Well i am almost at 1000 miles on my K8 GSXR 600 and i think it is time to change the oil. I have a few questions since street bikes are new to me. - What oil and filter is best recommened? - where can I buy a filter and oil? - Is it time for synthetic oil? - What tools will i need? - Anything else different from changing car oil? please help me out!

>- What oil and filter is best recommened? Millions of opinions on this. Recommend doing a search. Can't go wrong with a Suzuki OEM filter and a high quality motorcycle specific oil in the correct weight per your manual, most likely 10W-40. Other choices are out there. >- where can I buy a filter and oil? Dealer, motorcycle supply stores, online motorcycle supply stores, site sponsors, etc.... >- Is it time for synthetic oil? I personally would wait, as it is my opinion that a small amount of wear in the first few thousand miles is beneficial. Others would switch right away. You won't hurt your engine either way. But, I do absolutely swear by synthetic oils and run them in every vehicle I own. Again, you can search on this topic. >- What tools will i need? Your owner's manual will tell you what tools you need. Allen wrenches and a screwdriver for the fairings, hex or crescent wrench for the oil drain, filter wrench for the oil filter. I use a strap wrench myself. Drain pan. Beer - I can do an oil change within about four. - Anything else different from changing car oil? Not really. Make sure you check the oil level with the bike straight up and down. Again, do a search on changing oil, as there are millions of tips out there.

Yes, a filter form the dealership will be fine. Your bike needs about 2.5 quarts of oil for an oil and filter change.

do yourself a favor and download a shop manual. it'll help you out for your 4k mi. service. you can find it online if you search for it. i believe your owners manual says to do the initial oil change @ 600 mi., but youre ok.
