I took my new 08 600 bike to a dealer today to check out why it was acting up on shifting 1st to 2nd.
The guy who helped me immediately asked about break in, 600 miles service, etc. (bike coming up on 2000 miles)...he told me, if you are running synthetic oil it is too thin for break in :hmmm: and that you should only run regular until about 5-8000 miles.
OK. But then he said, if he took apart the motor and so forth, that Suzuki would NOT pay for it because I put synthetic oil in at the 600 mile mark.
Has anyone else heard this? I did read some of the opinions about synthetic versus regular, but didn't see anyone mentioning a warranty issue.
I am taking it back to the place that did the 600 mile service and having them put regular oil back in the bike to be on the safe side. :headshake

Well I changed my K7 600 to synthetic between 2K-3K miles... no issues.

Read your warranty - all of the fine print. The warranty comes with the bike. I would be very surprised if the warranty excludes the use of synthetic oil, or if the service schedule on newer bikes specifies standard or synthetic. As long as you use the correct grade and weight of oil specified by your manual, you should be covered by your warranty, synthetic or not.
You won't hurt your engine by putting synthetic oil at the 600 mile mark, but on the other hand some degree of wear during the first few thousand miles is beneficial if you want to achieve full oil control, power and maximum engine life, so I personally would wait for about 5,000 miles, at least for a normally ridden street bike.

I heard that you should not use full synthetic until the first valve adjustment

There is a lot of debate over this. I personally would wait a few thousand miles, like 4-5 thousand but not 14,000 or whenever the first valve adjustment is scheduled. But again, you won't hurt your engine in any way if you go sooner, you will just impede some initial wear, that's all. If you race your bike, you may be better served by running full synthetic from the get go.

The main thing during break in is to seat the rings. If it hasn't happened by 600 miles, then it is not going to. There should be no problem using the synthetic oil. I would dare the mechanic who feed you this crap to show you in black and white that synthetic oil voids the warranty.
