of the hole. Don't bog it, keep the revs up and shift a little before redline in every gear. Agreed -> I usually shift 1k before redline. Watch the light... depending on which one it is If it is a sportsman's light it will look like this Stage 1 (Left) Stage 1 (Right) Stage 2 (Left) Stage 2 (Right) Yellow 1 Yellow 1 Lights 1st Yellow 2 Yellow 2 Lights 2nd Yellow 3 Yellow 3 Lights 3rd <--Start leaving as soon as you see this Green 1 Green 1 If it is a pro-tree... Stage 1 (Left) Stage 1 (Right) Stage 2 (Left) Stage 2 (Right) Yellow 1 Yellow 1 } Yellow 2 Yellow 2 }} These all light at the same time. Leave when Yellow 3 Yellow 3 } you see these turn on. Green 1 Green 1 One thing when leaving on yellow.. if you do it as soon as you see the yellow, you won't redlight (which is a foul). Just watch out and do anticipate it, meaning going before it does actually turn yellow (I've done this enough times). You will notice you will probably be leaving before the other guy who is waiting for the green. Depending on your track and how open they are. If you are going to hit over 120 mph in the quarter mile, you are required to wear leathers or drag pants. You might call before you go and see what their requirements are. Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the advice...I will post later this week how the run went. Oh, after this week I am throwing some new tires on my gsxr, wanting to run a 190 on it, any suggestions on good tires. Thinking about Pirelli but up in the air on what is going to give me that good mix of sticking in the turns but letting me have some fun when I take it out to the drag strip.

I am sure I've said this in all of my threads about tires... Pilot powers! 190/50 will work just fine.

Anyone Know If A 14/47 Sprocket Combo (530mo-ex Chain) Will Be Ok Ran On A 1986 Gsxr Frame? Will There Be Enough Clearance Near The Front?

I'm Working Out The Bugs On The Launches, Or At Least Trying To! I Either Get Bogged Down With Fuel Or I Wheelie Out. My 60' Times Suck So Far. Best 1/4 Was 11.72 @ About 115mph. : (

u have to get a good launch....i never pay much attention to the 60's alot.i mostly look at the 330'..most tracks the 60' beams are only about 2 inches off the ground..and alot of times it will time ur back wheel.as the bike may wheelie slightly....therefor i think the 330 is more important to look at for consistant runs.ive ran faster with a worse 60'...because of it wheeling.
