EDWIN PIZARRO 12-18-2008, 06:16 AM Hello to all .
Today is the day when article bill 416 A will go into to law.
regarding all bikes must have a epa sticker on the muffler and or there own stock exhuast . If bikes do not comply ,
1st offense is $1000 and bike confiscation , until fine is paid
2nd offense is $2500.00 fine and bike confiscation for ever.
On tuesday of this week i was at a bike rally in queens ny and was able to pick up some info , trying to get involve to help for this bill not to become a law.
For me and imma sure for many others , riding is my therapy. Any one out there if you feel the same way please get involve and be pro active in what you love to do. thanks.
tony2001 12-18-2008, 07:40 AM The bill was taken off the table for now, which means their not going to vote on it just yet, but they have until the end of 2009 to bring this back up if they want to, so stay on top of it
JIXXX 12-18-2008, 08:16 AM damn, who the hell elected these fucktards into office, that come up w/ these absurd laws on a whim... some lawmakers should just be shot on the spot...

+1 Why attempt to make laws on something they know very little about?
M_Easy 12-18-2008, 09:25 AM Thread moved to appropriate section.
Man that law would suck, I hope they don't drop that on you guys. Don't get me wrong, I DON'T advocate riding dirty, but that's a helluva penalty.
smarston 12-18-2008, 03:29 PM yea that sucks.. i hope it doesnt make its way up through new england...
and i dont think that you could really say putting an aftermarket pipe on our bikes would fall under riding dirty.. some of this shit is getting out of hand..
EDWIN PIZARRO 12-18-2008, 05:52 PM Hello to all i just got home and to hear the bill was taken off the table is good news , thanks tony2001 , you know i have been riding for 11 years and know a lot of people , but i have to say , while working today , i must of call over 35 people and no one knew the result of the law. so thanks again.
M_Easy 12-18-2008, 06:41 PM and i dont think that you could really say putting an aftermarket pipe on our bikes would fall under riding dirty..
No, I don't think that having a pipe is riding dirty, what I meant (should have clarified) is failure to post that sticker.
Basically saying that I think that law is crazy, but unfortunate reality. I think that it should be followed (for the rider's sake, not just for the sake of the law) since there is a penalty, BUT I think the penalty is horrendous.
But it's rhetorical anyway since it isn't going through yet.
tony2001 12-19-2008, 08:30 AM No sweat, i live in NYC and this would have sucked for me too!
The politicians are responding to complaints from local residents and business, so they make up these crazy proposals to appease their constituancy.
The problem is, theres too many factors involved in enforcing this if it came into law, so lots more research is needed.
I'm a proponent of loud pipes (not harley loud), only because if people cant see you they hear you, so there a little more alert. Were involved in a mode of transport that has more dangers than most others, any little edge helps us to survive
staycreep'ndany 12-21-2008, 05:01 PM happy to see this has been taken off for now... lets hope it stay's gone for ever... we can all count the times.. where the exhaust is what help. us when we are out there cruisin.. becuase people are too lazy to look in the mirrors.. or chating away on the fone.. as stated above. we need everything we can get.. to make it

NEW YORK IS THE ONLT CITY YHAT HAS ALL THIS BULL CRAP LAWS THIS PLACE SUCKS BALL AND TO ALL NYC POLITICIANS:thefinger:thefinger:thefinger:thefinger
blacknight 03-09-2009, 07:54 AM So is this law a definite or what?
And how does it apply to out of state owners?
I live in Jersey but I may take my bike to the NY every now and then.
Also is this only for the 5 boroughs of NYC or the entire state of New York
tony2001 03-09-2009, 08:06 AM These were the problems the city council couldnt sort out, so they took the bill off the table.
Which means; they might be doing some sort of research or study to bring it back, so sign as many petitions as you can against this.
I'm more concerned with how our suk ass mayor is trying to pass a bill putting speed tolls on all NYC bridges, its gonna suk to have to pay $6 coming from queens to manhattan.

Yes, but think that if is passes in NYC other cities/states will see that and then try to adopt the law. It is crucial that all riders
do their part in anyway they can to prevent this bill from passing.
As of right now it is off the table but they are trying to revise it and bring it back. The fight has not ended it is still going right now. CCMS is still visiting council members and keeping a close eye on this and there are still meetings/rallies that are occurring.

I don't think the tolls will happen. It will only create more congestion, hurt voters, plus they way NYC is with construction
it will take then years to complete. No to mention all the bull crap
approvals they would need to pass it.
**Well at least that's what I am hoping**
:D :D

As of right now it is only NYC.
To answer your question that is one of the many reasons why the law is off the table there are too many loopholes. If you are a non nyc resident then you would've been subject to the same penalties. If you came into
NYC and parked your bike as the current article stands, you could be fined $1000 if your bike's exhaust did not have the EPA stamp or if the ticket agent or police office did not "see" your stamp.
If you came in a second time and have not yet paid that fine or in process of paying you get another fine, $2500 and your bike gets taken. A third offense and the city permanently takes your ride with a $5000 fine. How's that for targeting Motorcyclist?
Bastards!

That really sucks considering there are cars with aftermarket exhausts that are obnoxiously loud and definitely not carb legal.
That bill will NOT be passed for sure

That's what we all say, until it gets passed.
If this crap is being revised we all have to stay vigilant, cause before you know it, it's law.
As for the nyc bridge tolls, I hope congestion stops it from going through cause it sounds dangerously close to happening.

+1 If the really were trying to appease the residents that were complaining about the loud pipes then they should be going after the cars with aftermarket exhausts also. Some of those are louder than Harley exhausts.
