whatsagixer 02-24-2009, 12:34 AM Sorry if this has been answered before, i tried searching for my answer but its such a dumb question that i dont think its ever been asked..well it probably has...
k, i just got my bike in august 08 and only rode for like 2 months then put it in storage...i plan on changing my oil in the next month or so for the start of the season(i hate all of you that can ride ur bike now). so i was curious as to how much oil i needed to buy...2 qt, 3qt, 4 qt, ive read in previous threads that people buy 4 qts of oil and i was about to get some oil but just for shits i looked in my manual and saw that the specs for an oil change is 2.3qts and 2.6qts w/ filter....wtf?? is this right...do i only need to buy 3 qts of oil??
Mister Tee 02-24-2009, 10:11 AM Well, I can tell you on my 05 750, the crankcase capacity is placarded as 2,800 mL (2.8 liters), and I buy my oil in 4 liter bottles. I always change the filter, and it seems like I always have less than 1 liter left after a change. If you buy your oil by the quart, you might get caught a little bit short if you get three. I'd get four just to be safe.
What year and model is your bike?

votienquoc 02-24-2009, 09:26 PM It should be 2500ml (2.6 US qt) with oil filter change,
Or 2200 ml (2.3 US qt) with oil change ONLY. :laughingr:laughingr:laughingr
therobster 02-25-2009, 05:45 AM thanks anyway...screw it, ill just buy 4qts to be safe..
My 07 600 takes 3.3 quarts.

exactly, the manual just screwed me up but fuck it, im just getting 4qts and if i have an extra bottle, oh well, even though im pretty sure it takes more than 3qts.
Chango 02-25-2009, 03:41 PM My 06 only required 2.6 qts for an ol and filter change. The 05 requires 3.5 qts.

My K7 600 takes about 2.3 w/o filter change, and about 2.7 w/ filter change. the oil level was half way in the sight glass.
whatsagixer 02-26-2009, 03:34 PM i see...i was just alarmed when i read in the manual that it took less that 3qts when everyone has been putting over 3qts in their bikes.

strictlye 02-27-2009, 07:19 AM Be careful not to overfill, it should take less than 3 litres.
Typewun 03-28-2009, 03:19 PM I had just gone through the same thing today. I have a k7 600 and I had seen in the manual that it takes 2.6 quarts. Unfortunately, I had just put 3 quarts in my bike w/oil filter change. Is this going to cause a problem, and just how serious of a problem???:hmmm:
Yaboybizzy 03-28-2009, 07:53 PM it well tell you in your owners manual, my 02 gsxr 600 takes 3.1 Q with a filter change
Typewun 03-29-2009, 06:05 AM I am just going to pull the plug and drain .4 quarts of oil just to be safe.

Check the level. If it's at the top of the glass, it's fine. Some stunters run an extra half quart of oil so they keep their pickup tube full. You're probably fine.
Typewun 03-29-2009, 05:06 PM That is the response I was hoping for...thanks tee...
its59er 04-25-2009, 08:21 AM I myself just changed the oil in my bike and only took 3qts. Whether you have front/rear stands or use a 2 by 4 under the kickstand, you'll get a more accurate level from the site glass. 4qts is way too much!
SASQUATCH113 04-25-2009, 10:36 PM i just did my k6 600 and used 2 and then some quarts. i bought 4 qts. i have a full bottle left over.
Alwayslast179 04-27-2009, 02:54 PM follow the manual
