Anybody heard anything good or bad about the Velocity Gear Slimline Juggernaut body armor shirt? http://www.highvelocitygear.com/productpages/slimline.html I'm considering buying one, but I want to make an educated purchase.

I'm still against those damned things. They offer a false sense of protection. For stunting I guess they're okay, you fall down there at what... 10 or 15mph? Those things aren't jack shit in a street crash though. One of the number one rash spots is up your side right above your ass, and no protection there. Plus, that mesh shifts around in a crash, pulling the armor pieces away from the spot they're supposed to protect. I saw a guy riding in our group in one of those go down. He splashed down at about 70mph, and it shredded that goofy BMX jacket he was wearing. Ah, and here's a guy wearing something similar. Not the exact design, but another false sense of security. His rash is in the normal spots, and his elbow pad did jack. Those things should come with a label saying "Not for real riding use" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kFTPbgxgtY&feature=related

Those are designed to be worn under leathers. The padding offers better protection than most stock (CE) pads found in jackets. Many jackets have no chest protection and a foam pad for back protection is a joke. This Juggernaut jacket has MUCH better armor (CE-L2 in areas) and it's all held together with mesh for air flow. Guilty is right, pavement will grab that mesh and shred it in a split second. It's not supposed to be worn alone. A BMX jacket doesn't count. lol

soz, didn't specify. EVERY time I've seen someone with something like this, they end up wearing the damned thing alone. The things get advertised as a piece of solo equipment, and they don't stress it's extra, not a solo piece of equipment. This one even goes so far as to bash other brands, including Spidi, Dainese and A-stars (read the link on the website "What you need to know" or whatever it is). Usefu; info... yes. But supplied in a way to make it seem like the other companies are ripping you off. Hell, maybe they are. Like I said, they need a big red tag in them saying "Not real protection" or at least something saying "Designed as supplementary protection only". Without leather over it, it's just a mesh bmx jacket.

Hello, Personally, body armor is without a doubt a more protective option then your flesh and bones. Anyone who says otherwise has clearly never worn the stuff. Any body armor can prove this, simply take a bat and whack someone in the back with and without it. Obviously, not a scientific test but more than enough to realize the reality of what armor does. The scientific aspect comes to play with CE ratings, that's the DIFFERENCE! Anyone that assumes these are meant as outer protection is obviously not doing their homework. How could anyone assume lycra is meant to be an outer layer? As for Velocity Gear, my Google searches have shown that they have the lowest cost level 2 armor and warranties that nobody else offers. You won't get that from Dainese or Alpinestars... I read their snippet on other manufacturers: "But supplied in a way to make it seem like the other companies are ripping you off. Hell, maybe they are." I think that's exactly the point of that write-up, notice they claim it was written independently but more importantly companies like Bohn sew fake CE labels in their garments, nice! My favorite is the part about the Dainese aluminum inner core. Great choice! Impact the thing once, on accident or otherwise and you'll need to fork over $300 to $400 to replace it. Having worked as a motorcycle apparel retailer, I no longer assume any company has my best interests at heart! I want to see the proof, not a mass produced logo!!
