http://www.motorcycle.com/images/content/Shoot-Out/08_may_literbike_shoot_09.jpg Kids. For every hard-working junior scholar in the world, there's probably four or five little hooligans who prefer to walk on the wild side. You know, the kids who race their Big Wheels down steep hills, poke bee hives, throw rocks at dogs or joy-ride their mom's car at 15. The OEMs are grateful for these kinds of kids, as they are the prime demographic for the quartet of outrageously fast and capable machines assembled here. Does anyone need a bike with an insane power-to-weight ratio that exceeds million-dollar cars? No! But is there a large group of adult-aged kids with a ravenous appetite for adrenaline? Hell, yeah! And so we have a group of bikes in which the weakest of the bunch pumps out 154 horsepower at the rear wheel, all neatly packaged inside wheelbases tighter than 55.7 inches. They are essentially production racebikes, including only a smattering of street equipment to make them road legal. The new CBR looks better in person than in pics, but I am still not a fan of the look. Maybe in time I will get used to it.

You know they got paid off by Honda, when it won both styling and coolness factor...It's one of the ugliest bikes I've ever seen

Trust me I rode both the 08CBR and 08GSXR at buttonwillow and the new cbr is just a freak of nature when it comes to track riding....and the new desing has its benefits trust me you cant judge it until you ride it......just my $.02

I actually like the new CBR. It almost reminds me of the 1098. The Kawi looks like hammer dog shit though. What the hell is up with the turn signals. As for the Suzuki. How many times has it won literbike of the year now......7 times in a row I think. Hell of a run. Look on the brightside. You know the guys at big blue are pissed and are going to do everything within their power to make sure they come out on top. Suzuki may have become somewhat docile within the past few years. Losing is going to do nothing but make our bikes better in the next few years due to hightened R&D. I'm excited about 09'!!!

Initially, I didn't like the new CBR either. The looks are quite eccentric. I remember though, feeling the same way about the looks of the Hayabusa, with its pushed-in looking snout. I doubt that the new CBR will gain the popularity of the 'Busa (time will tell, I guess), but I believe the looks will grow on folks, especially if the performance is as stellar as they say. Afterall, that's how the 'Busa did it too. -My 2 cents... Got change?

So I picked up a sportbike mag yesterday (I don't remember which title) with the cover page of a bunch of liter plus bikes going all out. In the cover article, there were bike reviews with positives and negatives about each of the bikes. Every bike I saw in there had actual cons. Now when I came across the Suzuki 1000, the only cons they came up with were: "1. Last year's styling, 2. Those pipes, and 3. Who wants LESS power?" BWAHAHAHA Suzuki rules Edit: Ah, it was cylce world http://www.cycleworld.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=740

I always liked the cbr but man, that is just plain fugly squared. Just dont look like it belongs on something that goes fast. The best or should I say most tolorable of the bunch to me is the silver with the red but only if i had to own one. Just simply put; not attractive and I think it's gonna hurt thier sales.

The shootout is crap. I owned a CBR 1000 when cycle world said it was light, nimble all that crap. What a beast that thing turned out to be. I'm not a competition hater. After all in the last 4 yrs (after I crashed my GSXR750) I've owned an 04 CBR1000, a gsxr1000 '01, 2- R1's 03, 05. None of them compared to my 750. All I can say is after test driving my friends 08 1000 - Going back to Suzuki.

I don't know what the deal is with reviewers hating on the S-DMS that all the bikes got this year. I think it's actually incredibly responsible of Suzuki. My K8 600 is the 2nd bike I've had (had a 1981 CB750 POS for training wheels), and I rode it the first 2 weeks in C and B (tried A once for fun, and it was scary-fast at the time). I know most people think even a 600 is alot of bike for a n00b, but being able to neuter the bike a little while I was getting used to it was a god-send, and I think that's a pretty good way for a new rider to learn if their dead-set on an R bike. Just my 2 cents.
