Velocity Stacks

Just had a few questions about velocity stacks. 1) Are they worth it? 2) Expected HP gains? (5-7?) 3) Specific brand/site to purchase from? 4) Expected cost? 5) Easy to install as it seems? (no mods necessary?) Looking to get more power out of this beast. It seems like the bike is slow, could be just because I'm use to it by now? I here everyone saying how their tire lifts from acceleration off a corner, this bike never does that. Or something stupid like those little bunny hops at 10 mph. I chop the throttle and the bike does nothing, seems like it bogs. Just wondering... It's an 05 600, K&N air filter, d&d slip on. Had a PCIII on there but bike runs better without it so its off now.

Here's what I know about them, which isn't a lot and I'm sure someone can add to what I have to say. I got my knowledge just from askiing about them. The velocity stacks will help you on the midrange and top end power, but you may loose some hp on the low end. So, if you are lookiing to get power out your low end range or coming out the corners, its probably not the best mod for you. I believe the HP gains are 5-7, with 7 being a strecth. They are fairly easy to install, just take off the air box and unscrew the old ones and slap on the new ones. How is it that your bike is running better w/o the PC3? Made it wasn't tuned in right. I could see it running the same or a little better, but not any worst. I know myself that I am choosing to go with the Bazzaz box, because it controls all 8 injectors and not just the top 4 as compared to the PC3.

Who told you velocity stacks will get you a 5-7 HP gain? :headshake Maybe 2 HP at max. Shamrock racing put short stacks on my bike. Factory Pro....$199.95 :headshake I paid $50 for mine.

Your fuel/air mixture is off. Get the PC set up correctly and you should be golden. I have basically the same set up on same year and no problems. Plenty of power for me but then again not trying to kill myself out there.

Also keep in mind that similar to a full exhaust system, velocity stacks will give you the extra HP up at the top end of the power band at the expense of some torque lower in the RPM band, so they may not give you exactly what you're looking for.

change your gearing. only way to get what you want.

Hopefully I don't sound stupid for saying this, but coming out of corners I usually run (depending on the corner) 6-9k rpms (mid-high???) how would the v stacks hurt that? The PC issue....When starting from a red light, the bike would hesitate. I could give it a lot of throttle and it would lag (like the bike wouldn't react to the throttle until a sec after). So, when taking a 90 right hand turn from a stop, it made it really sketchy and umcomfortable riding like that (obviously). Even just starting in a straight line it annoyed the hell out of me. I know it wasn't tuned "right". I have the K&N air filter, D&D slip on. No specific map on dyno's website. I contacted them, and one of their techs did up a custom map for me (which obviously wasn't the best since it wasn't on a dyno). Bike did the same thing. There aren't any local dyno shops so having it custom tuned is pretty much out of the question. So therefore, I just decided to take it off. Also, the tech from dyno himself told me....a PC is completely unnecessary and pretty useless with just a slip on. So, given that he works for the company, I trust that he wouldn't give me an opinion to push a sale away. Am I stupid for this? Perhaps...So in conclusion, the hesitation problem pissed me off, otherwise it was alright, didn't notice any spectacular gains out of it. Who told you velocity stacks will get you a 5-7 HP gain? :headshake Maybe 2 HP at max. Shamrock racing put short stacks on my bike. Factory Pro....$199.95 :headshake I paid $50 for mine. I forget the manufacturer's website I was reading on. They claim 5-7 HP gain with the stacks. The dyno chart they gave actually showed upwards of 8-9 HP gain with BMC filter and stacks, unless it was BS. Your fuel/air mixture is off. Get the PC set up correctly and you should be golden. I have basically the same set up on same year and no problems. Plenty of power for me but then again not trying to kill myself out there. I know it was off, but have no local tuning center. I'm not experienced with messing with the maps myself, even though I did a little bit. The problem was only below say 5K rpms. Thanks to all for your input, I appreciate it. I was just curious everyone talks about ripping pow pows or little bunny hops and my bike doesn't do shit hahaha. Someone else rode it and says it seems like it has plenty of power, faster than the other gixxers they've rode so I don't know what to think really. Maybe I need to stop thinking and just ride the bitch.

Don't always believe what a manufacture shows or tells you. Dyno charts can be manipulated quite easily. Their in the business to move product any way possible. You did the right thing by inquiring from the forum and researching.

OK, well speaking from experience...the guy telling you a PC is pretty much useless with a slip-on is full of it. I had a PC put on and dyno tuned. Gave me some horses with the stock exhaust. about a year later, I finally was able to get my Yoshi TRC slip on and went to get it re-tuned. Gave me about 7 more HP ON TOP of what the PC added from stock, which is not TOO much, but def noticeable. I'd say from stock to PC and Yoshi Slip-On I gained about 12 HP total. Just an FYI.
