Had my first accident yesterday. As ironic as it may be, I was going the speed limit and it was the fault of the driver in front of me. I ride pretty damn hard, I mean full tilt through most turns, knee on the ground, fun stuff ya know? But not yesterday because I was stuck behind this SUV, so I am taking this turn at 40mph behind him, and at the top of the turn is an intersection. SUV places his left turn signal on, so assuming he is turning left I start to speed up and pass him on the right side only to find that as I am about 10 feet from him, he isn't turn left but right. I stood the bike up and mashed the front brake. I was too close to him and I started to endo and swing around. I body-checked the back of his SUV and tumbled to the ground. My jacket and helmet took the fall so I didn't have a scratch on me (TG).
Left mirror broken, clutch lever broken, shift peg broken, frame slider busted, fairing scratched but not cracked, handlebar slightly bent.
I am not worried about anything except for the handle bar. The left side is bent down just a little bit. I assume the bracket that holds the handlebar to the forks is made a little bit softer to allow it to bend rather than bending the forks upon impact? This can be rebent to normal position by the dealer I assume.
Did the cops get there and all pan out? O yeah, glad your all right and glad you were wearing your gear. I wear my jacket no matter the temp, people look at me like I'm crazy, but I would rather sweat than bleed.
robertedwingsxr 07-01-2005, 07:24 AM Sorry you had an accident, but at least you are all right and mostly minimal damange to the bike.
Cops didn't come out. I probably put a dent in the back of his SUV when my body hit it, but he was more worried that I was walking away from it rather than anything else. So I just rode off as did he.
gixxerbrendan 07-01-2005, 05:58 PM Glad you are alright. Is his insurance going to cover your bike damages...
I wouldn't straighten a bent handlebar, just replace it. It could snap in two while you are riding...

Insurance won't pay unless there is a police report. Glad to hear you're okay! Replace handlebars.

and they are shelling out a total of nearly 6k to me and god knows what they will have to bay Lshybrid195 for his medical
Dstrbd GSXR 07-01-2005, 06:56 PM Sweet, then I'll just say my bike is stollen and get the cash for it right now!!
No, I am not worried about it. I will replace the bracket that mounts the handlebar to the fork. I have already fixed the mirror, clutch lever, and shift peg. I will just have to deal with a few fairing scratches until I decide to get new ones.
scott2t2 07-02-2005, 08:37 AM i am glad you are ok. but you should never assume anything when dealing with people in mini vans or any other vehicle. always ride on the ready! be ready for anything they will do. they don't see you even when they look right at you!
Brooks51 07-02-2005, 09:14 AM The drivers that piss me off are the ones that try do race in front of you when they are turning left. I have had multiple cars try to dart in front of me at lights, I dont know if they are just bein assholes or if they are the most impatient retards on the planet. *End Rant*
