Mileage on SyntheticFlamm 06-20-2008, 03:21 PM I searched but had no success. Just want to check what kind of mileage i should plan on between oil changes. I'm running Redline right now. Hong3103 06-21-2008, 12:38 AM I've been told every 3000 miles. I use synthetic and do it every 5000 miles. Unless I'm doing a lot of track days, then I change it a bit more frequently. WhitePony 06-21-2008, 01:50 AM 3000 Mister Tee 06-21-2008, 07:46 AM Okay, now what does your manual say?? Mine says every 3,500 miles. It also recommends changing the filter ever third oil change.
Now I don't get the logic of changing the oil and not the filter, so I do it every change personally. But there is absolutely no advantage to changing the oil sooner than the manufacturer recommends unless you track your bike. I personally change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals, running full synthetic. You could probably go a bit longer than that with synthetic and still be okay.
And obviously it isn't hurting the engine - I ride the absolute piss out of my 05 750, and have 51,000 miles on it now. It runs exactly the same as it did new - no loss in power, no smoke, no problems. moto1 11-05-2008, 06:28 PM i have have had ten sportbikes and i change my oil often 500 - 1000 depending if i need something to do oil is cheap motors arent, trust me on this 15 years at cheverolet,15 on boats, bikes and snowmobiles. ive seen hundreds of failures and most all are oil related. just mu two cents justin 11-05-2008, 08:56 PM oil aint that cheap too change it every 500 too 1000 miles. i change mine every 2000 miles on my bike and my cars. SPOONJP 11-06-2008, 05:30 AM well i use full synthetic oil and i change mine every 1500-2000miles. i am also a mechanic and have seen my share of oil related screw-ups. allthatflash 11-06-2008, 04:57 PM Okay, now what does your manual say?? +1 on this I change mine every 5,000 and use full synthetic oil with street/track day riding. Oil is $10 a quart so it costing $40 bucks in oil alone, that is a lot tp pay for changing oil every 2000 miles. but even tho I go 5,000 between oil changes I change my filter at that time, not every third oil change which I think is stupid also. $7 filteris crap when you r spending $40 for oil in the first place, so just be safe. The only oil filter I would leave in for longer then that is an Amsoil filter and thats it. Chango 11-06-2008, 06:27 PM I usually go for about 5,000 miles with Repsol fully synthetic oil, sometimes a little more. I change my filter at each oil change. I commute on my bike every day, to the tune of about 1,000 miles per month. There is no way in the world I would waste the time or money changing the oil every 500 miles. I'd be doing 20 oil changes per year at roughly $13 per liter of Repsol... Screw that. If I were only riding about 1,000 miles per year I might briefly consider it. Changing more often than 3,500 is just a silly waste. e30wantsagsixxer 11-08-2008, 11:58 AM I change mine depending on how hard i ride it and the filter every time. 3k if i ride it hard...this is on full synthetic....but the dealer told me 7k miles....this is for a kaw, but shouldn't matter a motor is a motor. But usually every 4-5k. islandwarrior88 11-10-2008, 03:23 PM regular oil about every 3000mi synthetic about every 5000mi is about right C-rider 08-24-2009, 06:45 AM I have been searching the forum all morning, and I don't mean to thread jack, but I didn't see another thread to post this in. Yesterday I switched to full synthetic after running regular suzuki oil for the past 18,000 in my 07 1K, my dealer never mentioned switching to synthetic or I woulda done it WAY sooner. I decided to make the switch after reading up on here. I see alot of post that were saying to make the switch after the break in. My question is, even with higher milage like my bike has it still should be fine to go to a full synthetic right? I don't take my bike to the track or do any really hard riding most of the time BTW. Thanks in advance fellas... HOG SLYR 08-24-2009, 09:39 AM I have been searching the forum all morning, and I don't mean to thread jack, but I didn't see another thread to post this in. First of all 18000 is not high mileage and you should have no troubles from switching so don't worry about it.
IMO 3000 - 5000 or every 6mos, which ever comes first is just fine but a track day would warrant a change. | |
