Hey guys, I just bought a 05 GSXR600 and i noticed that when i ride it it makes a bit of a chain rattling noise. My question is...does it just need greased up or is there something i can adjust or is that normal? It's not huge and you definitely cant hear it when you are riding it just when you are letting someone else ride it

First it's not normal. Is the chain dry? Check the sprockets for wear and the chain to see if the chain is clean and adjusted properly and whether or not it has any tight spots in it, also be sure the rollers are free then lube it.

check the chain for any binding links, damaged o-rings, etc... if all appears fine, lube chain and adjust as needed...

I haven't had time to work on the bike recently but it is garaged now and i will be getting torn into it and get that chain issue taken care of. I was talking to a guy at work who used to race 250cc dirt bikes and he said to use chainsaw lube cause it doesnt attract dust and it stays with the chain for a long time. Anybody else try this?

I wouldn't. O-ring chains are susceptible to attack by certain things, and chain saw oil may not be safe for the o-rings. Search the main tech area for chain lubes, but I like Dupont Multi-Use Teflon lube myself. No fling and lasts a long time. And safe for your chain. But there are lots of o-ring safe motorcycle chain lubes out there. (Dirtbikes don't use 0-ring chains.)

aww...that would make sense. Alright, i'll go with the teflon than. That sounds like the best solution. Thanks a lot! And i'll let you guys know what I do and how it turns out

I hate to bring up an old thread, but if you have an O-ring chain, you should really be using chain lube made for O-ring chains. Other lubs can be harsh to them and never let you oil the inner links. O-ring specific lube expands the o-rings just enough to let the links soak and fill with lube. Let it dry atleast an hour before going on any ride, to let the o-rings settle back in. Also, spray the chain from the top, never the side. You arent lubing anything if you go from the side.
