Let me start off that I ride a gsxr 750 and love it. There are two other people in my family with gixxers because of me and most of my friends have them also. Now that being said I just saw this article for the new 06 yzf-R6, the article mentions a 17,500 rpm redline!! I'd definetly like to take that out for a test drive, but don't think I'd buy one since I'm 6'4" and I've always felt like a giant on the latest yamaha bikes. If suzuki doesnt come out with a yellow color scheme, i might jump ship. on a side note.... i read an article at r6-forum.com and a moderator was talking about teh redline on them. he states that they are awesome track bikes, but apparently they ride poor between 1,000-3,500rpm, which means it sucks to cruise. but like u, i want to test drive it to see for myself. 17,500 is crazy! time will tell

I'm thinking if the bike has a 17.5k redline by the time the clutch is engaged you'll probably be at 2k already

I have recently bought an 05 R1 and I havev friends with r6's, they are alittle boggey from 1000 - 3000, after that they beccome smooth ass monsters!!! Crusining speed is not at this rpm so don't worry. They also shift really smooth, just my .02

Wow, between 1k-3k....hm...you guys must really hate to accelerate for the gas that it uses....I don't think my gixxer 6 have ever seen 1k...she idles a tad high, but shit, that is nearly stalling revs.

I very rarely ride below 3K.

with a 14K+ redline why would you be down below 3K rpms, i cruise higher than that usually in my V8 car with a redline of 7 :hmmm:

that is what I was thinking...I keep my saab over 4500 nearly all the time...it's also having the highly tuned 4 cyl engine...gotta keep these little bangers wound up for any HP...there is like 12 hp at 1000 rpm...acording to keith code....and I believe him...

I don't remember anyone saying they ride down around 1000rpm's, not sure how the topic got changed to that. I don't think there is a bike that doesn't bog down under 2500rpm. I wonder why they changed to be able to get rpm's that high, the valve springs must be similar to indy car designs.

Any sportbike is going to ride like shit below 3k... hell my bike tries to stall if it's under 3k unless I have the clutch in. I don't even think my cluth engages until after 3k anyways
