Please tell me you at least have insurance...It all depends on the cop, if the cop wants to screw you they could arrest you and impound the bike. I believe its a felony now in the state of Florida to ride without an endorcement. Just spend the 250-300 bucks and go to a Safety Council class, its well worth it.

Nope you don't need insurance in Florida...I think its stupid that they don't require you to have insurance:headscrat That would be very wise to wait it out, it's just not worth it.

It is the 1 bad thing about this state that pisses me off:thefinger

There's a loophole in the FL law that states ANY VEHICLE ON THE ROAD NEEDS INSURANCE. Then it goes on to define a vehicle as anything with 4 wheels thus excluding motorcycles from needing to be insured. If you DON'T have insurance, you HAVE TO wear a helmet. If you HAVE insurance, you DON'T have to wear a helmet.

If you HAVE insurance, you DON'T have to wear a helmet. I think all you need is a life insurance policy that covers $ 10K in case you get injured from not wearing a helmet, so techinally you don't need any form of car insurance.

just the 10k personal injury is needed for no helmet

I got pulled over back in 05 when I had my bike and didn't have my motorcycle endorsement I told the cop I had just got the bike and was going to the class soon. He told me to just slow down but he must have been having a good day.

Look into other areas around you to take the class. I took it here in Orlando and had NO wait. I signed up for it and took it that weekend. There was one guy in my class that drove his bike down from NC cause there wasn't any openings up there until jan! freakin crazy! Anyhow, look around... better be safe than sorry with all the new laws and fines.

This doesn't just apply to insurance but also modifications too. I love the no insurance on motorcycle policy. I'm 24 and they want $265 a month for me. That's $65 more than my payment. If insurance was reasonable then I'd have it in a heartbeat but until that happens I just keep 10k aside for the what ifs. As for a penalty for driving without a licsence, your bike can be impounded and you can spend the night in jail. I believe it is still a misdemenor as long as you haven't done it before but I could be wrong on that as statutes have changed a lot since I last read them. Good luck on your class.

you don't have to wear a helmet if you have $10k in life insurance. if you don't have $10k in life insurance you have to wear one. a few people in my county that i know got stopped with no endorsement. they were given a court date on the spot. i've also heard about the impounds too, but i guess it depends on the cop/county. check the availability in other cities for the class. i took the class and i recommend it. i have liability, comp. and collision on my bike though state farm and i'm also only paying about $25 a month. i also have GAP through suzuki.

How is yours that cheap? I've been with State Farm since I was 16 and also have my car insurance with them, so I get a little bit of a price break for the multiline discount...plus no tickets or accidents. I was worried when my bike got stolen a few months back, that they might try and screw me over since I didn't pay that much for insurance, but it worked out fine.:arsenal

It's stupid to have no helment on, but thats my opion. For the class look around to other counties and on the web for others that give the class besides msf. I found a class at the harley dealer and sighned up last sat and this thursday I am starting class. It sucks that they make us pay. Il is free for classes all you need is a fully refundable deposit to save your seat.

Two buddies of mine are cops and I know several others... Yes, they can impound the bike for not having the endorsement. No, you don't have to carry insurance if either the bike is paid for or you have less-than $5,000 financed. Yes, they can arrest you if you do not have your endorsement. Word to the wise though, if you're getting pulled over, pull into a parking lot to stop. The reason for this is because a parking lot is private property and no matter what you are being stopped for they cant impound the bike... they can still arrest you but atleast the bike is safe.

Yeah but were usually getting pulled over on the highway where there are no parking lots haha. Florida sucks in general. No twisties and how they have that $1200 fine for going 50+mph over ...I have never heard of them not being able to do that on private property.

I think you need insurance in Fl to register you bike. Nope, have my bike registered, and have no motorcycle license or Insurance I know this is a old thread, but that sounds fishy to me, unless car's and motorcycles are different when it comes to registering. I know when I switched over to being registered in FL (I'm military) the DMV asked to see my proof of insurance. But like I said it could be different when it comes to bikes.

I got pulled over for accelerating to the speed limit too quickly, unnecessary show of acceleration, and had no motorcycle endorsement. He didn't write me a ticket, just gave me a court date. I went to court, they dropped the fine, just had to pay court fees (only 18, not very good driving record). Walked out having to pay $268. Again... that was without the fine.

Go state farm. I don't have them, but they did quote me a good rate. I think I pay about $70/mo because my carrier does not ask nor care what kind of motorcycle I have. Bottom line: Get insurance and wear a helmet if you value the reason you're even thinking of the decision. My two cents.
