zabrow187 01-26-2009, 06:16 PM Not syth and non syth or different weights, but rather brands. I have several partial quarts of full syth 10w-40 (leave your preferences out please) that I don't want to waste. Would there be any issues with combining the brands?

It is never a good idea to mix any oil from different manufacturers, regardless of Viscosity.
You should not "Blend" any oils, even from the same Manufacturer unless they are the same exact oil, not just Viscosity, but same oil.
Additive packages can vary not only from Man.-Man. but even within the same Company. Many oils are blended for specific applications, Diesel, Marine, MotorCycle, Air-Cooled, Liquid-Cooled Etc...Even Lawn Mowers...
The only time it is OK to "Blend" is in an emergency situation, to get you home and then any manufacturer will recommend changing oil.
Most oils will blend without any problems long enough.

So, it is fine to blend Amsoil 10-40 MC oil with 20-50 MC oil?
I have a few of each until I buy my next case.
zabrow187 01-27-2009, 06:22 AM So Repsol 10w-40 Motorcycle specific Oil, and Mobil 1 10w-40 Motorcycle specific Oil, are really far enough apart in "additive packages" that it would cause an issue?

You just don't want to blend if you don't have to. And no It isn't recommended to blend any two manufacturers.

BoostedRBSX 01-30-2009, 11:17 AM Not reccomended, but ive done it with no adverse effects just so I could go riding for the day and then drained it and changed it the next time i went to buy oil.

Have to disagree with you on this the recomended way to change oil brands is by attrition. I know that is impractial with our bikes as they use little if any between oil changes I'm not saying its ok to mix different types. But if there the same type just different brands ok

I will call Tech tomorrow but without knowing exact additives, I would say NO

Negative... Different oils, whether by Manufaturer or even the same Manufacturer may have different additives. Oil Manufacturer will say Do Not Blend oils. You are talking Viscosity where it is all about additives.
Just for instance. It is popular among some of the Tuner Crowd to Blend their tranny fluids. In other words, a Cocktail.. AMSOIL Makes MTF which is roughly a 70W-80 and AMSOIL also makes MTG which is a 75W-90. Not only do they have different Base Stocks but totally different additive packs and the two are not compatible.

According to AMSOIL Tech Services... If you have Product Codes MCF and MCV it will be OK to blend them but they will not recommend an Extended Drain Interval when this is done.
