Eman's GSXr 07-05-2008, 10:47 AM I recently changed my oil on my gsxr 600 k7, some friends and me changed it out I put in motorex 10w 40 synthetic and also changed my coolant, i used engine ice and its working great, but when i start riding out after awhile the temp on the bike rises its normal, but when im at traffic after a while the bike chokes up and the oil light starts to flicker and then the bike will turn off the temp is usually around 210 or 220 when this happens, i know i used enough oil, could it be because of the weather please help? or anything else?!! thanks
Irish_K3 07-05-2008, 01:11 PM hmm whats that in celcius? Dear god tell me thats farrenheit u are using! lol
Mine never goes past 106 degree celcius in traffic, fan cuts in about 102 i think
Mister Tee 07-06-2008, 09:02 AM I don't know what's going on here. You should expect temperatures (in F) to rise to 225 or so stopped in traffic, but that won't hurt the engine one bit. I wonder if you have some sort of internal oil passage blockage, or possibly a bad oil pump.
The other thing that could possibly be happening is your cooling system is air locked, and as a result your temperature gauge is giving a false reading, allowing the bike to overheat. In fact, I'd check that first. That's more likely the cause.
yes, you have to bleed or burp the cooling system. if not, the air on the temp sensor never gets hot but the rest of the engine suffers massive heat damage.
if thats the case, you can probably say goodbye to your motor. if its not dead its suffered irreperable damage. aluminum engines, especially aluminum cylinder heads, and ESPECIALLY these aluminum cylinder heads (big, complicated, lots of tolerances, highly stressed valvetrain operating at high rotational speed) dont take kindly to being overheated so much they die.
i'm not saying it DID happen, but if it did I'm saying the consequenses. does your engine seem to tick or clack more? if so, thats the heat fucking with the valve train clearances. when you cook a motor they tick and click and clack. then loose compression. then burn/mix oil and coolant. then dont run.
for your sake I HOPE thats not it.
Mister Tee 07-08-2008, 12:59 PM One of the motorcycle magazines did a test a couple years ago where they took a Ninja ZX6 and basically cooked it by redlining it at a standstill until all of the coolant boiled off, and the aluminum exhaust can can caught on fire from the heat. The next day, they refilled the engine with oil, and rode the bike around. The article is actually linked to a thread here someplace.
I'm not claiming that's a good thing to do to your bike, but these engines can stand a little heat.
justf150 07-08-2008, 06:44 PM i have never used motorex , i use mobilel 1 or amsoil...
as for the type of oil you use it has to have a certon code on the back saying it will work for your bike.... and i think for my bike its a JP... witch is an 06 1k

wow, never heard of that.
well, if its a fact cool, nice to know these things arent as delicate as I thought.
