Alpharisk 08-18-2008, 02:28 PM On vacation here in NJ (stop #1) and went up to High Point State Park today. Unfortunately, I am in a rental box, but they just don't rent sport bikes around here.
Anyway, as I was leaving the monument I saw this beauty of a GSXR sitting in the parking lot. I immediately SOOOO wanted by bike. I think the bonus this year is going towards a hitch and trailer so I can take the bike (and all my crap) on longer distance vacations.
Anyway, I left the parking lot and went down the mountain to take some more pics. As I drove away, the yellow GSXR pulled up behind me. He stayed with me out of the park and a good way down Rt 23. I was spending more time looking in the rear-view than the windshield. I REALLY wanted my bike.
I am from Florida and the only twisties we have are on ramps! To ride the GSXR on roads like this must be heaven!
Anyway, if you see this post and this is your bike: Thanks for making me homesick and for missing my bike!!! LOL

On a related note, I've noticed that here in NJ the percentage of sportbikes to cruisers is much lower than back home in Florida.
I did a lot of driving around the back roads of Sussex and Warren counties over the weekend. I saw many motorcycles, but for the most part, they were cruisers. I think I saw maybe 10 sportbikes over the whole three days I've been here. Wonder why the difference?
killa 08-19-2008, 09:24 AM Everybody is over by Bear Mt where the Real GOOD twisties are!
I live in Sussex county and everytime i used to go out - we always went to bear mt and went from there!!!
Tons of sportbikes and cruisers, but the weekends is where u will see all the sportbikes!!
Thanks, appreciate it!

On the way to CT today I decided to drive up through Bear Mountain and ditch the Tappan Zee Bridge. I can see what you said about Bear Mtn. I only got to see a little bit of the park and roads, but very nice! It's kind of a trek from NJ, but would really be worth it.
Like I said, gotta get the trailer and bring the bike up north next summer. Thanks for the tip!
Bear Mtn gets old...there are better roads not much further away and less populated :D

If you had of taken 23 north to NY, which would have turned into 97. For maybe 30 to 40 minutes, you would have been in the hawk's nest area. Very scenic spot along the delaware river with a ton of sport bikes hangin out at the over look sections. Just going down rt 23 north is a nice twisty road. You woulda loved it.
I have been in florida many times and I know what you mean by the exit/entrance ramps...........only place to really lean that bike over..........you poor Floridians LOL.

Where show us? WE love to hit different twisty roads. We start off in the Bear mountain area and out to different twisty roads. 9W gets crowded and full of cops so we don't hang around there for long.

I've never had issues with there being cops on 9W...as long as you coast through the towns that is. I recall you telling me where Hawk's Nest is but haven't made it out there yet.
One local gem being Peekskill Hollow Road to 303 North. Some fast straights to nice sweepers, to a few crests to float over. That's a road I don't normally share but since you passed the Hawk's Nest tidbit, I can return the favor
Drop me a PM when you heal up and we'll hit it up. I'll also work on other ones. I recall driving some really nice roads during the winter up towards Hunter Mtn from the Thruway. I gotta make that ride before the end of the season to really check it out.

I am talking about snake mountain on 9w.........at times there are cops hiding targeting US sportbike riders. WE have been pulled over chased so many times it is crazy. We hit it early and then leave for other roads before it gets too late.
There are 2 awesome routes we take to get to the hawk's nest area. That may be our destination this SUNDAY!!!

Snake? Never heard of that section. Is it south of Bear Mtn Bridge, or just north of it? Storm King maybe?
