BlacK On Black 02-28-2009, 08:30 PM I just bought my bike with 4333 miles on it and told my self that i would change my oil at 5000 just so i know it was done. Any way I went with royal purple (people telling me its the best). Is this the way to go? Thanks
Best Bomb Tech 02-28-2009, 11:04 PM Royal Purple is one of the better engine oils for cars but as far as bikes go it's more the middle of road sort of oil. Amsoil and Mobil 1 are two of the best oils for bikes. Check this out...http://www.synthetic-oil-tech.com/MC%20White%20paper-g2156.pdf
This is a pretty informative evaluation of oils, their respective specs, and how well they perform.
speedxtacy 03-02-2009, 05:13 PM I have been using Royal Purple since I bought my '06 GSXR I love it, Don't know how my internals are doing but I am sure like my car they are great. I use the specific Max Cycle Royal Purple not just the Car oil you have to make sure to buy the specific one for Motorcycles.
whatsagixer 03-03-2009, 12:39 AM amsoil is pretty much top notch...mobil 1 is really good also.
surfly 03-03-2009, 03:31 AM I used some on my Katana when I had it and it seemed to work well, probably going try some on my gsxr too, + it cost cheaper than most other syn. oil.

You get what you pay for! AMSoil in my bike!

AMSoil FTW
Monedogg 03-03-2009, 07:53 PM Mobil 1 all the way
surfly 03-05-2009, 02:44 AM I used Mobil 1 and Royal Purple, I couldn't tell the difference except price.
Amsoil Dealer Group 03-09-2009, 04:04 PM Click on the G2156 Link in our Sig... Pick one of the Top 3 Oils and you will be good to go..
Hint: RP is not one of them... Although you will not experience a catastrophic failure... RP Shears out of grade in the First Sequence of a 3 Sequence Test.

halcyon 04-15-2009, 01:46 PM good info in the oil write up, fortunately i used mobil1 last oil change....prolly will come down to if mobil 1 or amsoil is cheapest come time for my next change
cnazar3 04-15-2009, 01:52 PM i was leaning the same way towards royal purple but i did some research and read that its more for v twin motors and stuff like that. stick to amsoil or mobil 1 4t motorcycle oil

Hmmm.... I wonder now if anyone looks at our Sig... click on the G-2156 Link...
Royal Purple .... Nahhh.. I'll hold my tongue and let you look at the Link..
And then we have this outake from Lubes N' Greases
The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus
recommended Porter, Texas-based Royal Purple modify or discontinue numerous
advertising claims for its synthetic motor oil, following a challenge by
Wayne, N.J.-based BP Lubricants. The NAD examined comparative performance
and superiority claims in print, broadcast and Internet advertising. In some
of the advertising, Royal Purple compared its performance to Castrol, Shell,
Amsoil and other motor oil brands.
NAD recommended that Royal Purple discontinue its use of consumer
testimonials reporting specific performance attributes in the absence of
reliable independent evidence showing performance capability.
tantrumtwo 04-15-2009, 08:41 PM The interesting thing about royal purple is every year some auto mag runs an engine challenge. Lots of teams build to the specific parameters. Royal Purple is used in 9 out of 10 engines and in the winning engine. My son gets this mag. Great for cars but not in my bike. I've been using Amsoil and before that mobil one.
biker250 04-21-2009, 07:47 AM everybody is going to have their own opinion on oil. We have customers that run Royal Purple in our race motors and it holds up just fine.

Yep, but there is more to it than Dyno Tests.. AMSOIL looks at Overall Performance. Glad you use it..
A few posts up, Someone else said something about "whichever is cheaper".. Personally, I don't subscribe to that practice. I even spend the extra money to do Oil Analysis on my bike.
Not only that, with our Forum Discount, we are probably less expensive than RP too.
Ever notice how RP and others cover the competitions bottle with a rag when testing... And then use a statement such as "When tested against other synthetics".. What Synthetic ? Possibly a faux synthetic such as Castrol SynTec ?

Midnight6 05-15-2009, 12:31 PM i run the motul semi synthetic 5100 line in my bike. what are your guys thoughts on that?

Gilbert must be a pretty decent sized town. I ship to a few people there.
If you are going to run Motul, Why not just go right to the top of their line, the 300V ?
03pearl750 06-06-2009, 04:40 AM always used Amsoil. my last change i tried royal purple. . doesnt compare to the Amsoil IMO

In your opinion and in ASTM Tests as well..
Although you would'nt have a catastrophic failure right away, the Royal Purple Shears a Full Viscosity Grade in the First Sequence of a Three Sequence ASTM Test. Example: 10W-40 just became a 10W-30.

Of course you will say Amsoil is better your the dealer:lol:. If you ask RP and Mob 1 they will say theirs is the best and have their own set of papers to "proove" it.

You are wrong..
I don't say the things I do to sell AMSOIL, I sell AMSOIL because I can say the things I do and I have for over 25 years now.
That is why we use ASTM Tests so heavily. They can be duplicated by anyone and have the same results.
They don't have their own "White Papers".. These Papers were the culmination of several of the Top Testing Facilities in the US.
AMSOIL puts the name of their competition right there for everyone to see. They don't wrap rags around the competitors bottles, or use statements such as "Against other Synthetics".
If what was published was false, AMSOIL would have been sued years ago. Just like all the additives that you no longer see on TV and where Royal Purple has been asked to pull their False advertising or face suit.
I doubt you will find any of the upper crust at Mobil Chemical say anything bad about us. They seemed pretty happy when we were having dinner together.

cowko 06-09-2009, 05:13 PM do these oil things and all that sort really matter that much?
Amsoil Dealer Group 06-09-2009, 05:55 PM do these oil things and all that sort really matter that much?
Only if you care about what you drive..
Oil, is the Life Blood of your engine. The Filter, is the Kidney that keeps it clean.

Mister Tee 06-09-2009, 07:55 PM do these oil things and all that sort really matter that much?
Good question. Try running without it and see what happens.
Kwikgixxer 06-10-2009, 05:48 AM I can't believe nobody runs bel ray synthetic lubricants its all we run in our track bikes, drag bikes, legend cars, and personal sport bikes what are your thoughts?:hmmm:
Mister Tee 06-10-2009, 07:29 AM I'm sure it's probably fine.
GORILLACLIPZ 06-10-2009, 08:46 AM I love RP in my STi but go with amsoil in my K5.

Is Bel-Ray a good oil and fluid ? Sure, better than some, not as good as others.
One of my Retail Harley accounts has virtually quit selling Bel-Ray after I got AMSOIL in the door. They were big Bel-Ray users until a few of the employees started using AMSOIL.. The rest, as they say, is History...

WheatThins 06-11-2009, 01:31 PM I Just put Royal Purple in my Bike about 3 days ago and OMG!!! I can tell a big difference the first difference i notice was the shifting is alot smoother and the second was that the throttle response has gotten alot better than Regular oil so i would definitely recommend Royal Purple To any other Rider. Now I cant say much about Mobil 1 and Amsoil because i havnt tried them yet but next riding season i will be putting amsoil in and trying that out
