I haven't made it to Hallet yet, but I'm planning on going there sometime next year. I have a buddy who races there with CMRA, and he recommended it for some cheap track time. It's boatloads cheaper than Barber, the only track I've ridden on so far. The other motorcycle tracks within 8 hours that I know of are Texas World Speedway, The Motorsports Ranch (both in the Dallas/Ft Worth area), and Talladega (AL). Oak Hill (TX) might be within 8 hours from Ft Smith. We have some great roads to ride on here in Arkansas, but no really local tracks. It's a shame because I ride so conservatively (like a sissy) on the street that my first couple of sessions at trackdays are spent getting myself up to my normal track pace. Chango

Any idea how much the track-time is at Hallett? Can you get on w/ or without a track-day organization?

Here's the link to the Hallett website: http://www.hallettracing.net/ Last year it was $80 for a Friday or Monday, and $100 for a Sat or Sun. If it's your first time at Hallet it will also cost an additional $20 for their Rider Training Program, unless you are a licensed racer. The price may go up a smidge next year, but we won't know until they update the website for 2006. Barber is $200/day

There is no open session trackdays there that I'm aware of. Oakhill Raceway in Henderson, TX is open session for $80 per day. You have to have a race license and at least 2 riders there since somebody has to call the ambulance if you go down hard enough. If you can go fast on Oakhill, you can go fast anywhere.

Suppose to be 70+ degrees Monday (26th) so me a 2 friends called and got Oakhill Raceway for the day. How cool is that only 3 people on a track with open sessions

where you from in Ark. again poacher? anyhow, i grew up in Rogers and just got back from visiting family there over the break. I put about 700miles on with 3 days riding. So you can guess how many times I hit the twisties. Anyhow, i've been to Hallett but I'm now currently in San Antonio. I'll be moving to OKC, OK in March. I plan on once again being at Hallett, MSR Cresson (which is only 3.5hrs away from OKC, OK) - and of coarse once again destroying the twisties in NW Arkansas every weekend I get :) anyhow, look for a black telefonica out there sometime.

I live in Ft Smith. So anytime you get ready to ride NW Arkansas, Just let me know and I'll be there. Also planning on going to Hallet this spring. Never been on a track before so it should be alot of fun.

u planning on taking your 20th ann. bike up there ?!?! but just for caution, don't be timid no matter how fast you are on the street, to go ahead and jump in with lvl 1 in the beginning. From there you can go up as you start to feel comfortable and get used to the track experience.

May 29-30 this year (I think). I'm planning on attending this school. I have some friends from all over the region who are planning on going. For many of them it will be their first trackday. It will be my first at Hallett. It's a whole hell of a lot more expensive than a regular Motorcycle Lapping Day, but I reckon it's also worth a whole hell of a lot more than just riding around in circles trying to find your way around an unfamilar track.

Yeah that is the only bike I have. I can't afford 2 bikes. So its either that or pedal my ass around it.

They can give you pointers and help you out. Your not just thrown on the track and told "have at it". I personally would do a lvl 1 event if its my first time out, then after a couple track days sign up for an expensive school if I think its for me. Reason being, I can understand more of what they are saying, and I can have more intelligent questions reguarding racing/aggressive street riding. If its my first time in a track setting you might be catching yourself asking questions about what is an apex or what is a line.

Yeah that is the only bike I have. I can't afford 2 bikes. So its either that or pedal my ass around it. well, not many of us can afford two bikes - but as I'm still paying on the Helo ride from the last time I was at Hallett - taking your pretty bike or a bike thats a special design - isn't a good idea. I was on a 600 telefonica and had to sell it afterwards from a highside. But 5 trackdays at TWS this summer and coming this spring again in Hallett, I think I've learned a few things and hopefully I won't make the same mistake this time. all I'm saying is, take it easy. If you start really doing TD's - I'd look into some junk plastics or a set of god father race plastics.

That’s what I'm going to do. Or well planning on doing, is buying race plastics for it when I take it up there. I don’t want to fuck this bike up. I think I would have to kill myself if I did. I'm just going to take it easy. Just want to get on a track and ride a little harder than I do on the street, so I don't have to worry about cops, or other traffic on the roadway. Plus I figure it s a great way to meet people. Seems like most of the guys around here with street bikes have a hard time getting to know new people unless you out run them, or kick someone they knows ass. I had a good friend that I use to ride with all the time but he hung the helmet up. It was one sad day. He had a 05 1000 and said that he had to sell it or he was going to kill himself. I didn't think he ever would. Then one night he came to my house and gave me his helmet. It was FUCKING sad. Like losing a friend ya know. So now there is really no one that I know up here. I can't get out that much to meet new people because of work and family. At least at the track my family can go too. Man I started rambling.

well, i'd probably kill my self especially on a 1k. its just to much raw untammed power. I'm glad he decided to stop if he really thought it would happen. Well I know there is a ton of riders in Ft. Smith. I know there is also a ton of riders there in NW Arkansas as well. But what do they like to do is the thing.. You sound like me. I hate cruising, bike nights, casual rides around town. All I think about when I'm doing that is how I'm wasting my tire tread. True, start doing track days and you'll get to meet some kewl people who are more interested in the things that you do as well. I will say though beware. You could end up selling your pretty plastics and dedicating that bike totally to the track. its seriously that bad.

Naw That is why I'm going to start working weekends so I can buy the plastics and stuff. I also ahve to get Pants, and Boots. Right now I just ride in a Rocket Jacket lace up Steel Toe Docs, Helmet and gloves. Just haven't had the spare money for much else. I'm going to go into the parts buisness, with my father in law. He buys like used core parts, starters alternators, stuff like that. He buys at scrap price, like 1 or 2 dollars a part. Then turns around and sells them to AC Delco, Rayloc, places like that for core price. Its like 300% profit or more per part. I'm hoping it goes well. Damn I'm looking forward to that track day now. I had kinda settled down about it, now I'm gettin all wound up again.. Thanks ALOT!! LOL

Gimpsta - I totally agree with you about doing some novice level trackdays first. That's exactly where I started. It'll be my first day at Hallett, but I've ridden at Barber enough times that I'm quite comfortable in the Intermediate class. But that's a track I sort of know now. If the STAR school was offered at Barber I would prefer to do it there. Of course you're right about them not letting you ride around blind. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I originally posted. *DUH* I also know that at Hallett the first time you go you have to attend the class they have, with instructors and all. *DUH* Maybe next time I'll remember to remove my head from the dark, stinky place I've been keeping it and THEN post...

na, dude no worries chango - I kind of read your into your post and saw both where you coming from and basically what you meant. I do look forward to meeting you guys at Hallett though. I'm a bit timid to make it out there. Like I said, it was the first place I did a track day and I had a NASTY highside. (like broken collar bone, and helo flight) I would love to hit Barber and some of those other known tracks. I'm kind of bored of the same ole thing here at TWS. its a great track, but you need to change it up from time to time :)

Guys Im from Oklahoma and Hallet is not far from where I live, it is a great track. There are several several guys that I ride with that go to the track days. Everyone is cool at Hallet and like you guys said they have several coaches that will help you with what ever you need. As for the if you go down thing, everyone from here is friendly and will more than go out of there way to help another rider. We also ride to Arkansas several times a year. If you guys have any questions about Hallet just let me know. We usually have a good turn out from the Oklahoma City guys and the Tulsa guys. They also fill up all the classes everytime, so you might want to email then ahead of time.

where in arkansas do you ride? I grew up in the NW region, and I just got back from visiting over Christmas. I think i put about 600 miles on the bike there. I was only able to even ride maybe 2 times, with a 3rd time just cruising around. so you can bet when I was able to get out, i put some miles on

Well, I have officially signed up and even paid for the Jason Pridmore STAR school at Hallett on 29-30 May. Yippee! Hopefully I'll be able to get over there at least once for a trackday before doing the school so I'll know which way the track goes before I get there. Chango 2002 Schwinn Mesa

Ya, they run the track forwards and backwards depending on if they feel its time to switch it up. They will email you ahead of time and let you know which way they plan on running it that day.

Chango Oak hill track is about 3 to 4 hours from houston. outside of lufkin texas in Henderson texas. This track is killer I loved it.. Great elevation incline and drops great banking and flat corners. Very tight technical track. You can hit it up on some weekends for 75 bucks a day Texas world is about 1 hour from houston on Hiway 6 right near Brian college station. TWS is a great track as well ... A faster paced track. depending on what orginization you go with you can get track time here for anywhere from 100 to 160 bucks. Motorsports ranch I believe is about 45 mins or so out side of houston I believe off of Hiway 288. I will be hitting this one in febuary will post up how it is. I have a buddy that hit it with John Hayner and he said the track is as smooth as a babys ass.. Same as TWS you can get track time here for anywhere from 100 to 160 bucks.

well do note: oak hill can only be ran with a CMRA license in hand. its not a track that normal track days are held on, and its quite a different track I hear. yes TWS is very smooth, and i've great things about MSR Houston. I've had a few friends already go over it with me and I'd LOVE to get to it in the near future. Nice post jake
